Korg PS-3100

“This Vintage Korg PS3100 PS-3100 Patchable Fully Polyphonic Synthesizer looks like it just came fresh off of the assembly line in Tokyo.

This is the one that you’ve been waiting for. Collector/museum curator alert.

This synth came to us in ‘closet classic’ condition, with hardly any wear from a private collector. We gave it a gentle cleaning, calibration and tuning, and we were off to the races. All original. Fully polyphonic… and patchable. Sounds… stunning.” Click here to visit listing on eBay

Korg PS-3100

“Korg PS3100 super rare vintage analogue polysynth

Had a full service, including recapped power supply, all new 1/4″ jacks, calibration, etc.

As far as I can tell it all works, though there are many sockets on there I have no idea what they do.

Lower octave keys occasionally crackle.

But other than that amazing condition – very rare – and sounds truly amazing.”

Korg PS-3100 Project Machine

“I bought this rare synth many years ago. When I purchased it, I was told the main problem was namely that the notes would sometimes hang up (stay on), possibly the envelope generator circuitry. My plan was to get it all back to spec, restore it and use it.
Well… that never happened… So it sat in my studio for years, waiting to be restored…
I really did want to get this beast back up to snuff, but I lost interest and I’m no longer up for the challenge… Are you?
Needless to say I haven’t powered it up for years, and I think it best to give the person that buys it, the honors (filter caps dry out, etc.). The last time I did fire it up (again, many years ago), all of the modules were operational, i.e.., signal generators, filters, etc. All of the keys, knobs, switches, LED indicators were solid and were all functional as well. The laminated wood case has many chips and dings, but is in decent condition.
This synthesizer needs a chance to be restored to all its glory so if you think you can do what I couldn’t, good luck. It deserves a chance, and some sweat equity will pay off down the road, or you can pay a tech to repair…
I am selling it as-is with no returns. What you see is what you’ll get. ” Click here to visit listing on eBay

Korg PS-3100

ps3100

Being 39 years old, all Korg PS-3100s will have problems if they haven’t been serviced in many years (EVEN if they were never gigged and kept in a smoke-free studio).

THIS unit has been serviced and REFURBISHED by a professional synthesizer and electronics engineer with decades of experience.

The POWER SUPPLY going is a common problem with synths of this era. This one is now in good shape for years to come.

However, most important is THIS (the reason for the REFURBISH):

The plastic connectors that seat the voice cards into the backplane on this type of machine have become brittle and prone to breakage. They WILL break if they haven’t been replaced, especially when shipped. When I first bought this unit that’s exactly what happened: it worked fine for the seller, and the voice card connectors broke during shipping because of the brittleness with age. So even if another PS-3100 is said to be in great condition — unless the backplane has been rebuilt it will almost certainly fail during transit or soon after.

Replacing the connects requires sourcing new compatible connectors (the old ones are long out of production) means finding a technician familiar with not just analog gear, but wire-wrapping (because that’s how the harness is wired). Painstaking hours are then spent, at GREAT COST, to rebuild the backplane. If this hasn’t already been done, you will end up with a busted synth — probably as soon as it is next jostled (like during shipping when you buy it).

THE BACKPLANE ON THIS UNIT HAS BEEN REFURBISHED.

That is why, if you want to purchase a PS-3100 to PLAY it, you should buy this unit. (That is also why it is more expensive than the few others kicking around for sale.)” Click here to visit listing on eBay

Korg PS3100 is the first of the PS3xxx polyphonic analog synths that made a splash in the analog music world in the 70s. ps3200 “This synth was in our studio for a couple years, before which it was massively serviced. It stores 32 presets instead of the usual 16. We had it hooked up to a Korg SQ-10 sequencer, which was amazing for arpeggiation type effects.

I owned a PS-3300 for about 10 years, and I’m sad to say the PS-3200 actually sounds thicker and beefier. It’s the only synth from the PS series that has two oscillators going into the filter, and if you still want thicker there’s a chorus on the output!” Click here to visit listing on eBay

Korg PS-3100 with Kenton MIDI

ps3100 “Monster synth with Kenton midi kit fitted!!!

Say what??!

Yes your heard me

Had it for about 6 years always been 100% reliable – to be completely straight up about the condition there are a few grazes on the woodwork but it’s 40 years old now

Also when you play it on the keyboard then two of the notes on there do a little double trigger thing but I guess that’s the contact needs a clean – pretty simple job and I know a guy who could look at that if it bothers you and he would probably charge about 60-80 pounds

I use the midi in on the back mostly so it never bothered me enough to fix it so it’s really not a huge issue at all you still have all the power and awesomeness of the sound in perfect order

Btw the triple resonant filter is the most unique feature to me which you can control with cv and gate to get brilliant sequence stuff with rhythmic chords for example ” Click here to visit listing on eBay
