“This DX 21 is in need of a simple (kind of) battery replacement as the factory patches will be erased when you power down. All of the sounds are loaded on the on board ROM, and you can see by the picture that the Grand Piano patch was loaded, so it will definitely load sounds. Battery is a little tricky to get to and I just elected to sell it cheap rather than work on it, as I am not using the keyboard at this time. All functions seem to work , but I haven’t spent a ton of time with it. The unit functions 100%, including the CV & S-Trig sockets (I used it with a Kenton Pro Solo midi-CV converter, not included in the sale)
It is in very good condition for its age. There are some light blemishes and very fine scratches to the paint along the top edge and a mark above the M on the rear of the unit, all of which I have tried to show in the photo. However these are minimal and overall it’s in remarkable condition for a synth that is 47 years old!

This unit was purchased new by me, lightly used for studio work in the 90’s and has been in climate controlled storage ever since. The battery has NOT been replaced, but presets appear to be accessible. I no longer have a studio available to thoroughly test the unit, but was in full working order the last time I used it. “Purchased as a project a couple of years ago. It used to belong to an old chap who left it be for 20+ years in his storage. Finally, got around to finishing it this February, so it’s ready to go.
Work done:
– Bottom chassis had to be stripped to bear metal and then repainted due to corrosion
– The unit itself was completely disassembled. Every board and panel was checked and cleaned. All pots were also lubricated, so no noise or crackling present.
– Main chassis screws polished (shiny brass now)
– Envelope circuit rebuilt with NE5532 ICs
– Yamaha VCA chip (IG00151) replaced
– Trigger circuit rebuilt
– Both LEDs replaced – orange colour now
– The unit was tuned in line with Yamaha service manual, so it is currently in tune
Visual condition:
– Bottom chassis is in mint condition due to a fresh respray job
– Top side + panel has multiple marks, unfortunately. All markings/writings can be read without any issues, though. So, it doesn’t affect its control.”

“This is a great condition Yamaha FB-01 FM sound generator. It has some marks on the top and sides as can be seen in images. On the bottom side it is missing one of the 1mm-2mm pads. On this design I’ve noticed it sits on the screws more than these pads so the design wobbles a milimeter when on a flat surface. Adding some thicker felt pads at these four locations higher than these screws would solve that if desired. Signature required.”
