******** Around 90% of my studio gear has to go ahead of moving into a smaller purpose built space, so 50 or so items to list over the next couple of days, mostly vintage synths, samplers and drum machines, plus a few effects and 500 series modules and more modern items etc. All top notch studio gems and rarities with the emphasis on what sounds good, rather than what costs a fortune. OK, the Prophet 2000. HUGE sounding machine, works great, was serviced in October 2021, invoice included, £160 spent. It has the full original manual file (these can sell for £100 on their own), and has the superb Synthechnics memory expansion board fitted, which is a modern reliable version of the old 2x one, doubles the onboard memory, and was another £100 or so.

UK power lead included, and the original manual is in excellent shape. A few marks and scratches here and there and a bit of old gaffer tape residue on a back corner, but no structural damage, all controls are fine, servicing included the floppy drive but no discs included, you might want to go down the floppy emulator route these days anyway (personally I was always happy with keeping it stock and just firing stuff in and out of the DAW).

Anyway, check Espen Kraft’s video or any other review to see what this thing is capable of adding in a modern studio setting. Literally only letting it go as I have a Mirage I’ve owned almost since new which I’m irrationally attached to, and only one vintage sampling keyboard can stay in my new slimmed down set-up. But it was a close call!

“Rare Sequential Circuits Prophet-5 rev. 2 (with the SSM chips) from the late 1970s / early 1980s – the classic, vintage analog polyphonic synthesizer.

This model is one of the most sought-after vintage analog poly synthesizers on the market, which sounds noticeably better / fatter than the later revisions.

Professionally gone through by tech in February 2020, who replaced power supply and a few components that were not working properly, and brought it back up to full specs. Tested everything, including full synth & voice operation, all buttons / switches / keys , cv/gate and tape save/load, etc. all working perfectly.

The overlay on the left side of the data membrane panel is for gligli 2.0 but will send a manual of the v2022 update that explains all the routing, operation and execution of all the v2022 functions… that said, most of the text on the 2.0 upgrade is still as it is stated. “Prophet 10 dual keyboard. Model 1010. SN 1010-0421. Inherited from a relative who made studio music. This item has extremely low use and zero visible wear. Its exterior is truly ‘as new.’ There is virtually no wear, no nicks, no scratches that we have found. It powers up but we have not used it. I am told this is Rev 1 but I am not a Prophet expert. The SN should confirm for a knowledgable buyer. Includes original case (shown), peddles, cables, mini-cassettes (all pictured) and “Operation Manual” (not pictured).

Casters are removed but are included with their machine screws.

” I have owned and loved this machine since 2015 when I purchased it in a specialist auction. I had Kenton add their midi retrofit to it which works perfectly. I have also had it serviced professionally in 2018.

If you are reading this then I assume you know how good these synths are. The rev 4 is good, but this is the original and there’s no beating that.

The synth is really beautiful looking with no blemishes or marks on the wood. It looks almost brand new. There is a small nick just above the logo, please see pictures. Importantly, there are no scratchy pots and the keyboard plays beautifully. It sounds stunning. Note that, although the digital display looks difficult to read in the photos, I think it just clocks slowly. It looks fine to human eyes!

Like all the earlier models, it does suffer from tuning issues and can take some time to settle down and tune well. It will take some time to warm up and may need to be auto-tuned several times. After it auto-tunes sometimes you still need to manually adjust the tuning pot for it to be spot on. I have also recently noticed that adjusting the cutoff can cause the tuning to go out if you have a lot of resonance dialled in. I spoke to my tech about this recently, and he suggested that it might need the pitch wheel replacing, so please bear in mind that it may need another service. It has also not had much use in the last 3 years hence the sale.”

This is a beautifully preserved vintage Prophet 5 from a collector (me). It’s likely the best Prophet you’ll find available. It’s been in storage for two decades and will need a checkup for calibration etc. I’m including a brand new midi kit for installation from Kenton, which is IMO the best midi kit available. “Synth turns on and lights up, but no sound comes from the output. Sold AS/IS for parts or repair. 2 keys and the wooden sides are missing, all of the knobs are gone, two knob shafts are broken. Dirt, dust, light oxidation, and wear are evident from age and use. Former owners stage name engraved on rear panel.
