“This TX802 is sounds amazing and is in my opinion one of the best FM synths ever made. It is very versatile, and it’s 16 voices can be distributed in many ways from 8 2-voice synths, to 1 16-voice polysynth. It is in good condition with some wear from rack screws and other racked gear. I have owned this for 30 years and it’s been used only in my smoke free studio the whole time. As can be seen in the photographs, the power cord has been shortened to facilitate more efficient racking.
It still has the 2 programming pullouts(!), but the tabs have recently broken, and are reinforced with tape. It comes with a RAM4 memory cartridge which holds even more great sounds!

“Working when pulled from service a few years ago. Been well taken care of in a smoke-free, air conditioned environment since it was purchased new way back when… I am the second owner and I know the original owner well. Going mostly virtual now so my idea of integrating this unit is waning and this great synth needs to be used by someone instead of it sitting on the sidelines.

“This is a 16 voice, 8 part multitimbral FM synthesizer — a rackmount version of the DX7mk2. The unit is in very good condition. Cosmetically there is some light rack rash on the top and on the mounts. Functionally it works great, the LED screen is bright and clear and all UI buttons work as they should. It has been kept racked and in regular use in my smoke free home studio. Comes with RAM cartridge and home-printed manual. Does not come with original program sheet.”

“Yamaha TX802 19″ Rack Mount Sound Module.
This has been in storage for the last 6 years. Fired it up and was blown away by the pure awesomeness of this unit – beats any plugin.
Before it went into storage I had issues with some slight distortion on the stereo outputs (I & II) however I used it with the seperate outputs into my mixing desk with no issues. (not sure if there is an internal volume setting that is causing this). I have not as yet fully tested the seperate outputs as I no longer have a large mixer but hopefully will have access to test these on 22nd May. I will update the listing with the results.
I have read up on the distortion issue and believe it is not a major problem to fix – but I am not the best at electronics. It would be great for some-one to get this iconic unit back into A1 condition.
The only other issue is the data cartridge is coming up with a cartridge formatting error. This was functioning fine before it went into storage.
This is an incredibly versatile machine with an amzing array of possibilities. Appart from the slight distortion and the cartridge error, it performs as it should. All the buttons function and the display is clear.
No original box or manual – the manual is available online to download for free.”
