Link

These modules are now classics and highly sought after and there are not many available .

The one shown in the photograph is the actual unit .

The unit needs a good home and anyone looking and interested in this type of synth Knows what the unit does.” Link

“Here we have my Yamaha TX816…never abused, clean and in a SKB rack. (also included) Just serviced by Abelle Audio in Columbus, Ohio. I am including 1 midi cable, SKB rack (minus the front and back panels) and a cd with a truckload of DX7 patches to load into the TX816. I was in the process of loading different sounds when I decided to let her go…so you will have to listen through the cd to load the sounds you like. The cd includes the original patches and allot of NEW “Phat” and “warm” patches created by some of the best engineers and musicians on this planet. I’m an accredited producer and I absolutely urge you to do some research on this machine and you’ll love it as I do. Every year I clean out the studio in order to change my setup/sound so that I can continue to hear new music…you will not be disappointed. “For sale is a Yamaha TX816 rackmount synthesizer w/ 8xTF-1 FM modules. Each modules operates as an independent unit, so this is like having 8 DX7 sythns in your rack. Item comes with rack ears and the plastic feet for sitting the unit on a desk. The unit is in excellent condition except from some scratches on top (see pics) from equipment that was mounted above it. The unit powers on and the cards all light up, but no other testing was done as I don’t have the equipment.” Link

‘Yamaha TX816 FM Synth rack. For those dont know, this is a rack module equivalent to 8 Yamaha DX7s. This is classic 80s Vintage synths. It works completely. But it is old from the 80s so there are scratches. If you know and love the DX7 this is FM synthesis at its best. I am only selling it cause I have another. I was 80s happy” Link

“This is the classic big rack of eight DX7 synthesizers in one unit. A 19′ rack MIDI format. The classic FM synth for stacking lush keyboard sounds, slightly detuned or layered with similar tones for the thickest sound. I don’t know how to work all of it, no manual, but there is a pull-down sheet of main instructions built into the unit with all the major functions. It’s been tested to function with each unit playing sound normally, beyond that I don’t know how to use it! There are some visible scratches in the chassis, but nothing major.” Link

“Very nice shape, all modules working,” Link

“This unit is in used condition and has scratches on all sides, it is in fully functioning order. The power cable is a bit mangy looking too.You are NOT buying something new and should expect the ageing that this implies, this TX816 is a rare creature indeed and has a fantastic sound! Not for the faint hearted ;) Link

“In the early eighties these sold for anywhere between $4,000 to $5,000 with 8 modules installed. I paid about $4,300. I am the original owner, this unit is in great shape. I just checked it out, it has been sitting in a corner of my studio for some time. Modules 4,6,7,and 8 work perfectly. The others respond, but probably need new batteries then sounds installed. There are many kits available to reinstall factory sounds on these. I have not found the manual yet, but these are available online as well. This is an honest description, I am selling as is. These are very fat sounding live when the sounds are combined, and great still for sequencing!” Link

“Up for bid is a classic Yamha TX816 rack system with all 8 TF1 modules. Basically 8 dx7 voices in a single rack! Each TF1 module consists of a 16-voice, 6-operator digital FM synth engine. So a complete TX816 with all eight TF1 modules would offer up to 128 voices and 48 operators! Each TF1 also features an indepednent audio out (XLR) and MIDI I/O for a total of eight audio outputs and MIDI I/O’s. It also has one global MIDI in/out port with 8-part multitimbrality, but no common stereo or mix output.

Item has been tested and is in working condition – the photos indicate some rack rash but this does not affect the units functionality.” Link

Der Yamaha TX 816 ist eigentlich kein einzelner Synthesizer, sondern er ist ein Rack, das mit insgesamt 8 “TF-1″ Modulen ausgestattet ist. Roland SMX 880:
8 Stereo TRS inputs -10/+4
Stereo out Balanced or Un-balanced
Headphone out w/ volume

This item is in great condition and was professionally used and
housed (pulled from rack mount).

