” The Opus-3 is one great little synth. It was designed by Herbert A. Deutsch from Hofstra University who originally nudged Dr. Robert Moog into building synthesizers and later served as director of sales & marketing for Moog Music. Herb also wrote the owner’s manual. The sounds are broken up into 3 categories: Strings, Brass and Organ. Strings and Brass have their own separate VCF (filter) sections, the Organ section has none. The Opus-3 also has 2 sound outputs for an early stereo effect with panning! It’s a colorful little synth with clearly laid out sliders and is fairly straight forward. “Contemplating selling my System 100 or at least gauging interest based on its condition. The synth is far from perfect but has been partially refurbished. It was saved from going to recycling and I did what I could considering my skill-set. The synth functions as it should but the portamento slider is missing. The LFO/Keyboard gate switch is a bit wonky but works, the pulse width mod switch needs replacing and the cutoff frequency slider functions but not perfectly. Missing high C black key and high D is cracked but the whole keybed functions completely. Aesthetically it looks like it went through a war but that kind of added to the allure for me. Those are the bad aspects but they are tons of good also. Some of the knobs are not original and a full new set is available online. IF I sell it I really want to see it go to someone who will continue the refurb and breathe new life into it. I won’t be bummed at all if it doesn’t sell.”

I recently took this to my professional tech for a full restoration, including a full recap of all 18 cards & power supply, new batteries, cleaning up pots & keyboard keys, tuning & calibrating, etc. It’s plays beautifully & is 100% fully functional.
