Everything seems to be working but it really needs a service as there are lots of crackles and noise from the pots, sliders and keys, but nothing a decent service and some cleaning under the bonnet won’t fix. Lots of paint flaking and it’s not in the best cosmetic condition, but up until a few years ago, it was used regularly in the studio and live and never failed me! It’s been in storage since, and upon taking it out, it needs someone to love it like it should be! “Roland sh 09 Vintage Analog Synth – Needs servicing on 2 faders – Sh-09 Synthesizer monophonic

Sounds great, especially for bass, but there are a couple of issues.

1) As far as I can tell, the Resonance fader needs a clean as it doesn’t appear to be making proper contact as it’s sounding crackly/scratchy. By clean I mean, desoldered from the board, taken apart and cleaned/lubricated using the right products.

I don’t feel confident or have the expertise to desolder and clean the resonance fader to this degree. I have sprayed a little Servisol super 10 in the fader and tried to clean with cotton buds and it has improved the sound but not enough where it has resolved the problem.

2) VCF fader on the bender not working.

After using some Servisol here too, I noticed that it some contact started to occur but it has then gone. I think the same treatment as above would be needed to resolve the issue.

3) 3 fader caps are missing. You can find replacements on eBay.

4) Power plug with a chip in it (refer to photo). Never had any concerns about this

Apart from the above, everything is working fine. I’m really unsure as to how the resonance fader has got to that state as I have taken care of this synth. Perhaps the fact that is 40 years old, there’s bound to be some wear and tear eventually.

I’m sure that if this is in the hands of someone who knows what they’re doing, it would be a simple fix but might take some time.”

“Roland SH-09 Bassline Synthesiser 1981. In fair condition as shown in photos has few rust spots. Fully working, sounds lush, but has an issue which does not affect normal use. When using the “PHONES” output audio from VCO seems to drone but SUB OSC decays as it should. The main mono “OUTPUT” is absolutely fine. This suggests a problem with the internal heaphone amplifier circuit, a simple DIY repair. There is also one fader cap missing. Collection from SE5 London. Immediate payment required to buy it now. “Here we have a very well used Roland SH09, the synth works but needs a servicing, it has a lot of surface rust and is missing a knob from a slider as in the photo’s. It is what is sold as seen, it works.

“Used condition. This is not my keyboard I am selling it for a friend and was told that it does work, but one of the black keys is broken and pushed in the upper position as shown in one of the last pictures and does not work.Also three of the white keys close to that one looks like they had something taped to them at one time or another and some of the sticky stuff does not come off. And one other white key was broken but looks like it has been glued together. Some of the slides seem a little stiff but all do work.”

“Classic synth from Roland golden era.

Deep sub bass is unrivalled in my opinion – similar to a 101 but a richer sound.

Fully working with just one quirk – the pitch bend and filter amount sliders which dictates the amount of range the bender will control (not main filter – the ones above the bender stick) actually just bend the pitch or close the filter when raised..

Never bothered me as I control it via cv and trigger.

Easy fix if you wanted… and no impact on the sound or main controls on the synth.”

“Fantastic little workhorse synth, capable of deep bass (that some say is superior to its sister, the SH101) and other great lead sounds and effects.

Showing its (38 year old) age in some places, with some chipped paint, a little rust and a couple of scratches, but has had a recent service and in full working order.

No scratchy pots, all rear connectors work perfectly and the synth engine as good as its ever been.”

“Awesome Roland vintage analog monosynth from Roland’s classic SH-series based on a single VCO oscillator. Essentially this is a stripped-down version of the SH-2.

Excellent condition for its age, both cosmetically and operationally. Sounds amazing. Great for deep basslines.

“Well-loved Roland Sh-09 for sale. Professionally serviced when I purchased it a couple of years ago and it’s been played relatively little at home and has been and packed away for the last year.

As you can see from the photos it’s missing two slider caps, has some wearing on the panel, and has had key repairs done to it prior to me purchasing it. On the plus side, at 35+ years old, it works beautifully. It sounds like magic and plays like a dream. This is surprisingly versatile for a monosynth and you can feed the output back into it for some really screaming leads and bass. ”

Likely all due to needing some deoxit and cleaning. All functions appear to be working as they should except S/H section of LFO. “In decent condition, considering it’s age – keys are all fine, no sticking knobs, all sliders work fine, no excess noise – only marks are to the casing, which is showing some signs of rust – see pictures – but it’s kind of cool.

Also had some very small burn marks on three of the keys (see pics) – they’ve been there since I bought it in 2001, I guess from it’s earlier owner who probably rested cigarettes (or whetever?!) on there during gigs! haha. The eighties eh… ?