There are some scratches on the top. The mounting holes have the usual expected wear from being rack mounted. The MIDI input and outputs each have a small color banded sticker of some kind over them. “The TX816 consists of (8) TF-1 modules in one 8-Slot Rack system unit. One TF-1 is like having a DX7 or TX7 Synth module and is 100% compatible with the DX7. So, it’s like having 8 DX-7′s in one box. At the front of the TF-1′s are 4 buttons. It’s recommended to edit with an edit program in a computer, but you can also edit TX816 with a DX7 and the parameters there. Functions such MIDI, etc. can be programmed from each TF1.

Each FM voice is created by setting the value of 145 Editing parameters and 25 Function parameters. Multiply that by 8 = 1160 Editing Parameters and 200 Function parameters. That’s a lot.

At the rear of each TF1 is a MIDI in and MIDI out socket and a XLR audio output. At the front is a common MIDI in and MIDI out for all 8 modules, so to run in unison, you don’t need a lot of MIDI cables.” Link

“Expand your Yamaha TX816 synth! Here is a single TF1 module, intended to be installed into a TX816 (or TX216) rack which can hold up to eight of these. I pulled this out of a synth with a broken power supply. I tested it in a different synth, and found it to work perfectly.

I have installed a fresh new battery! (I also cleaned up the horrible soldering job the previous owner did…) No need to worry about replacing it any time soon!

Obviously, this module does nothing on its own and requires that you have a Yamaha TX816 or TX216 synth with at least one empty module slot, and that you know how to use the synth. That being said, enjoy! Because these are getting hard to find, I will ship it carefully inside an anti-static protective bag, and with insurance.” Link

The TX816 is a 4 unit high rack which houses a power supply and eight TF1 modules. Each module IS an independent DX7 with 16 note polyphony.

This means that you have the possiblity of 128 note poly, and eight part multitimbrality.

Each module has it’s own midi in/out socket and XLR audio output. There is no stereo master output, so you’ll have to think seriously as to whether this synth is for you.

The sounds are glorious when layered. Yamaha provided factory patches which showed of the synth as a multitimbral sound module, and also composite patches where each module represented a different aspect of a sound.

Well cool, and in my opinion, seriously underrated. ” Link

“Yamaha TX816 with MV-802 Mixer and Cables

This is a rare opportunity to purchase a mint condition TX816 and matching MV-802 mixer with custom cables.

Features:

* This is the full package, and it would be a shame to part it out, so all components go together.
* 8 TF-1 modules, all functional, all with battery voltages above 3V (3.3, 3.4, 3.2, 3.5, 3.5, 3.3, 3.4, 3.4).
* The MV-802 is really meant for the TX816. It usually sits right on top of the unit, and has 8 inputs. The 8 modules are usually panned proportionally from L to R, creating a wall of sound.
* 8 high-quality custom Mogami cables from Psyonic (almost $200 here alone). Qty. 4 at 17″ length, and Qty. 4 at 20″ length. This keeps the TX816 and MV-802 assembly very tight as the cables are just long enough and no longer.

This is a VERY clean system. I’m still amazed at the condition of this unit. You will probably not find one in better condition.

The unit is 100% functional and in excellent physical shape as well as you can see from the photos. It was well maintained in a smoke free home studio” Link

“You are bidding on a Yamaha TX 816 Rackmount FM Synth Module (in essence – 8 rack mounted DX7′s.) The original MSP was $5495 in it’s year of release. (1985) This unit is in very good condition – but has not been used regularly for some time. The unit has normal wear (rack rash and scratches primarily on the top.) It has always been rack mounted in a smokeless, professional studio environment. The unit has been serviced – the power supply replaced as well as several batteries mounted in new clip receptacles. The unit ships with an additional power supply (at times in the past I have noticed an intermittent high pitched sound coming from the OLD power supply) It ships with custom patches that I have used in scoring films. Comments about the sounds : Eight totally independent DX7′s in a rack. Each has 16 note poly which makes for a very BIG sound if you layer all the modules together. The beauty of this instrument is that each DX7 module could be programmed to mimick a different aspect of a sound. When all modules played together, the sounds can be very complex and rich. Especially when detuning each module.” Link
