Moog MG-1

“Vintage Moog Realistic 1981 Concertmate MG-1 synthesizer – 1 owner since 1980s. My father acquired this Moog new in the mid-1980s in MI from a fellow college professor who “was into gadgets” and he gifted it to me. It’s been stored since 1990 and turned right on after 30+years. This vintage Moog is made to create and she deserves to be appreciated and played. She’s over 40yrs old and in good used condition. A few knob covers are missing but knobs are still functional. Replacement knob covers are available online. Serial # is a palindrome. I’m starting listing at $849, given good used vintage condition and single owner since 1980s. Can meet in Sanford ME area or ship at buyer’s expense and risk.” Click here to visit listing on eBay

Moog MG-1

” Realistic Concertmate MG-1 Moog Synthesizer sold by Radio Shack in the early 80’s for $500,
endorsed and used by Elton John and many other artists.
I have had this since it was new, kept in storage most of it’s life.
It does work, I have tested it, cleaned it, but it could use a little more deoxit on some of the switches
and a little lubrication on the slides, but it does work.”

Moog MG-1

“Classic “Realistic” Moog in really nice condition.

If you’re looking at this listing you probably know exactly what this is – a proper USA made Moog, designed and re-badged for sale in Tandy / Radio Shack stores. These are from the same era as the Rogue, and have some similarities but also lots of cool unique features including a basic polyphonic section, oscillator sync and ring modulator. In my opinion the MG1 is superior to the Rogue, which makes it a rare bargain in the world of vintage synthesizers.

It’s a cool synth which excels at weird noises, drones, and evolving textures. I bought this a while ago having searched for a decent one for ages but these days it’s not getting the use it deserves.

I’ve freshly serviced this ready for sale – I had to remove all the notorious black goo from above the controls and switches, which luckily had not done any serious damage. I was able to clean up the original sliders and switches and it now works without fault, with all the controls operating reliably and without pops or crackles.

Cosmetic condition is very good, all knobs are intact, and there’s no significant damage to anything. Unfortunately there is a weird stain on the white keys (visible in photo) as well some light scratches to some of the black keys. Still a very smart-looking instrument over all.” Click here to visit listing on eBay

Moog MG-1

“Moog MG1 Realistic Synthesizer By Moog Music 1980 USA Vintage Analogue Synth

The MG-1 was built by Moog for Radio Shack as part of their attempt to corner the keyboard market.

Very similar to the Moog Rogue that later emerged from Moog the MG1 has two oscillators, white noise, sync and a Moog ladder filter. It also has a ‘bell tone’ which is none tech speak for a ring modulator. The synth differs from the Rogue as it has a polyphony section. This section allowed you to play chords as well as adding a third sound source to your synth. The MG1 is a very flexible little synth!

This one is in good cosmetic condition and plays well, it has been cleaned and all functions work however it has its issues. I’m selling as spares and repairs as the ‘tone source’ switch may need replacing as it occasionally cuts out and needs encouragement. There is some corrosion to the jack sockets and RCA outputs, the RCA outputs cut out and will need replacing. I have always used the 1/4” headphone socket at the front to amplify it. I’ve also not used the interface ports – presumably CV type interfaces.

There is a mains lead included. This synth unlike the Rogue has a built in transformer. I must say this is quite noisy and there is background mains hum from it.

All keys, sliders, knobs, switches and single led work. The sliders are clean but not smooth to operate like modern ones. The dreaded black foam has been replaced at some point.

This is a 40 year old synth and quite delicate, they don’t travel well so pickup is definitely recommended. A pro service is also recommended- this is not a modern brand new Moog and so please ensure you read the description thoroughly before you bid. I can post in the UK but this is at buyer’s risk. It’s a great little synth with the signature Moog sound but it’s old and can be quirky and needs a service. ”

This synth is in working condition, Most of the functions seem to work but has some scratchy pot and slides which make it not sound so good. All of the keys sound when pressed. “Realistic mg1 synthesizer. Recently serviced. Back phono audio outputs not working. All features of the synth work over headphones. Sounds really good. Another issue is the sliders are a bit stiff, however they all work. And the final issue is there is some humming from the transformer inside, the hum is physical and doesn’t affect the sound.

I use a cirklon2 sequencer and I couldn’t get it to trigger this synth well even by setting the sequencer to s trigger mode. I think it’s something to do with the design of the envelopes, so it’s not a fault. Playing by keyboard works fine.”

“1981 Moog Realistic MG-1 (Fully Functioning with Full Scan of Original Manual).

Unit was taken apart to determine if it needed cleaning. I ended up getting it put back together nearly the same way it was taken apart. I believe I put a screw in the wrong place somewhere. I feel bad tinkering with this thing since I have no idea what I’m doing. By a miracle, when I got it back together again, it was still fully functioning. It deserves a better home than I have given it.

