Yamaha TX81Z Project Machine

“It will power up ok. But then continues to drop out after that. Drops out that much , it’s unusable until fixed.

I’ve not attempted to fix it. It’s been on the to do list. Decided just to sell it now.

It’s seen a few racks in it’s time , scratches , dinks , etc. It wasn’t really that nice a looking synth anyway !!! Other than that , everything else works. I only got it for the Lately Bass sound. And it does sound impressive. I noticed there is a couple of other famous sounds in there . But the Lately Bass stands out from the rest. The rest of the sounds….. less said the better. ” Click here to visit listing on eBay

“YAMAHA TX81Z FM TONE GENERATOR SYNTHESIZER RACK MOUNT.

Works great and it’s in very good condition for its age! Fully tested and it has lots of awesome sounds and settings, making it great for recording! Has some small scratches/signs of wear but these are just cosmetic and don’t affect anything. These are hard to find and especially in this good of condition so don’t pass it up! I’ll package it very well so it doesn’t get damaged in shipping. ” Click here to visit listing on eBay

“Yamaha TX81Z – Classic FM Synthesizer – Rack Mount

Cosmetic Condition: Good – Please see photos. There are a few scuff marks and one small ding in rear corner of the case. Rack ears are slightly bent (not badly). Most of the wear looks to be from road use (not neglect).

Note: This unit powers up and all buttons and displays function correctly, but no further (audio) testing has been done. This is being sold in AS-IS condition, with no guarantee on its functionality or audio quality/fidelity. ” Click here to visit listing on eBay

” Here is a Yamaha TX81Z FM Tone Generator. I tested this with drum sounds from a Roland SC-33 to the MIDI input and played with the different tones. Everything seems to work fine. It does have a few cosmetic issues with scuffs and scratches and glue residue on the bottom from thin foam being glued down. It has lived a good life and it shows but it can still go on. A stereo headphone jack was added on the back, it is wired in parallel with the data entry buttons via the ribbon cable from the front board to the motherboard. They must have used it for a remote function but not sure why. It does not interfere with the function of the data entry buttons. I will also include a large blueprint of the electronic drawing. A manual for this can be found online. ” Click here to visit listing on eBay

“The Yamaha TX81Z is a rack version of Yamaha DX11 and rack-mounted frequency modulation music synthesizer, which was released in 1987. Unlike previous FM synthesizers of the era, the TX81Z was the first to offer a range of oscillator waveforms other than just sine waves, conferring the new timbres of some of its patches when compared to older, sine-only FM synths. The TX81Z has developed a famous reputation, largely based on some of its preset bass sounds. A keyboard version with more onboard editing abilities was released the following year as the Yamaha DX11.” Click here to visit listing on eBay

“Up for auction we have a vintage Yamaha TX 81z rackmount fm synthesizer in working condition. I’ve made tracks with this piece in the past but have not used it in a few years. This is one of the most versatile and useful synthesizers I’ve ever owned, incredible value. ” Click here to visit listing on eBay

“Got a vintage Yamaha TX81Z FM Tone Generator (their words, not mine) here. Better known as an FM synthesizer. Considered by some as a “poor man’s DX7″, it had 4 operators, where the DX7 had 6.

BUT – the TX81Z had 7 more, somewhat more complex waveforms available, whereas the DX7 only had sine waves. It was also a contemporary of the DX21/27/100 series, and could share patches with them (though not all parameters translate between them).

This unit sounds great, and all controls work as they should. There are some dings and scrapes, and the right rack ear is bent somehow (see the pics). The original manual is included, lovingly annotated by the original owner (not me).” Click here to visit listing on eBay
