“Rare Yamaha DX5 FM synth. Overall this one is in great cosmetic condition and perfect working order. Beyond minor scuffs, here are the cosmetic issues:
1) Some scratching on the under side (see pics)
2) A slight chip in the corner of one of the side ends
3) On the front panel, there are some “smudges” from the soft case foam sitting on the synth for so long. I tried to capture it in the photo that is taken at an angle. Perhaps these smudges could be cleaned off with the right stuff
This unit comes with a soft case that is functional, but has seen better days… see the pics. The only known operational issue is that one of the led’s on one of the buttons doesn’t light up when you press the button, but this does not affect the functionality whatsoever. I would fix it myself except I don’t want to risk damaging anything on such a nice/rare synth for just a little led.
This unit also comes with two voice ROM cartridges and a power cable.” Link
“The DX5: Beauty and the Beast. Such a refined elegant machine but yet a real BEAST when it comes to sound production. It’s like having two stacked DX7s with a slightly punchier crystalline sound and much easier editing options, plus it comes with a HUGE library of sounds; over 400 in fact, on three included cartridges. One cartridge carries 256 sounds and is extremely rare . . . Tons of effects, instruments, and synthesizer sounds. . . You can play this synth for years. . . I never thought I’d sell it but it came down to an epic battle between the DX5 and my CS60. . . Don’t fret . . . It can be yours now! . . . Everything from SciFi wonderscapes to digital insect sounds to euphoric 80′s synth dreamtones are hidden under the hood of this sleek brown bear. Don’t hesitate before I do and cancel the auction for fear of seller’s remorse . . . It’s in pretty great shape save two minor cosmetic issues: One of the plastic button covers is missing (though button is still functional) and the power cord lost it’s plastic clamp where it meets the case (doesn’t affect perfomance, just means you can’t get drunk and trip full-bore into the power cable or you might hurt something) . . . And of course we have the token surface nicks and scratches, none of which seem too bad . . . “This notch is the time a mechanical flying fish jumped on it as I played softly on the shores of a synthetic ocean . . . This one was when I just bumped it lightly into a doorframe . . .” you know how it goes . . . ” Link
” This is a great keyboard! It comes with 2 original cartridges, the power cord and two original manuals. Everything is in good working order. Small cosmetic chips (refurbished) on the front lower right and back lower right corners (see photos) and minor scratches to the bottom – otherwise it looks REALLY good. It will be professionally boxed and shipped by UPS.” Link

Link
“Yamaha DX-5 in good working condition.
New back light professionally installed.
76 keys. If you want to program FM this is the board to have.
Missing colored tab on one of the function buttons.
Does not affect button’s use.
Some light scratches on panel.” Link

I am the original owner of this DX-5. It has been my favorite for years, but I have too many keyboards and need to get rid of a couple.(if there is such a thing as too many keyboards!) This keyboard in in very clean condition and comes with power cord, the original DX-5 rom cartridges A & B, music stand as shown in the pictures. Some scratches from normal use. I will also include the original owner’s manual and performance notes.
This DX-5 has a rare internal ROM upgrade, which was installed by one of their top techs at the Orange County Yamaha facility, so this is as up to date as possible. Few DX-5s have that upgrade.
Besides combining two DX-7 synths in one package with the improved D/A outputs for less noise, they used the best feeling key bed I have played. As most know, this is a DX1 packed in a smaller package but without the elaborate displays of the DX-1or the weight. The DXs layered creates an incredible fat sound. I still get many comments from people that hear it.
Due to the age, this keyboard is sold as-is. I had it powered up in the pictures and checked all of the controls so I’m sure you would love it as much as I have. I just used it for a concert last week.” Link

