“When was the last time you played a DX-5? Never?? You think it sounds like a DX-7? If your ears are ready for some serious candy, place your paws on a DX-5! Saying it has so many oscillators and hearing that many oscillators is two different events! Wow is all i can say. I hate to part with this sonic masterpiece. A few scratches here and there. The nicest walnut end caps I’ve ever seen on a DX-5. Will be double boxed.” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.
“Keyboard is in working order … Cosmetic conditions please see pictures.
Come with power cord … No Manual ” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.
“Up for auction is my rather road-weary Yamaha DX-5.
It functions / plays properly and all controls work as they should.
The display’s blue backlight has dimmed from new, but is still quite visible.
This has numerous surface scratches, nicks and blemishes from nearly a quarter century of music.” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.
I’ve just tested the synth and it works perfectly, it’s in great condition except for some scratches on the sides. The top of the keyboard itself is in excellent condition, please look at the pictures for details. Please note I had just cleaned it with a damp cloth, so there is a little damp spot towards the upper middle part, there are no stains anywhere.
I am the second owner, this synth was lightly used by the first owner as a home piano, all presets look original, I don’t think this unit was ever programmed.
I would like to keep it but I need to raise funds.
It comes with a DX voice cartridge (synth brass, #106) and a padded bag.” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.
This is being auctioned off by the original owner. This DX5 never went on tour, was never a ridden hard and left wet studio machine, never was played publicly, and was always a home machine which was re-boxed after each playing. What can I say, it was bought when I was a teen and my parents were terrified to let it out of the case. My mother asked at one point whether I could play it in the case. I am not a rocker, but was a classically trained pianist, so there really was no need for this to ever leave the house for performances.
I have attached a few badly edited videos expressly for the purpose of showing this DX5 is in perfect working condition, how it works, sounds, and how cosmetically factory perfect this DX5 is. The only cosmetic flaw is a very small corner rub on the back right rear corner otherwise this looks and plays as good as the day it rolled off the line. This DX5 deserved more use than the couple hundred hours I played it at home. I specifically selected the DX5 only because it had a very large keyboard, vs what was available on synths back in the 80s.
This DX5 up for auction includes:
* The DX5 pictured
* La Strada/Dego (Anvil style case) – The DX5 will come cased in this case for shipment + I will also crate up the case to maximize protection for the DX5 and minimize any further wear on the case due to shipping.
* 2 (two) Memory cards with 32A + 32B channel voices/sounds for a total of 64 voices/sounds per card. That’s a total of 128 voices/sounds between the two cards (note many of the sounds are the same or similar to dual’up/fatten the sound).
* Volume control pedal
* Sustain pedal which can be used to trigger several functions on the keyboard including sustain.
* Power cable along with the two A & B voice cards.
* Included but not to be considered part of the auction are two accessories which I cannot validate they work; a breath control and an external performance memory card – if you get them to work, consider them as freebies.” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.
“Up for auction is a Yamaha DX5. If you are a fan of the DX series then you know what the DX5 is and how rare they are. This particular unit works very well. No issues. It is a bit “cosmetically challanged” however. It has a fair amount of scrapes and nicks, two buttons have small pieces missing (I’ve included pics of those, but the LED’s for both work very well). We ran it through the full service diagnostic program and everything works well. I’ve included a front-shot of the keyboard so you can see it is level and nick free. The auction also includes the two factory A & B DX1/DX5 ROM carts. These are very hard to find. If you are looking at this, you probably already know all about it so I won’t bore you with a long cut-and-paste page from someone elses website. Also, I don’t believe in over pricing our gear. We are realistic and know that the cosmetic issues will bring the price down, so we have priced it accordingly. If you have any questions about this unit, please feel free to ask. We will do our best to answer them. ” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.
“This DX5 is in excellent condition. This is truly a gorgeous example. The backlight is still nice and bright. All features appear to be working exactly as they should, and this unit sounds great, everything working, and has a very good rigid case to transport it and protect it (retail value $200 !!). No typical surprise post-sale repair bills or serious flaws typical of most vintage gear deals!” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.
” The DX5 is basically a double barreled DX7 – a DX7 squared. It is a six octave synth with two DX7 synth engines.
It is also more fun to use because it has more buttons to play with, a true benchmark of a quality instrument.
Of interest to note it sports three balanced XLR outs in addition to the 3 unbalanced 1/4″ outs – one for each synth engine and a mono mix out.
By looking at the above picture one can easily tell this is one big monster. Produced in the mid 80′s as the replacement to the even bigger DX1 flagship.
Some people say DX5 is noisier than DX7, but The DX5 is NOT noisier than the DX7, quite the opposite!! I have both and I can tell that!
The DX5 has way better D/A converters, way better analog preamps, and XLR balanced outputs.
The DX5 simply sounds magnificent. Needless to say, it has the same thin, bright, and slightly metallic character of the more common DX7
–as it is essentially two DX7s in one unit–but it bears mentioning that the DX5 keeps the DX1′s higher-quality converters, resulting in a noticeably clearer,
less alias-y sound; coupled with the its ability to layer and detune patches, the DX5 can sound considerably lusher than most other FM synthesizers.
It’s in great condition with 2 of those original DX5 ROM cartridges plus extra cartridge containing hundreds of unique sounds, and it comes with a specially-made Anvil case.” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.

