“Available for purchase: a Korg Polysix synth, upgraded with a new Kiwi Polysix power supply & CPU/MIDI board, a Tubbutec Polysex osc pitch/drift board, and new key contacts from LA Synth Co. Also included: original manual, Kiwisix box, and original Korg synth brochure. Everything is in solid cosmetic shape and works great. The keys feel brand new after the contact upgrade, and the knobs & switches are smooth and responsive. All button switches have been replaced. There are a few surface marks/scratches on the exterior of the case and could use a thorough cleaning overall. Please see photos for more detail. So there are no surprises, the inside of the case is cracked on the left side, causing a small opening in the rear. This isn’t visible on the side and doesn’t cause any instability. In good working condition, this unit has had the troublesome lead acid battery replaced with a new, and non leaking lithium battery. Leakage from the old battery had caused some PCB track damage, this was fully repaired at the same time.

Recently serviced by Synth Repair in London, who also did the battery replacement work some time ago.

This is a lovely synth, a similar alternative to the Roland Juno 6/60, with the advantage of chord memory and onboard effects. “I was given this by an old gearhead who worked with Blur.

Unfortunately it doesnt function properly and emits a piercing noise when turned on and thats it, no keys or buttons work.

Im fairly certain the fault is battery leakage and needs a new motherboard (a kiwisix for example) although I am just making an educated guess and could be wrong.

It has been slightly modified by adding MIDI capabilities which raises the value of the synthesizer significantly.

” I am rather sadly selling my beloved Korg Polysix. This is a genuine analogue synth, first manufactured in the early 80s. I bought this particular Polysix from a friend back in the early 90s, and I believe this friend purchased it new. Over the last 25 years I have enjoyed playing this synth in a number of different musical ventures and styles, but now demands of space and cash mean I need to put it up for sale.

Everything is working on this Polysix – all keys, knobs, buttons etc. A few years ago I repaired all the key contacts. I have also changed the battery from the original (the original batteries were well known to leak inside the synth).

The sound of the Polysix is quite unique – very characterful, very organic. I love playing pads and chords on it, but it also handles lead lines and bass lines very nicely. You can stack all 6 oscillators to make fat solo lines. The filter can be pretty extreme. There’s also a great arpeggiator which is fun to play around with. It’s just a great synth for messing about and improvising on, so easy to twiddle a knob to shape the sounds.

Included is the original wooden case (I believe it is the original case anyway). This has a lovely purple fur interior for the Polysix to sit in. I have recently replaced the handle on the case.”

“I bought this a couple of years ago for a number of projects and just fell in love with its incredible sound (so so warm – think Boards of Canada for a simple idea). I bought it in the same condition (with the same sticker) for a significant amount of money as they are quite hard to find. It had just had its electronics cleaned out and tested (hence the rather annoyingly glued modulation wheel area – see pix). It has some marks here and there but plays beautifully – remarkable for these synths given their age. It has never been toured and only kept in studio. When not used for recording this was always covered and protected carefully. ”

“Korg Polysix Vintage VCO Analogue Synthesiser – UK plug, 220V.

The Polysix is one of the few vaguely affordable, old-school VCO synths still available. Back in 1981, it was supposedly Korg’s attempt to challenge Sequential Circuits’ Prophet-5.

This particular Polysix has had a lot of studio use in the last few months and would probably benefit from a service. Still, considering that the synth is nearly 40 years old (so CV only), it has behaved extremely well.

The only practical issues I’ve had with it:

– – The arpeggio button and patch selector button 7 sometimes need a second press.

– – Keys C0 and D0 tend to double-trigger.

Cosmetic issues:

– – A handful of the patch selection buttons sit slightly deeper into the synth’s metal frame than the others (see pictures). All function.

– – A few of the keys at the treble end of the board sit at fractionally uneven heights. You don’t notice when playing, though.

– – The wood veneer on the side and front panels could do with re-gluing at the edges.

“Korg Polysix Vintage Analog Synthesizer for spares or repair. Most of the buttons, knobs and keys do not work (most of them seem to work around the 4th octave).
The sound starts up as soon as you turn on the synth – this rising, pitch bend until it settles at around the lowest note.
It sounds totally discordant and screechy so might be good if you’re into industrial noise or power electronics, other than that it’s basically unusable.

