Mono, Siel @ 18 January 2011, Comments Off on Siel Mono

“Here’s one you don’t see very often, a Siel Mono.
Italian made analogue synth with one DCO.
It’s not the prettiest thing you’ve ever seen but it is unique, sounds great, round and fat and is very playable. It has two modes, Preset and Free. The preset mode gives you quite timid and cheesy sounds typical of the era (flute, piccolo, bass, trombone sax, violin etc) with some editing possible but really quite limited. The Mono really comes into it’s own when you hit the Free button. It has an adequate selection of waveforms, a good sounding filter (although the resonance doesn’t seem to do much) switchable between hi pass, band pass and low pass or all three together and if you’re after a bit of aggression activate the animator, a chorus like effect with adjustable depth. The LFO can be assigned to the DCO or the VCF and has depth and delay. It’s got portamento and pitchbend. I’ve used it mainly for leads but also for basses as well as the occasional blip. It’s in fine working condition and cosmetically you won’t find much wrong either, apart from some of the slider caps that has been replaced. I had it professionally serviced about 18 months ago, and since then it’s been sitting in my non smoking studio. I have far too many mono synths and need the space, otherwise I’d never sell it” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.
