But, it is awesome…and it is in excellent shape (other than the physical wear from being over 30 years old).

I PERSOANLLY opened it up and cleaned and adjusted each and every contact inside so that there are no keys that have issues upon being pressed. (often, over the years, the contacts get dirty or bent, which impairs the touch sensitivity.

Rest assured, every key works perfectly and the inside is in excellent condition.

If you are not put off by the scratches and scuffs, you will be getting one of the best DX7’s around.

The Grey Matter E! expansion (which I photographed for you) is what sets this instrument apart from others.

So all the keys work and I went through the presets and all of them worked. The backlight for the display isn’t working. I don’t know how to use the functions. The volume knob works the pitch and the modulation work as well. I think it may need an internal battery but I’m not sure. I’m selling this working for parts or repair due to the light and me not being able to test all the functions properly besides the keys. I don’t want to hide anything but I want you to know that it does play nice and sound good. I took a close up of the chunk that’s out of the back corner. Other than that it’s in fairly nice condition. A little bit of tape residue here and there. The case is solid but the interior padding isn’t super protective so I’m going to add some extra protection when I ship it so it doesn’t move. It will get to you safely. B+ cosmetic condition.

Some wear from use over the years, but nothing major on the top case.

One palm sized dent on the bottom cover fr the previous owner trying to take the cover off without removing all screws. Still sits flush and this doesn’t affect any functions of the keyboard.

One screw missing from the bottom cover. Plastic threads for screw broke off. Will be included with sale to be reglued in.

Tact switches do all work, but “enter” & a couple of others need a solid press to work. Could just need cleaning, could need replacing. Will possibly attempt to replace faulty tact switches before sale.

Missing (1) plastic slider cap for data entry slider.

Backlight on display non functioning. Display still legible. Planned on upgrading to modern replacement instead of changing backlight.

All keys have been removed and keybed has been throughly cleaned and re-lubed. All keys function as they should and a couple of keys have been replaced due to faulty plastic clips.

Floppy drive has been cleaned with a new belt installed. It is fully functional now.

Internal Battery original but fully functional.

Includes original sound banks along with 64 updated sound banks with vintage Analog type sounds.

“This is a Yamaha DX7 digital programmable FM synthesizer from the mid-1980s with memory cartridges in working condition.

This listing includes the read-only memory cartridges numbered 3 and 4, which contain the “master group”, “keyboard and plucked group”, “orchestral and percussive group”, and the “complex & effects group. These cartridges are tested with this synth and work.

This listing also includes a read-write memory cartridge for you to store your own DX7 patches. This is also tested and works.

The internal memory works too and includes the default set of sounds. However, the internal battery is low and needs to be replaced. If this internal battery dies, you will need to reprogram the internal memory, which can be done using free software like SysEx Librarian and the original soundbanks available from Bobby Blues website. Search the web for “Yamaha DX7 factory reset | Load preset sounds sysex” for instructions. If you can program this synth, you can easily learn how to reprogram the internal memory.

The wheels, buttons, and keys work fine. All the inputs and outputs work: headphones, main output, sustain pedal, MIDI, etc.

“vintage yamaha dx7- the keyboard is clean with standard wear. when turned on the screen says ram corrupted. the internal sounds are zero. if turned on holding down #16 & #32 simultaneously the cartridges will play. I’m told the sounds have to be re-installed and the synth is a half step below C. There is a way to tune it but I don’t know a thing about the keyboard. I’m selling it exactly as photographed. No other parts, no cartridges. Consider the synth in ‘not working’ condition. It may be an easy fix for someone who has dealt with these before. I borrowed a couple of cartridges and the instruments sounded great through an amp. I bought it untested about 10 years ago thinking it was in working condition because it looks great, very clean.