“Vintage Korg Poly Six Synthesizer

In very good condition cosmetically. (one key cracked) Stored in a closet the last 15years.

THE BAD:

The KLM 367 board was damaged by corrosion due to battery leakage. When powered on, Bank A,B C and several random program numbers would be on at the same time. There was practically no sounds /output. When trying to load original programs from the tape, it would go immediately to“ERROR” at best. I replaced IC30, IC31, IC23, and IC25. I also tried to repair some of the damaged traces in the battery area using jumper wires on both sides of the board. I replaced the NI CAD battery with a Lithium battery and removedC40 and replaced R91 with a 1S1555 diode.

THE GOOD:

When powered on only Bank A and Program 1 are on as expected. When I tried to load the original patches “From Tape” the “Found” and “LOAD” LED lights up and programs1 thru 8 light up in sequence as expected with no errors. But no programs are actually loaded. I get the same “STRINGY VIOLIN” at all program numbers. I can now go into “WRITE” mode on a program and change the parameters to whatever I want and it plays just fine. If I leave that program and come back to it, it’s gone. I’m happy to at least get it to point it plays and the parameters are functional. I now noticed there are some dead keys but I don’t want to venture into it any further as I’m only a novice at this type of thing. ” Click here to search for synths on eBay

I have not tested the presets as I don’t know how.

“When I bought this synth in 1999, it was already 18 years old. At the time, it was in perfect condition, save for a couple dings in the wood. I used this in several studio albums and it also made more than a few trips to the stage. For about 8 years this was my go-to vintage synth.

As the years passed, I didn’t really play anymore. In fact, it has been in storage, untouched, from 2009-2018. I kind of forgot I had it.

However, when I turn it on today, it doesn’t act the same. What used to be one of my favorite synths is now virtually unrecognizable. There are so many things wrong with it now, it makes me want to cry. I have no idea how to fix it, so that’s why I’m selling it. It makes me sad because I loved this thing back in the day and it’s really cool looking in a studio.

Alas, I will give you a rundown of the things I found wrong today with the Korg Polysix in this listing.

BAD THINGS ABOUT THE SYNTH IN THIS LISTING:

1.) 3-4 of the keys dont trigger sound, this was not true before it was stored, it might be dirty contacts.

2.) The volume knob is somewhat scratchy when turned

3.) The ASDR knobs don’t work correctly. As a result, most of the sounds this synth makes have quick attack, hold as long you press the key and then immediately release when finished. Similar to the dynamics of a brass instrument. However if you turn the ASDR knobs weird things can happen, but not what you’d expect.

4.) Many knobs work sometimes and don’t work other times. Or they don’t seem to be changing the same thing they changed before.

5.) It takes between 5 and 30 minutes for it to get to a state where it can make sound. This is kind of normal (battery issue?) and one of the reasons I stopped using it. “Warm up time.”

6.) It is completely out of tune. While the keys do ascend and descend, none of the notes are a proper interval. An octave is not 12 steps, but more like 11.3 steps. C1 to B2 is almost an octave on this synth. I’ve never seen anything like it.

7.) Some of the buttons are missing. The contacts still work. See pictures for details on the cosmetics.

8.) Sometimes it will start randomly making glitchy and creepy noises on its own. This synth literally seems to have a mind of its own ocassionally.

These are the most obvious bad things I could find. There are probably other issues I don’t know how to test for. Let there be no misconception, this synth is very far from perfect condition and some people might consider it usable for parts only. The only reason I don’t list it as parts only is because it powers up and makes sound and some musicians might be able to use it as-is.

GOOD THINGS ABOUT THE SYNTH IN THIS LISTING:

1.) It is the ultimate “weird noise generator.” Because of all the aforementioned problems, it is nearly impossible to get this synth to make anything remotely close to a normal sound. Almost every knob turn results in something unpredictable; however,

2.) The cutoff and resonance filters still work perfectly, every time, and they still sound great.

3.) The arpeggiator, pitch bend wheel, chorus effect and octave knob still works.

4.) It has never had a problem turning on. The power and lights have always worked. It has powered up without issue every single time.
