The TX16W has a particular sound character. It is good for M1-type pianos, percussion sounds, voice samples and your basic 80′s style sounds.

This 12-bit sampler has a variable 33kHz (stereo) – 50 kHz (mono) sampling-rate without aliasing, eight monophonic outputs, polyphonic stereo out and an external audio input (Mic, Line) on the front-panel. The original TX16W’s System Yamaha OS had to be loaded from 720kb disks in non-DOS format, and frequently needed reloads from the System disk. The Typhoon OS is the way to go – fast loading and reliable. Will include manual and Yamaha and Typhoon OS disks. Both are also available online (see below).

I have cleaned it up nicely. A few scratches top, sides, and bottom – very few front. I have cleaned all ¼” jacks w/Caig D5 and cleaned under the hood.

“The 1990′s Yamaha TX16W is a rack mount sampler module with 12-bit sound with a variable 50Hz sampling rate. It has a stereo output, eight monophonic outputs and an external audio input (Mic, Line) on the front-panel. This used Yamaha TX16W Stereo Sampler is in absolutely beautiful condition for its age. I am the original owner. It is a really high-quality sounding unit despite it being only 12 bit digital. But it can sample up to 50 kHz in mono! It has 16 voices/8 in stereo and is multitimbral via MIDI with 8 separate audio outputs or 2 mix outputs. It came with 1.5 MB of RAM but I upgraded it to max it out to the full 6 MB (for about an extra $450.00, literally)! It has a low density floppy drive and 17 digital filter types. Unfortunately, the OS (which is the latest revision, version 2) and filters have to be loaded from disk, as it never had a ROM version. And the Yamaha OS is really tedious and non-intuitive, unless you’re into the challenge. So I mainly used it as a sound module to load some of its awesome sample disks, to be included with the sale. Which I have a pretty extensive collection for it, which includes mainly copies of the original Yamaha Sound Library and some others. However, there is a free alternative and much better OS called Typhoon 2000 that is readily available on the net, but I have never used it. The unit requires 2 standard rack spaces for rack mounting and is fairly deep.

Also included are the Original Attached US Power Cord, Original Manuals (not a copies) and Additional MIDI Data Addendum Copy, Original OS System Disk Version 2, 7 Original Voice Disks (which came with the unit), Original Sample Input Stereo Adapter, 1 MIDI Cable, 22 Blank Floppies, and rare Original Tilt-Stand (removable for rack mounting)! Everything except for the original box – making this perfect for the collector completest or curious user.

All Original Buttons and Gain Knob are perfect and in place, the body is near pristine with very few minor fine scratches or blemishes anywhere (some rack rash on the bottom), it is cosmetically beautiful overall! Please see pics below. The LCD Display is clear and the Backlight still illuminates brightly. The unit is functionally operating perfectly. It is built like a tank and weighs a good deal, so I will pack it extra well to ensure its safety and charge for only actual shipping cost! This unit was only used occasionally in the studio and never gigged, however it was used in both smoking and non-smoking environments, if that is an issue. It is clean and looks and functions almost like new, and is reliable, as I have never had to have the unit serviced. It offers a truly high-quality robust sound that will not disappoint! “I used this sampler here and there but never made anything with it. I just messed around enough to make sure everything works fine. I bought this to sort of “match” the MPC60, because the akai s950s seem to go for about $300 or more. It has the factory 1.5 mb of ram, but can be upgraded to 6mb of ram. Unit runs on a 3.5″ Diskette. Since I don’t have any I’m unable to test it. It powers up and the drive spins, but asks to insert a disk before you can do anything. There are some cosmetic scratches on the top, but no other physical damage. I’m not even sure what it’s used for.
