Yamaha CS01

‘Up for auction is a Yamaha CS01 Analogue Synthesizer. If you know about these, you will know that this is not just any old mini keyboard, but a true analogue synthesizer in miniature, portable form. As such, these have been used by many famous musicians, including the Dust Brothers, Underworld, OMD, Richard Barbieri and Chick Corea.

It features a volume knob with power on/off switch, twin controls for the breath controller to apply it to either the VCF, or the VCA, or both in any combination (the input socket for the breath controller is situated on the left side of the synth). Note I am also listing a Yamaha BC1 Breath Controller, the correct one for this synth, in a separate auction. There are Pitch Bend and Modulation wheels, and the Modulation can affect either the VCO or the VCF. There is an LFO with Speed control. Next are the VCO controls, with a slider for Glissando (like Portamento, except that it moves in discrete semitone steps), Pitch slider, Feet multiswitch (with 32′, 16′, 8′ and 4’ settings, plus White Noise). Next is the Wave multiswitch, which selects between various waveforms, plus PWM. The PWM Speed slider is next (see note below about this), and that completes the VCO section.

Next is the VCF, with controls for FREQ CUT OFF, EG DEPTH, and a RESONANCE high or low switch. This is followed by an EG DEPTH slider for the VCA, and finally, towards the right end of the panel, are a set of traditional ADSR sliders for envelope control.

The above represent the standard controls of any conventional analogue monosynth, and anyone familiar with Moogs or similar will be immediately at home with this instrument.

This particular unit was bought for use in my personal studio, and has not been used on stage. It was always well looked after, and kept in the soft padded case it will arrive in. As a result, it is in excellent, barely used condition. I have checked it for faults, and everything is working properly, apart from the PWM Speed slider, which has no effect on the sound at all. Other than that, I would rate it at 100 percent. The starting price has been set with this in mind, and with no reserve this will be a bargain for someone.” Click here to visit listing on eBay
