It’s that beautiful yet grungy 1 unit rackmount FM synth from Yamaha that has been used in countless house/techno/pop/rap hits. Almost every preset is awesome and it has a sound that I love. I’ll buy another one day but for now I’m done with music. It’s in good shape and works perfectly but it does have some expected scuffs and scrapes for something this old. I bought it secondhand a few years ago and it’s just sat in my bedroom since. I don’t thrash my gear or do anything crazy around it. This is also in pretty nice cosmetic shape compared to others I looked at on eBay. “Yamaha tx81z FM Rack Synthesizer with X81pg programmer — In good condition! 100% functional! Some buttons on tx81z are a little sticky(due to age) but work fine. The left rack ear on the tx81z is bent a little but does not prevent easy racking and definitely does not effect functionality.
This tx81z comes with the X81pg programmer and US power supply.
The X81pg makes the tx81z one of most easiest programmable FM synths out there. It is a joy!
The tx81z sounds fantastic! These older FM synths have some grit and gusto that the newer ones miss.”

“This listing is for one Yamaha TX81Z. I bought it in 1990 from a fiend who was the original owner and it has had minimal use and movement since then. I have thoroughly tested and assessed it. My description is accurate and I’m selling it as is with no returns. The two flaws that I found do not affect the performance of the unit at all. At some point the power cord was nicked a few inches in from the plug and the outer jacket had a small breach. The inner wires have their own jackets and they were completely intact. I covered the spot with electrical tape and checked for any shorting or noise by bending the cord in every direction at that spot and it is totally sound.. The other issue is that there is a slight hum coming from the unit itself when powered up but it does not come through or affect the audio outputs at all. ”