Edit: One slider top is missing and one is cracked in half.” Click here to visit listing on eBay

Moog MG-1

“Im sure you know what this is if you’re looking but here goes.

Here we have my vintage(?) 1981 Realistic Concertmate MG1 its and analog mono synth, with a few other interesting features. It was sold by radio shack and Tandy here in the uk back in the day as I recall, but it was made by Moog Music.

I love this thing, it sounds great and does what you would expect of old mono synths and a little bit more quirky stuff as well, its got a polyphonic organ type tone as well as a bell tone which is kind of like a ring mod you can mix in the amount of each you want on the faders. you can even set the mode for it to drone on on its own continuously…..

Its in good working condition and has been in the studio and never gigged, it was rigged up to a cv & gate converter midi interface and performed admirably.

This is a real reluctant sale as time aren’t good, I would love to keep this one but its being sacrificed to keep some of the other stuff.

I’ve also got the manual which in itself is a great early 80’s read.

Its just the mono synth for sale not the synth its sitting on…

I’ve not seen a working one of these about for a while.”

“In good working condition.

I bought this years ago and it looks like the previous owner has added a mod to the vcos. It doesn’t seem to do much apart from affect the pulse width slightly.

The internal transformer has been replaced due to the original one buzzing quite loudly. Some sockets have been removed from the rear, but the output socket is working fine.

Ideal project for someone wanting to restore/modify further as these things can be turned into analog monsters.

Otherwise, it seems in good condition.” Click here to visit listing on eBay

Book is in good condition, no tears or rips but there are some slight folds, etc. See pictures. ”

“Here we have the very last of these little monsters in our inventory. Cosmetically it looks great, however the interior was found to have sustained some rusting on the bottom of the frame and case pan from an unknown cause.
The rust has been removed and the unit has been cleaned up a bit but could really use a thorough going over throughout by a more expert hand.
All knobs and sliders respond sonically, however it has the following issues:

There are 4 keys that fail to make sound (labeled w/ post-it notes). The other keys appear to work normally.
One of the copper contacts has been bypassed with a small wire at some point in it’s history, apparently from a previous key failure.
The power cord has a break in the outer insulation but the inner cables are intact and the machine powers up and still works even in it’s current condition.

I believe the unit is fully restorable for someone who knows a little more about these things or someone who just wants to tinker with it and has the time and effort. Or even use it as a fully equipped parts supply if you have another one.
So, due to the condition we are offering this little Moog at a very discounted opening bid. Sold as-is to the highest bidder.” Click here to visit listing on eBay

Moog MG-1

“Realistic Concertmate MG-1 Synthesizer (Moog).

You are bidding on a Realistic Concertmate MG-1 synthesizer. These were built by Moog for radioshack and were sold in the early 80s.

This one is most certainly not 100% condition as it has lost a few slider covers and the sliders themselves will crackle a little, but this synth can still produce some incredible sounds that you won’t hear anywhere else.

There are pitch and trigger inputs on the back which work as cv and gate (these have been tested and work fine).
It has phono inputs (not through the filter) and outputs and a headphone output on the front.
Internal power supply and supplied with appropriate kettle lead.

This would be great as a refurbishment project or as I have done for many years – sequenced and sampled the synth for some incredible sound loops. The sound is massively unstable (in a good way) and just sounds vintage and alive in a way that modern analog synths just don’t quite capture.

Refurbished models go for between £500-800 at the moment, but to be clear this unit with all the various crackles and missing pots is not 100% perfect and the starting price reflects this. Please take into account the description and watch the video before bidding.

I want you to be aware of the nature of this quirky and at times noisy synth. I also want you to be aware that this is an oportunity to get an absolutely mad sounding synth that doesn’t quite sound like anything else.” Click here to visit listing on eBay

“Selling my vintage 1980 Moog/RadioShack MG-1 Concertmate analog synthesizer; s/n 2463. Original owner, bought it new in 1981 in Temple Hills, MD when I thought that I had musical talent (I don’t) so was just me noodling around on it for all those years. Has been kept on display in my office for the last 20 years; non-smoking controlled environment. As far as I can tell, every knob/switch/slider functions as designed and sounds good, no crackles or pops from the knobs and sliders, which move smoothly. All keys clean, smooth and responsive (I’m not a musician, so I don’t know how to tell if there is a problem with the response other than “press a key, sound comes out”). Don’t see any evidence of major foam deterioration. Cosmetically excellent, no blemishes, dings, all knobs and sliders present. As this synth is 41 years old, it would certainly benefit from a professional cleaning and tuning however it is playable right out of the box.

Yes, I have the original box but it is in very poor condition having been stored in less than ideal conditions (see photos); fortunately the synth wasn’t in it during that time. I do have the foam blocks as well. The synth will be sent in this box with a much sturdier box around it. Original manual plus addendum included as well.” Click here to visit listing on eBay
