Kawai SX-240

“Up for sale is this amazing Kawai SX-240 , an eight voice, fully programmable polyphonic analog synthesizer released in 1984, as you can see in the last picture I have two of them so I need to make room for new ones coming, the synth works perfectly, got fully serviced last week, loaded with the original factory data and a brand new coin battery so you don’t need to worry about for the next 3 or 4 years.

The synth is in great condition overall for it’s age but has minimal cosmetic details according to it’s age, it has some little details on the wooden side panels and some scratches on the top metal panel here an there, pictures shows the cosmetic state of the synth, missing one of the plastic hooks on the back used to wrap the power cord.” Click here to visit listing on eBay

“Tested and working good!
Less than 950 SX-240 were made total and even fewer still exist today! Rare!
I acquired this synth many years ago, it was in working condition but had issues that are now fixed + customized!
When I got it, it had a bad voice, the end cheeks were chipped, cracked and ugly, and there was a small amount
of rust at the very edges of the control panel. The rust was lightly cleaned and then covered with black satin tape
strips, i am not an expert here and did not want to make things work with the pair or graphics.
The ENTIRE voice board has been replaced with a BRAND NEW ONE! (NOS directly from Kawai US)!
Has TAUNTEK OS installed which gives it full MIDI capabilities including external CC control change and individual MIDI channel selection!
This means you can hook up a knob box or computer and control filters, envelopes, etc! It also allows for separate MIDI channels when using split mode!
The end cheeks have been replaced with REAL WALNUT end cheeks! (So much nicer!)
All they keys have been replaced with Gold and Silver 3D printed keys, buttons too! Even has a custom RED memory write button!
The Silver vs Gold keys denote where the “split” is when you pay in split mode. This makes it easy to see the split while
playing in split mode, even under live stage lighting conditions thus minimizing the mistake of playing a bad note by playing past the split point!

Decent used condition – See photos

Teisco SX-240

“This an 8 Voices/2DCO+ 1Sub OSC with a VCF section controlled by a VCF envelope, VCA section control by a VCA envelope.
A lot of modulation possibilities and and amazing ensemble effect.
This underated and underestimated synthesizer could be compared to a Jupiter 8 mixed with a Juno 6 in terms of sound possibilities.

This synthesizer is in excellent condition, almost flawless, it has the original Tape factory presets so that you can load the original sounds again.
It also has the Original soft case.

The Teisco SX-240 is fully working, have been cleaned and refurbished.
All the knobs have been cleaned and lubricated.
The keyboard has been cleaned, every keys are working correctly without double triggering.
The back-up battery has been changed before any damage or leak happens.” Click here to visit listing on eBay

“Very nice Kawai SX-240 analog synthesizer available here. This synth has been tested and works well! All functions and buttons seem to work as they should. Please ask any questions you may have. Any overcharge in shipping will be refunded. Will be shipped insured as well. Also it comes with an older soft travel bag that is not pictured. Local pickup is encouraged, or I can deliver within 100 miles for a small charge.” Click here to visit listing on eBay

Kawai SX-240

“Rare Kawai SX-240 analog synthesizer up for auction! Released in 1984, this 8-voice polyphonic synth has 2 analog DCOs and one sub-osc. Stackable in poly-8, poly4 or mono mode for a really big sound. Great for leads, bass, brass, drones, pads and strings, plus add on-board ‘ensemble’ (chorus) or ‘brass’ (ring mod) effects.

I’ve owned this unit since the mid-1990s, only smoke-free studio use. It is built like a tank- this one is fully functioning, have had zero issues with it. Keys, buttons, knobs, sliders all in perfect working order, MIDI works. The wood-grain sides are in good shape with only a few minor dings/scratches, and the metal casing has only a few minor scratches on the edges, one dent near the rear power supply. ” Click here to visit listing on eBay

” Synth is in good cosmetic and functional shape with some light wear and tear (see pics for details). We tried to test to the best of our knowledge, but understand that we are not a musical instrument shop, so there might be some work to be completed to it to make it fully operational. Powers on and plays through the headphone jack. ” Click here to visit listing on eBay

“Some quick background, this was purchased directly from the original owner who quite literally babied it all of its life. He used it very sparingly, and always kept it covered when not in use. If you look at the pictures you will be amazed at the cosmetic condition of this unit! Other than some tape reside on the back and side panel this unit is basically as close to mint as you will find anywhere!

I’ve cleaned all the contact pads inside the main board, and I’ve also lubed both fader knobs for extended life. Rear jacks were all coated with Deoxit Gold for improved contact and life as well.

