Here is what I know: I purchased unit on eBay two years ago, wanting a vintage D-50. The unit worked perfectly on arrival and for about six months afterward. Then the unit would only play sounds on key release. This problem is known and usually is indicative of a bad keyscan board or connection to it. If you are handy with electronics, it may be an easy fix if you can track down the parts. I have searched for months here looking for a complete keyscan board to no avail.
The unit was cleaned (previous owner had two-sided foam tape and stickers all over unit) and was working perfectly. Keyboard itself feels Roland-luxurious as original. No dents/dings in the chassis, however there are missing screws on the bottom panel (indicating it was serviced before) and the rubber feet/screws are missing.
The unit DOES play perfectly via MIDI, is capable of sending/receiving sysex, all buttons are functioning as well as MIDI in/out/thru. All audio/phone outputs working. Display is about 70% brightness from new, no bad elements on LCD. Joystick functions perfectly. Sound (via MIDI) is original quality.
