# Moog Source

Moog, Source @ 15 February 2010

moogsource “This is my Moog Source, which I bought new in 1984 at Goodman Music in North Hollywood. I used it with a Moog Taurus II controller bass pedalboard (awesome set-up), so you could play key bass on the Source or on the bass pedals with your feet which I am an expert at ☺ (B-3 player). This cosmetically is in good condition for it’s age, with a nice straight keyboard but the unit overall is not mint. There’s some oxidation & scratches on aluminum parts and the wood is o.k. to good with no chips, although there are scratches on the wood but nothing major. The membrane (or switch edit panel) is in very good condition because I only programmed the 16 bass sounds and left it, with only minor modification now & then.

This works great but there’s an idiosyncrasy that I want to mention, but they can be quite common if you’re a vintage Moog user. When you first turn it on, before it’s warmed up, it sometimes it goes into a strange edit mode(occasionally it doesn’t do it at all). If you wait 5 or 10 minutes while it warms up and turn it off, then turn it on again, it’s ready to play with all operation as normal. it’s done that for about 15 years. Anyway it will take 5 or 10 minutes for the tuning to stabilize, which is common with all vintage Moogs and other old synths as well. Of course there is a tuning knob on the back of unit to tune it to your other instruments or A440 concert pitch. I imagine all the other functions work on this such as the sequencer, sample and hold, etc but I never used it in that capacity, mainly for bass sounds which are the most awesome fat bass sounds on the planet. This does come with 16 of my programmed bass sounds so enjoy!

This comes with original owner’s manual and a full set of schematics and technical service information (very important). Also comes with power cord & nice Warwick Rockbag (soft case –see photo), which has some padding and can get you by if you’re careful. I’m just throwing it in because it seems to fit OK. I’ve always moved it in a anvil case which I got rid of years ago. I will miss this dearly, but I have a rack mount Novation Super Bass Station to power the Taurus pedals.

This will be double boxed and well padded for shipping, but please keep in mind that shipping vintage electronics has its risks in extreme cold temperatures, like the snow they’ve been having across the country. If you’re local in California, pick-up is available.” Link