I will admit that I am not a Synthesizer expert by any means, but I have a good working knowledge of the functions and how to use them. I hooked up some headphones to this unit and played around with it for a bit, everything seems to be in good working order, didn’t notice any issues electronically. I’m not surprised by this because of the immaculate condition it was kept in by the original owner.

One thing I will note when I had the unit opened up is that it appears to have the original battery in it. It is highly recommended on older synthesizers such as this to have the stock batteries replaced as they tend to start leaking and losing efficiency over time. I will leave this up to the next owner. Vintage synthesizers do tend to require some upkeep and any person looking to own one should be aware of this when buying one.

Included with this are the original owner’s manual, and an effects tape. Also including two pedals which were attached to this unit when it was purchased by me.” Click here to visit listing on eBay

“Rare and great sounding 80’s Synth / keyboard from Kawai. I am not a musician and cannot play or properly assess an instrument of this sophistication to a satisfactory level of inspection. Therfore, this keyboard was taken the Yadco Music in Pgh PA., there it was gone over and given the OK. and was properly checked out..It really did sound nice. With that stated, I am selling this As Is, because of my lack of knowledge concerning this unit. The keyboard is in nice shape considering it is over 30yrs old. There are some small cosmetic blemishes that can be seen in the provided photos. The specs for this keyboard can be found online and compared with other keyboards from the time seems to be quite impressive and received some excellent reviews. Please remember you are the expert here. Thank you very much for looking.” Click here to visit listing on eBay

Kawai SX-240

sx240” Awesome analog polyphonic synth. Works great! Sounds Great! Handsome as hell too. There are some blemishes (see detail pics) but nothing major. Everything works as it should BUT when pressing the alphabetical bank buttons and the numeric patch buttons, sometimes it takes a certain type of finger-press(circular ). All of them do work. It wasn’t a big issue so i never got around to installing new button contacts but i do have a full set of them that were ordered directly from Kawai. I’m including them (A-F and 1-8 see pics). also, as you can see in the pictures, there is a fader cap missing.” Click here to visit listing on eBay

sx240 “Everything is working as it should and sounding beautiful! Lovely to split / layer the board with a sequenced bass line or sequenced pads or leads and then play along with that live.

Easy lay-out. A dream to create very lush Elka Synthex like soundscapes and patches. Nice also to Clock this with a drum machine. I use an Oberheim DX and a Korg KR-55. I have also clocked and synced it with an EMU Emax 1 ( arpeggiator ) which was insanely cool!” Click here to visit listing on eBay

xs240 “Sounds great. All keys and buttons work. Presets can be saved as desired. This keyboard is in very good shape given its age. See scratches, missing button and missing slider knob in attached photos. Keyboard was purchased a few years ago and has been used sparingly.” Click here to visit listing on eBay

Kawai SX-240 Project Machine

sx240

I purchased this as a restoration project a few years ago, but I haven’t gotten the time to get started on it.

This synthesizer does work, but needs a little TLC. The internals look nice and clean, the battery has been removed to prevent corroding, and the only major blemish on the outside is the missing “VERIFY” button.

I have to power the synth on and off a couple times before it will produce any sound, and when I do, there is a constant background drone.

A battery will need to be installed, and presets will need to be loaded (MP3 of the cassette is available on synthmania.com). I have not tried this yet, but the forums report good luck with loading directly from a computer to the TAPE IN jack. ” Click here to visit listing on eBay

sx240” You won’t come across one in this great of shape every day – only 1000 were made. This one had the original NiCad battery removed, which had not leaked at all, and has been replaced with a Lithium battery. There are very few minor scratches here and there – see the photos. Otherwise cosmetically in great shape and operationally has always been flawless for me. This thing sounds amazing. It has the coveted SSM 2044 VCF, same as the Korg Polysix, among others. It’s got a lot of features that set it apart from being just another Polysix or Juno 6/60 type synth. There’s the possibility to stack voices, split the keyboard, an onboard sequencer (can even use the sequencer in split mode), ring modulator (“brass”), super warm and lush on-board chorus, glissando, MIDI I/O. This is a powerful synth capable of some killer analog warmth. I’m very sad to even consider letting this go.” Click here to visit listing on eBay

sx240 “Hi , For your consideration is the rare synthesizer fully analog by kawai. Its the sx-240 model. Very few have been made, this model works fine without hitch. The synthesizer is very lush and full and the filter is great , curtis cem i believe. It was modified to have the keybed replaced with wood by a carpenter. It is snug and fit and easy to remove if necessary.” Click here to visit listing on eBay
