Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 Rev 3.3

“This is the legendary Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 (Rev3.3) analog synthesizer. I am theoriginal owner, bought it brand spanking new in 1981. It originally had one bank of 40 sounds, thena few months later, I got a call from Dave Smith, from Sequential Circuits, askingif I could bring my Prophet 5 in for a “FREE upgrade to rev 3.3”. They would add another 80 patches, (for atotal of 120 sounds), and a MIDI interface. I asked “What’s MIDI?” Heexplained that it was a new communication device they were working on thatwould allow synthesizers to talk to one another. So I said OK, even though I only had 1 synthat the time. Then, almost overnight, there was a plethora of MIDI devices – andI had one of the very first ones, direct from the guy who invented it. So, I bought another Prophet 5 and MIDI’d themtogether for the fattest live sound you could imagine. The Prophet’s unique sounds definitely propelledmy retro-band (Papa Doo Run Run) right up into the eighties.

In the early 80’s you couldn’t hear a song on the radio or see a band on MTVthat didn’t have a Prophet 5. TheProphet 5 defined the sound of the 80’s.

I retired both of my Prophet 5’s from the road to the studioin 1990, and since I only really needed one, I kept the original, and tradedthe other one for a Korg Triton (I should have kept the Prophet). In 2000, I moved on to all digital, and putthe Prophet in its case – there it would sleep for the next 23 years!

Jump ahead to 2023, I have a warehouse full of vintage bandgear, in immaculate shape, and it’s time to say goodbye to some of my oldanalog friends. I immediately got outthe Prophet 5 and fired it up. But alas, after a couple of decades the battery that was keeping the sounds alive wasdead. So I did some research and took themachine to a tech in Oakland, who specializes in Sequential Circuitsinstruments. He not only replaced thebattery, and reloaded all 120 factory sounds, but cleaned, tweaked, andreplaced other aging components, to make my Prophet like new again!

This is a very special instrument, that requires a very special owner. There aren’t many original 40+ year old PERFECTLYWORKING analog synths out there. If youare a collector, or you have an “Eighties” band, you’re gonna want this Prophet5. I’m asking $8900 for the machine, anvil case, and original Performance/Tech manual. (Make me an offer). I amlocal to the SF Bay Area, but can safely ship it about anywhere in the lower 48states for around $300. ” Click here to visit listing on eBay
