“Oberheim Matrix-6 Synthesizer
Original owner, purchased new in 1986 and maintained by owner. Good condition, but hasn’t been played regularly in recent years. Replaced backup memory battery, put new caps in power supply. Checked basic functions, MIDI in/out, external program load, keyboard, front panel settings – all appear to be operational. Passes calibration routine with no errors. Checked DAC and HFO calibration with meter and scope. This synthesizer does have some wear and tear. In the mid 90’s the main board was damaged by an electrical surge which required repairing a trace and replacing the EPROM, micro, and memory. The low C key cracked during a move and was repaired with lexan bracing under the key. The repair is visible but the key is solid. There is a custom port (plugged) next the headphone jack that was used for a custom breath controller board add-on. This board has been removed from the synth. See photos. The synthesizer has not had any problems since. Selling as-is. Keep it going for another 30 years. This package includes:

“2 years ago when I plugged in the keyboard it made one sound that was constant and unalterable. Today there was no sound. The keyboard was unattached to the base but it only needs two screws. The keyboard was also unattached from the rest of the circuitry. I reattached it with no discernible results. The glass over the led light on the left upper corner of the keyboard is broken but the light works. There is no power cord for this keyboard but it is the same type of cord that’s used for a computer monitor which is easy and cheap to obtain. ” Click here to search for synths on eBay

The 3v internal battery has been replaced with a fresh battery and is slotted as well for easy access and replacement (which won’t need to happen anytime soon). “This is a working 5 voice Oberheim OB-SX synth.
New bushings were installed and the keyboard leveled.
The synth needs some attention. Some double triggering, keyboard contacts should be cleaned to help resolve this. Synth should also be calibrated to keep in tune better across the keys. The power button light stays on even when switched off. Strange, though it doesn’t affect anything. Several screws missing from end pieces.
All buttons and switches appear to be working, though I’m not sure what “Narrow / Broad” switch does, I didn’t hear a difference.
“Hold” and “Chord” buttons work by holding a key, then pressing “Hold” then “Chord.”
I typically turn on synth, wait a few minutes, then hit “Auto” in order to tune. As stated, it needs calibration to be in better tune, but there are plenty of sounds that play wonderfully as is. See videos.
This Oberheim is being sold “as-is” with no returns, due to its vintage nature and commotion during shipment. Get it tuned up or use it for parts for another Oberheim.”

“This is a previously used Oberheim Matrix 12. The Matrix 12 comes straight from our professional recording studio and is in excellent shape. The synthesizer was recently cleaned and serviced giving it longevity and peak performance. The only cosmetic wear you will find is on the wood side paneling, most notably on the left panel; the wood is partially chipped. Overall, this Matrix 12 is in very clean condition and is a prime example of a legendary synthesizer.”

It’s been recently serviced including a power supply recap, so is in great working condition.
Cosmetic condition is really excellent. There’s minor blemishes only to the front and rear panels. The wooden sides are both in tidy condition with only minor blemishes.

“Oberheim FVS-1 Four Voice Synthesizer
This is a great example of a four voice. This unit was restored recently, with rebuilt power supply and decoupling caps replaced on all boards, pots cleaned, keyboard bushings replaced and entire keybed cleaned and polished out, and oscillator tracking calibrated.
It plays and sounds incredible. Only issues are that the master volume pot is a little scratchy (only when adjusted), and memory store/recall does not work properly despite replacement battery. Memory storage on this keyboard is not very useful anyway – since some of the most important settings cannot be stored with a patch by design (modulation routing, etc.). The more useful features of the optional programmer module all work perfectly (vibrato, centralized pitch, filter control and envelopes). Tolex is original, and some bumps, bruises and rips have been professionally touched up (worst of it was on the lid).”

I’ve had it now for over a decade since I acquired it and its been kept in the studio storage closet, waiting for its time to be brought roaring back to life. When I bought it, the previous owner said to me “it had some problems”. He wasn’t specific at all. I remember that it did power up though. I did not hear it generate any sounds though…
I’ll admit, new computer software emulation programs has made me lazy… Now I just click on a emulation program if I want to experiment with a certain sound. It’s sad… but true. The journey of discovery by creating with a real physical synth using knobs and controls has been paved over by a freeway of mouse clicks and drag and drops. Progress, I guess…
Needless to say I’m not going through with this project. It’s time to move on and turn it over to someone that has the desire, energy, financial resources, time and patience.
These instruments have withstood the test of time, as cumbersome as they may be to program. But it’s really no different than a Moog Modular, Arp 2600 or other synths of that generation. That’s the joy of working with these classic synths! It takes solid effort and determination to discover the sounds that are unique to your music. In other words it takes work! These instruments will continue to be serious tools for music composition by their intrinsic design and by the very nature and essence of their sound. Whatever genre of music that came out of the 70’s and 80’s – from rock, jazz, pop or electronic, you’ll hear an Oberheim. Nothing else sounds like an Oberheim! This instrument deserves a home where it will be preserved, used and appreciated for decades to come…

“Purchased second-hand about 10 years ago.
Take it out about 10 times.
There is no problem with either of the MIDI sound control.
Fine scratches and paint peeling on the wooden side panel (3rd image), deflection on the front panel (4th image) and cello tape mark (5th image), small chip on the VCO1 switch (6th image), rear panel There are two stickers applied (7th image), but I think there is no problem with the performance.”

“Vintage ’80’s Oberheim DX Programable Digital Drum Machine. This drum machine is an early version and does not have MIDI. The overall condition is very good while showing some wear from age and use. All buttons and sliders are in good working order. The original samples sound great and each one can be tuned using the back controls. We were able to record some drum patterns and play them back. We did not try interfacing a cassette, so those functions were not tested. Includes an AC cable. Sold as-is. ”

Hasn’t been used in literally 25 years. Having been stored away safely in a cold dark closet since 1994, this belonged to infamous supergroup/duo BARNES & BARNES! The “FISH HEADS” guys! They got this early model, which had just come out, back in mid-1983. Was used on their “Soak It Up” ep, all the way up to their Dinosaur Album in 1994, then they only used “digital” synths pretty much from then on. No one knew that 25 years later, THIS would again be the COOL old synth to own”

“Powers on when plugged in. In great to excellent condition. I used it in my music studio years ago. Unfortunately, after a year, the studio had to be torn down. The building was to be gutted and this unit, along with all of my other studio music equipment, have to be stored away – they have been cleaned, wrapped and stored away in a storage unit until now. I have not used it again since I packed it away, and now I am moving out of the country soon. Thus, I am selling as is.”
