# Emu Emax
“his is the same engine as the EMU SP1200, but with a lot more features. We own the SP1200, EII and EIII, and the Emax 1 is the warmest and dirtyest of all of them. You can get the coolest textures from the Emax 1. Something that cannot be done with any of the other Emu samplers due to the analog filters and adjustable sampling rate. If you want dirt and grime and character in your beats and tones, then you have found it with the Emax 1. Everything that you sample just sounds beautiful with this unit. You can really make some snappy snares and growling bass lines with this thing. Kicks sound huge and with huge bottom end. Artists tend to use the Emax 1 to process their sounds and then load them in their DAW, etc. Software can’t touch the organic dirt of the Emax 1, period.
Two common problems that plague the Emax 1 is that the floppy drives go bad, and the lack of an OS disk or the wrong one. This unit’s disk drive is working fine and we are including an OS disk. Everything works as it should. Companies like Kid Nepro and NorthStar are still selling samples on floppies for the Emax 1. The analog filters on these Emax one’s are thick and sick. The filters are so dark and dirty. No thin sounding VST can sound this way. If you’re looking for that darker Aphex Twin, or a fan of dirty beats or thick lush chords and leads, than this unit would be perfect for you. If you’re into ambient, drone, noise and experimental music you would love this board also. The LCD works fine, all the buttons and sliders are fine. All the keys work, and the floppy drives loads and saves samples and sequences. The unit does have scratches on the body like all Emax 1′s do. Also part of the clear coat has seen better days on the face. But this is only cosmetic. When you’re on stage or in your studio rendering tones and loops that no software can touch, then clear coat isn’t really gonna matter. But this is only cosmetic and not a functional issue. Scratches do not effect the sound and performance of this unit . There is one missing slider knob cap that EPR sells for $5 and they are in stock. And you can use the unit fine wtihout it. Regarding the clear coat…. a person can just rub it off with their finger and another coat underneath seems to be coming through. It’s cosmetic as we said, and has nothing to do how the unit performs. ” Link
