“The external physical condition can be seen in the attached photos. There are no cracks or loose joints in the case and the instrument is very sturdy. Oscillators 1, 2, and 3 bleed through the headphone output. There is a constant background drone. This does not come through the main output and does not affect performing or recording. After warming up and being played for an hour or so most of the keys are stable. Some of the upper octave keys will go unstable and the frequency will fluctuate from time to time. Most switches and pots are scratchy when flipped/turned. Sometimes the main output switch does not work. If you turn if off and then slowly turn it back on it will work. I worked with the instrument for 3 hours yesterday and set all the internal pots from the rear panel and those are the only problem notes I have. There is a somewhat loud key-click, but that is not heard in the output, and would not be heard during a performance or a recording session. Also there is one yellowed key. That was a replacement key from the 70’s that yellowed over time. (According to the roadies they did not know what happened.) The thing sounds absolutely awesome and playing it brings back memories of past gigs and of hearing Keith Emerson or Rick Wakeman back in the 70’s.

Included with the instrument is a copy of the users manual and field service manual. Also included is the original sound settings guide (with some pages missing) and the S-trigger that is used to provide an external input to the filter banks. “Being perhaps the most popular version of one of the most iconic monophonic analog synth series of all time is no easy feat, but the Moog MiniMoog Model D manages to pull it off. As one of the first non-modular synthesizers, the MiniMoog Model D is highly intuitive and requires very little knowledge to use. The model D boasts contouring circuits and three separate, completely original oscillators, one of which can be used as an LFO. Although the Model D was reissued, the ’70s MiniMoog Model D hasn’t depreciated in value, desirability, or style.

I have tested this out at home and all keys, oscillators, knobs etc are in working order. The serial number is 4101. I’m not a certified technician however and am not comfortable opening the case up, evaluating the circuitry, and cannot make a technician’s guarantee. “Fully functional. Recently serviced. There are cosmetic dings and scratches on the wood and some very minor defects on the face plate, but nothing unexpected from a unit of this age. All parts appear to be original except perhaps the power plug and the washer around the headphone jack. ” Minimoog model D from 1974. Plays and sounds as it should, and with the Opto-Key modification, fussing with the old style keyboard contacts after they oxidize and go bad is no longer an issue. The wood is in good shape, the previous owner has scratched his name and phone number into the metal case, the rest of the metal has some scuffs and stains, the power lightbulb has burned out, and the headphone output volume knob is very crackly (this has not affected my use of it since the other two main outputs work just fine). ” I have owned this Mini, Serial # 9753 since 1989. It is in need of some work– cleaning and tuning. It was functioning perfectly until a year ago, but the oscillators are not currently working as they should.
Also damage to the right side of the wood casing was repaired when it was serviced by Rogue Music. This has not affected the functionality of the instrument.
It does need work, but not extensive work. This is reflected in the price.”

” This is a fully functional all original Minimoog Model D from the 1970s. All serious buyers know what these are and what they can do, so there is no need to go into all of that history. It has been recently serviced, although you can hear a bit of mild crackling when engaging a few of the switches, which could be easily rectified with a more extensive cleaning. It does not affect normal playing of the instrument. Some normal cosmetic wear and tear on the wood frame as one would expect on an instrument of this age. Serial # 5017 means this is one of the early BETTER sounding models. Although the later serial numbers have increased oscillator stability, Moog simultaneously made other modifications that changed the sound, which many experts agree was to its sonic detriment. This Minimoog however is stable, which means you’re getting the best sounding version, which is paramount in my opinion. No electronic modifications have been made to this Minimoog (that could cause problems!). The real thing…all original electronic components. Local pickup is of course accepted and will therefore mean no shipping costs in the pricing, however all responsibility lies with the buyer once picked up. Great condition has been in glass case storage since the 1980’s as the 4 boards were removed to be rack mounted by Studio Electronics. Therefore this Minimoog has not been used since the late 1980’s with no wear to the pots or to the keyboard. Was used as display in studio glass case for many years. The 4 boards can be purchased new at ebay item #322308000703 for $1100 and you will have a like new vintage Minimoog. CV mod has been added but may not be complete as boards have been removed. Note : will not play until you add the 4 internal boards. As is due to age”

“This is a original 1972 Minimoog, serial number is #1442, the 442nd production model in April of 1972. It is a rare transition model in that it has the clear plexiglass pitch and modulation wheels before they switched to the off-white type. Otherwise it has all the original components of an early model D including the oscillators, which were never upgraded.

This MiniMoog had a “Studio Electronics” midi installation but it has been lovingly removed and brought back to it’s original specification by former Moog employee and synth expert Nick Montoya. And with it’s purchase, his 6 month warranty. Nick has restored to “like new” performance and playability.

In a previous servicing, the keyboard was re-bushed and plays like new. And the voice cards were given 28 turn trimmer for fine tuning and calibration. You can see the blue trim pots in the picture of the oscillator card. This doesn’t change the sound in any way. Another photo shows the R.A. Moog card etching on it’s flip side. ”

“Late 70s to early 80s Minimoog D WITH Kenton MIDI professionally installed by an ex Moog tech from back in the day. The Kenton Midi works perfectly with no glitch, lag or weird issues… it RAWKS! As does the Mini itself, The keys feel great, play great, all knobs work as they should although there are a couple that are a little scratchy when moved… only when moved (deoxit will clean er up).

” Vintage Moog Minimoog Model D – One Original Owner now selling. I bought the Minimoog in about 1977 or 1978 New from Naperville music in the western suburbs of Chicago. The Serial # looks like it is Serial # 10460. However, the serial number stamp is very light and it may be 10468? This instrument has been stored for about 40 years in a custom travel case. I have loved this instrument, but it was rarely played the first few years I owned it and then locked away ever since. I have tested the operation and all keys, oscillators, pots, filters, switches and wheels are working properly.

There is a cosmetic issue with the right side and the rear of the walnut case. The foam in the travel case degraded over 40 years and bonded with the lacquer finish on the cabinet. I removed as much of the foam as possible manually. Then I tried a bit of soap and water to remove the remaining foam from the finish. When this did not work, I tried some lemon oil and that softened the foam embedded into the lacquer. I then attempted to use a plastic card to remove some of the softened foam off of the wood finish but it appeared that the laquer was also coming off. Rather than continue attempts to remove the foam and damage the finish I have left it as is. This case may be cleaned up, refinished, or restored or there are new replacement cases available. I have left the case restoration decisions up to the new owner or the new owner may just decide to play this instrument as it was designed to be. Everything about this synthesizer is original and functional. It does not deserve to be stored away in a box anymore.

It is well past the time for this amazing instrument to be owned by someone who can truly appreciate it and create music with it as it’s inventor would have wanted. The travel case will be included with the Minimoog but the foam in the case on the right and the rear needs to be replaced. I have included photos of all of the above. If you know this synth, there’s little more to say, if you don’t, it has been and always will be the greatest synth every created. We are slimming down our setup, and as we have so much Moog gear including other Minimoogs, this is a reluctant sale, and the best of the lot.It’s been serviced in the last month by our synth tech Nick Montoya of Moog Music.
