” Vintage Oberheim OB-8 Owned By Legendary Bob Siebert w/ Hard Case + Extras! Synthesizer itself is in very clean condition overall. No major dust or dirt buildup of any kind. Cosmetically it looks very nice, but there are some obvious signs of wear, mainly the 2 holes on the back which were part of a previous tech’s attempt at fitting this unit with the after-market MIDI upgrade. Other than that, all the knobs and parts are present and all look very nice.
The unit was handed down to me directly from Bob. I did some cleaning, and bought brand new ROM chips from Italy. I wanted to do a full restoration, but determined that I liked the unit as close to factory original as possible. I was able to test many of the components, and even the original battery was running at a strong 3V with absolutely zero signs of leakage or corrosion.
Functionally, being as this is such a complex unit, I can’t guarantee any functionality, simply due to the age of the unit. At this time, the unit powers on, all of the buttons and knobs seem to be responsive, and the synthesizer itself is outputting an audio signal that sort of sounds like a constant musical “beat”. I am able to trigger the “Autotune” function, and I can recall saved settings. It seems like the keybed is functioning, but I’m not getting any full “musical” output by pressing the keys (so no notes actually “play”). The only output that’s audible (from all 3 outputs) is that generated tone that changes when you press certain buttons (like waveform etc). All components inside look good and tested fine, which is also why I chose not to rebuild the power supply at this time.
Other than that, the sale includes the nicely padded and very sturdy case. It will be shipped in this case and shipped as is. If you’re not interested in the extra memorabilia, just let me know and I can possibly lower the shipping cost. Shipped exactly as shown in the pictures.
