“The TX-7 is essentially a DX-7 desktop module. I had it in my rack but it sat on a rack shelf. It cannot be screwed into a standard rack. I talked to this unit using the Unisyn editor and also lately the MidiQuest editor. There is now a free dedicated TX-7 editor available (see link below). You will need some type of editor to swap out patches and create/edit sounds. It’s a good unit and an easy way to have real DX-7 sounds without lugging the actual keyboard. I am selling it as not working or for parts OR for repair.
Here are the facts:
1. When the unit is turned on, the LCD window displays words and numbers corresponding to functions that are accessed by pressing function buttons. They seem sensible and logical; whether they are correct or not I do not know.
2. The back-lighting for the LCD window does not work.
3. I tried it with a MIDI signal from a keyboard, no sound came out.
4. I have no owner’s manual or service manual.
5. The jacks on the back consist of an eight pin DIN labeled CASSETTE, standard MIDI jacks IN, OUT, THRU.
There is a 1/4 inch OUTPUT jack and a 1/4 inch HEADPHONE jack.
This may or not be a desirable MIDI device.” Link

This is the rack version of the famed DX-7.
I hadn’t used it in many months, and when I tried turning it on, there was no sign of life.
I changed the small internal battery and the unit turned on okay, showing the patch name in the graphic display, but faded out in about 15 seconds. I assume this means the power supply has died and it was running off the battery until the battery was fully drained.
Unit history: Bought around 1986, used in a live stage show for several years, then in a recording studio for many years, then in my small home set-up for the last 10 years or so. When it was working, all features and display were functioning perfectly.
Has a scuffed-up exterior with some tape residue and grease-pencil markings (see pictures).
