“I acquired this along with a load of other bits of vintage audio gear, and I can’t get this running sadly. It’s not totally dead, you power up and you can hear the output relay energise after a few seconds, but that’s about your lot. I suspect the CPU itself has died, but if you have a spare board or know these synths in details…

The Keyboard as a whole is complete, but it is missing all the screws that hold the casing together – the previous owner had obviously took it apart and put the screws somewhere safe, known only to him. If you’re thinking of having a go with it, then this is as far as I got:

PSU – Replaced the 7905 and 7805 regulators, powers up fine and gives correct voltages as per the service manual. Also replaced mains switch and re-wired although currently on a flying lead as I don’t have the correct C-9 mains connector, although one on order so will be here by the time this auction ends.

CPU board – Battery had corroded, removed battery cleaned PCB and fitted new battery with a holder. Left overnight to completely empty ram, still would not fire up. Powered up just the CPU board externally on the bench, not drawing excessive current on any of the supplies. Tried also pressing 5 + 8 on power up etc.. nothing, hence the assumption that the CPU is dead.” Click here to visit listing on eBay

“This is a Korg DW 8000 Digital Waveform Synthesizer with Analog Filter. It has been meticulously serviced. I added the super rare Angel City Turbo Mod last year, but sadly I couldn’t get the sticker for the front face. The Turbo Mod’s manual is included. The internal battery has been replaced, and a new battery and holder is included.. Also included is the original EPROM, as is all kinds of extra key pads, inputs, and any other spare parts I have.

“This auction is for a fully functioning Korg DW-8000 synthesizer. This synth is a part of ’80s history and marks an interesting change when synths were going digital, but still had analog amplifiers (VCAs) and analog filters (VCFs).

I did some maintenance on this synth a year ago, including:

All 22 front panel switches were replaced. All buttons work perfectly with no glitching.
The battery was replaced and a battery holder was installed to make the battery easier to replace in the future. (See photos.)
The Program Up and Damper jacks were replaced. (These are the gold plated jacks in the photos.)
The original factory presets were re-loaded.
A new 8-foot power cable was purchased and is included with this sale.
I am an electrical engineer and did all the rework myself.

Aftertouch works on this synth! This is somewhat rare for a DW-8000. It takes some pressure to activate the aftertouch, but from what I read that’s normal on this keybed.

The joystick works in all four directions.

All LEDs work.

All keyboard keys are in excellent condition – no chips or cracks.

This is a great synth, and it uses the 16 digital waveforms Korg continued to use in the M1 and other classics that followed. The filter is just fantastic, and the arpeggiator and key assign modes are a joy to use.

I have owned this synth for about 25 years. It has never been out on the road since I’ve owned it, so any scrapes and scratches happened before my time. A couple of the screws on the bottom of the synth case are missing, but the unit is totally solid. I’m selling this because I just don’t use it. “Was fully working before the batteries died after being kept in storage and not used for a while. I have changed both the DW8000 onboard battery and Angel City Audio Expansion Board battery but it won’t turn on

The Angel City Audio Expansion Board board enables two patches to be combined to make one or keyboard split into two reducing the polyphony to 4 voices, eight 64 patch memory banks can be quickly loaded into current memory bank plus other enhancements (Expansion board manual included with full instructions)

“Up for sale is my KORG DW-8000. This is a very neat keyboard as it uses digital waveform generation but what is unique about it is it has analog filters. The filters on this keyboard sound great which is why many people like these keyboards. Everything is working great, aftertouch works correctly as well. Recently replaced the pitch/mod joystick knob, battery health seems to be doing good and I haven’t had any experiences with the memory wiping at all. There is some type of adhesive or something stuck to the surface that I have been unable to get off, but it does not affect playing at all. It overall is in pretty great shape other than the few cosmetic issues (Shown in pictures). Some keys are yellowing as well but it is not terrible!
