ARP Odyssey Project Machine

“This is an original Arp Odyssey Mk 1 (Model 2800) analog synthesizer. Produced from 1972-1975. Serial number is 281896. Original Anvil case is included.

Although all the original parts are probably here, I am selling this as-is, for parts only, with no returns accepted. I cannot determine if it has been serviced or modified in the past.

This synth is not in good working condition. I have been unable to determine what it needs.

All the controls are intact. I can get very interesting sounds from this synth, and I’ve used it in recordings, but it has the following problems. These are all I’m aware of and able to describe:

1) Many of the sliders are sticky and are making poor contact, rendering many of the controls ineffective or inoperable.
2) The keyboard seems to be wired in reverse; the notes increase in pitch from right to left, instead of left to right.
3) The interval between keys is more like a minor third than a half step. This is evidently a voltage issue.

Included is the original expression pedal, but I have been unable to determine how to use it.

What you can expect is for the synth to produce a variety of sounds as is, with effort and patience required on your part. Someone who is good at electronics could put this synth back in order. I don’t have time, money, or energy to pursue that, or to fix it myself.

What is most impressive about this synth is its dynamic range. It is quiet, and can produce the highest highs and the lowest lows in human hearing range.

The keyboard is in excellent condition. No sticky or uneven keys.

It has no control voltage inputs, no sequencer, and no MIDI interface. It has only two audio outputs: High level and low level (see photo).” Click here to search for synths on eBay