” This is an amazing synthesizer! There are not too many synths that compare to this beast. There are some scratches and chips on wood at the corners, but works great and is only cosmetic Overall the synth looks good! Comes with powercord and synth :)” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.
“Here is a PRISTINE Yamaha DX5 FM synth with 32 voices and 2 built in DX7′s ! It shares more similarity however with the DX1 ….It is basically and more affordable version ( the DX5 still sold for £3000 new in 1985 !! YES ! that was the equivilent to at least £20,000 today ! )
…It is built like a tank to the highest standards….SOLID metal construction. They simply don’t make synths of this quality anymore ! It has balanced studio outputs aswell as jack connections…. It has all the great circuitry and pure signal path of the DX1 !
The condition of this particular DX5 is absolutely stunning ! …It has had extremely limited, smoke free home studio use for it’s whole life and functions perfectly ! It has never been gigged …
The display works perfectly with no broken digits or flicker.. ….No significant scratches or dings , just a light scratch on the left end cheek (hardly noticable) and a slight chip to the paint on the bottom left corner that could easily be touched in with the correct colour matched dark brown paint. …there are some very light surface marks in places but you really have to look close for them….It is a TIMEWARP from 1985 !!! it has to be one of the the best examples on the planet ! …True collectors condition !” Auction ended. “This is an auction for a brand new Interlock DX Turbo 1 Memory Expander.
The item is absolutely brand new. I bought it just before they stopped production.
This particular unit is one of the latest being produced..
The DX Turbo 1 Memory Expander is a very rare and essential accessory for anyone who owns a Yamaha DX7, DX5 or DX1.
You may use it to store your programs for live work so you don’t need to drag your computer along, or you may use it to back up your latest sonic creations.
It functions like RAM 1 cartridges and it’s like having 20 RAM 1 cartridges at the push of a button.
It can hold an incredible 20 BANKS of either 32 Sound Memories or 32 Performance Memories for a total of 640 sounds of performances.” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.
“This auction is for a used vintage Yamaha DX-5 Digital FM Synthesizer. This baby has been with me for a short while, mostly using it for granular gritty sounds (especially its famous 80′s Synth Bass sounds), which was a popular use for this synth way back when. This unit has never been gigged and has been cleaned and serviced by me (an A+ Certified Hardware Technician) and works 100%. I also want to mention that this unit is very heavy for a 76 key synth. I don’t really want to give this puppy up, but I will for one who can promise it a good home. These units are quite rare nowadays and are hard to come by. This unit, as stated below, is like having two DX-7′s in one unit, and when you layer the sounds with a slight detune on one, you can get some really fat sounds out of it. The cosmetic condition I would say is about a 6-7 out of 10. The side paneling consists of painted pressure board and is chipped and nicked around the corners. There was some rust around the top of the unit, which I buffed out to the best of my abilities. There are some various scratches on the bottom of the unit. There are two missing toppers to function buttons, but you can still use them with absolutely no issue. Most of these kinds of blemishes are what you expect on a synth of this kind of construction, which are very similar to my DX-7 when I had it. Would touch it up with matching paint myself but I’m not really good with paints None of these blemishes affect the functionality of the unit what-so-ever). The unit comes with a power cord, but no manual.” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.
“UP FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION COMES THIS YAMAHA DX5 DIGITAL PROGRAMMABLE ALGORITHM SYNTHESIZER WITH 2 DX DATA RAM CARDS. THIS UNIT IS STRUCTURALLY SOUND AND IN EXCELLENT WORKING ORDER. THIS UNIT HAS SOME PAINT CHIPS AND IS MISSING A FEW KNOBS (AS PICTURED) BUT THERE IS NOTHING MISSING THAT AFFECTS THE PERFORMANCE OF THIS UNIT. ” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.
“I am a recording musician and purchased the DX5 new from Rhondo music along time ago. I have all original packing materials, pedals, ROM cartridges, manuals(this is a copy) as well as additional ROM sound/cartridge from Red Planet. The keyboard is in near mint condition, there are some scratches in the finish in the usual places. The keyboard is tight and quiet as new, the instrument is built to a level no longer available. All switches, knobs and sliders are noise free and functional, the battery reads strong and the sounds are unmistakeable.” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.
“This is an extremely rareYamaha DX-5 Synthesizer. It has two DX-7 engines which when mixed together add up to a much thicker, warmer and diverse sound than a single DX-7 unit. Add Yamaha’s unique Breath Controller and you can swell a string section over your favorite electric or acoustic piano or punch in a brass section over a swinging clavinet figure…..the possibilities are endless!
I know because I’ ve played this great synth for over 25 years…not this one ….I have a traveling one….one in my studio and this extra one. I’ve used Yamaha’s EX-5 and their Motif but still prefer the DX-5.
This 76 key unit performs perfectly and comes with one plug-in cartridge. The “ivories” are like new. All knobs are there and the battery is at a perfect level. As pictured, there is tape and tape residue on the surface in many places…none of it interfering with function. The corners of the case show signs of wear and an almost matching paint has been applied to them.
The one I currently perform on was purchased new around the early 80′s for approximately $2500…..it has never seen a repair man and since I’ve owned the other two, neither have they. The Dx5 is a heavy workhorse built solid and right. Manuals and cartridges are available on line. The AC power cord is included.” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.

Fair cosmetic condition Includes two prong power cord ONLY. You can probably download the manual online.” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.
