“I am original owner of this Vintage excellent condition never used on the road Yamaha DX7. Everything works as its suppose to. I struggled to buy this state of art Digital keyboard for $2000 dollars from E.U. Wurlitzer Music and Sound in Boston in the early eighties. I used it as a midi controller in my home studio .The DX7 is very well built Keyboard and I never had any issues with mine. My DX7 has never be abused. I have not used it in years but would plug it in to check internal battery every so often over those years( it’s at 4.5 ). The sound of it really bings you back to the 80s.

“All functions work. No sound through headphones (just noise). We have no ROM 3 cartridge to take it off “LOCAL MIDI”. Definitely needs ROM 3 cartridge. “This was working Perfectly until a couple of days ago. If you look at pictures 6,7,8, you can see the culprit. It looks like something has burned out on the mains input circuit board, its probably not called that, sorry i dont know much about these things. Im certain this is an easy fix for somone in the know. The Synth is in worn condition but everything worked perfectly up until it decided to catch fire. Well it did smell like that !! There is no case with the DX7 so it is COLLECTION ONLY sorry about that !!!! ”

“The keyboard is in full working condition with one exception. The spring on one of F# keys does not function and neither does the key. The cover on the function keys is cracked in four places but the keys beneath do themselves work. In both cases see the photos I have included of these defects. There are also a number of small scuffs and scratches of a cosmetic nature”

“Very good condition, one owner, mild use, smoke-free, and fully functional except the battery needs to be replaced. All buttons are functional and none have cracks from overuse. Because the battery is dead, I loaded sounds into the on-board memory to prove that it is working properly. If loading sound banks via MIDI, the battery is not needed. Battery replacement procedure is fairly straight-forward and can be found on YouTube. There are minor scuffs and scratches on the bottom but nothing serious. “According to Ray at Fair Deal music in the Bullring,Birmingham, where I bought this c.1990, this Yamaha DX7 used to belong to TheDamned.

As you can see in the photos, there’s some cosmetic damage to the metal on the right-hand-side; apparently caused by a lamp directed onto the keyboard whilst on tour. There are some other battle scars: the slider buttons are missing; some of the plastic above the control buttons is scratched and cracked. “You are bidding on Yamaha DX7 classic synth. The keyboard was completely tested after sitting on a shelf for last couple years and absolutely everything works as suppose to be: all keys, display, all buttons etc- all work great. meanwhile the synth needs to be filled by sounds. We lost all patches about 2 years ago, so battery was replaced, also power cord was replaced on new one, but we never got any cartridge to fill keyboard by sounds. So I recorded some sort of spacy patch #1 just to get sound and test keys and all functions. you’ll need some cartridge or you can do it by yourself but DX series is kind of difficult to program. anyway, it’s possible and it takes time. Cosmetically the synth has some marks and imperfections here and there, but after all it doesn’t look bad for basically 40 years old instrument and cosmetics doen’t effect on functionality at all. Due an age and vintage nature the synth goes AS IS. But as I said she does works great, just fill out by sounds. we put very reasonable price. “Originally DX7 IID but a floppy drive was installed. However I cannot get the floppy drive to work. Has the E! expansion installed and operates as intended otherwise. Keybed is in good shape but has one squeaky key. All sounds and keys work, some of the presets have defaulted to INIT. the board will probably need to have the original sounds reinstalled. “Selling my Yamaha DX7, I got this keyboard in 1985, it’s held up great and still works excellent. The sounds and capabilities of this synth are so iconic and smooth. A grail.

The only issues it has is the C Sharp, and F flat key need to be replaced which you can find those on eBay as well and the battery needs to be replaced.

“This keyboard has the original, more desirable metal casing. Recently serviced. It works well and is in good condition. There is a dent on the left side (as shown in picture #4). There are currently no patches stored in the memory. Like most people (except Brian Eno) I don’t know how to program the DX7 and can’t test the memory; however, the battery was replaced a few years ago.