“Yamaha DX-5 Fully Working in Average Condition including its Levy’s custom padded Gigbag
Everything works great on this instrument, and the cosmetics flaws are just mostly on the side panels.
It has some dings and marks on each side wood panel.
The front face panel has just a few minor signs of use.” Link
Fully Working in Good Condition
cosmetic condition as see in the pictures” Link
“Fully functional, completely refurbished and redesigned with exotic zebra wood.” Link
“FM synthesizer with dual 6 operator FM voice engines. The two sound sources offer 32 note polyphony and can be split or layered. It has 64 performance memories and 64 voice memories. Unit is in very good condition. Includes manual, foot pedal, original ROM cartridges and 2 RAM cartridges. Will be shipped in the original box.” Link
“keyboard has gotten good use and has scratches. photos are of actual item. In good working condition. tested prior to listing.” Link
“Beautiful rare Yamaha DX-5 for sale. Experience the same vintage FM synthesis as it’s bigger brother the DX-1 at a third of the cost. This unique unit has been redesigned all the way around with african zebra wood for an exotic look and feel, it is gorgeous and fully functional. The DX-5 sound engine is identical to the DX1, with its dual 6-operator FM synth the DX5 is like having two DX7 synthesizers in one, and then some! The DX5 has 64 performance memories which can be loaded or saved to cartridge, while the DX7 has only one manual performance memory. This improves the versatility for live performance and makes excellent use of the dual engines. The DX7 style membrane buttons have been replaced with actual push-buttons with a backlit dual line display. For performances, the DX5 shares the DX1′s bitimbric ability to play two patches from memory (Channel A and B) with the keyboard in layer or split mode.” Link
“See the pictures. It has a chip on the left rear (I meant to paint over that with like colored paint), and some scratches, but fully functional.” Link
” Yamaha DX-5. Very nice shape. Fully functional. ” Link
” This auction is for the legendary Yamaha DX5 Synthesizer. This versatile instrument is a rarity these days and if you do a simple search on its strengths and capabilities, you’ll be impressed. There are also manuals online for free.” Link
“Yamaha DX5 synthesizer in absolutely beautiful original condition. Used in studio since new, never used in live applications. Only very minor wear marks on each front corner tips…no dings, no scratches, all lettering is clear and not rubbed off. All keys work perfectly with no dead or sticky keys. Comes with sustain pedal, power cord, original user manual and performance notes booklet. Also comes with original A,B, and Performance ROM cartridges as well as 4 aftermarket multi-bank ROM cartridges with hundreds of additional voices…all in good working order. These units are rare to begin with…especially one in this condition. Thanks for looking!” Link
“For Sale: Used Yamaha DX5. Includes the DX5, 2 original sustain pedals; 2 original function pedals; factory music stand; voice cartridges A & B; Program cartridge; power cord; original manual; Maartis DX7 patch cartridge; DX7 programing manual and custum Anvil case.
OK, I’ve said on some of my previous listing, that I hate parting with some of them. But this one really hurts.
I am the original owner of this DX5. I special ordered it through Torps Music (now out of business) in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1987. I’ve had it ever since. I used it in a hobby band for about 2 years. After that, it has been in my non-smoking home studio. It is in very good to excellent condition for a vintage/collectible keyboard. All of the keys work fine. All of the buttons and sliders work fine. There are some nicks and scratches on the top and bottom of the keyboard. I’ve inlcuded photos. There is also a chip out of the side panel. This too is shown in the photos.” Link

“This is in USED Condition. This board does have some cosmetic issues but everything works great on the board, but really the cosmetics are just mostly on the side panels. Has some decent, gauges, dings, marks on each side panel of the board. The panels have been touched up with some paint. The front face panel just a has just a few minor dings. Everything works great, doesn’t come with any cartridges or extras. On the left front panel near the mod wheels, you can see its coming up a bit. Again everything works fine on the board and there are no issues. ” Link
“Rare Yamaha DX5 in excellent cosmetic condition, includes original owner’s manual and two-prong power cord. Everything I could test in perfect working order.
This is the mid-end of Yamaha’s DX line, but mid-end hardly describes this wonderful synthesizer. It is a more reasonable version of the awesome DX1 at a fraction of the cost. The DX5 combines two DX7′s for 32 voices compared to16 for the DX7, and it has an excellent keyboard to boot, nothing like the cheap plastic ones that riddled the market in the 80′s.
I have no cartridges or controllers to include, just the original owner’s manual.” Link
“This DX5 is in excellent condition. If it wasn’t for a few scratches on the bender panel and a few other minor imperfections elsewhere, it would be in perfect condition. This is truly a gorgeous example. The backlight is still nice and bright. All features appear to be working exactly as they should, and this unit sounds great. (The pedal jacks, breath controller in and XLR jacks were not tested but we see no reason for them not to work). This sale includes the 2 data cart ROM cartridges (tested and working fine), 1 performance data ROM cart (untested). The memory is present. ” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.
“The is a very clean dx5. The nicest one I have ever seen. Everything is fully functional. It comes with 2 cartridges. It has been recently calibrated and serviced. The battery was replaced.
Cosmetically, the ends have a few minor scratches but the are not splitting like most, the face is shiny with no visible marks from 3 or 4 feet away. Minor abrasions can be seen up close.” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.
“One owner. The Yamaha DX5 is near the top in Yamaha’s venerable and classic DX line, second only to the very rare DX1. It has a 76 note keyboard and since it is like having two separate DX7′s, it has split/layer capabilities, as well as, aftertouch. This keyboard is in good condition and fully working. It comes with: sustain pedal, manual, three factory ROM cartridges (two for sounds and one for performance setups), two Symphony 128 RAM cartridges (each can store four banks of information), power cord, music rack, and original factory demo cassettes. If you are looking to add classic FM synthesis to your rig, this is the one to have!
There are two pieces of velcro on the upper left that were used to hold a piano module. These could probably be removed with a little adhesive remover if they are of no use to you. ” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.
“Great vintage synth. Selling for a bargain price because Channel B is not working – probably just an output transistor, which is a cheap fix. But even with just one channel it’s still a great synth essentially a DX7 with a bigger keyboard. Fix channel B and you can get fancy with layering or splitting of the two synths. All the keys and controls, etc, work great. Some cosmetic wear.” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.
“Hey there! This auction is for a used DX5 Yamaha keyboard. It’s a little on the beat-up side, but everything still works perfectly. The power button cover and one of the fader knobs on the front are missing, but the button and fader themselves work fine. The wooden endcaps are a little chewed up as well (see pictures) and there are some scratches on the front panel. Electronically, however, it seems to be in perfect condition. I don’t know much about these DX5s, but it makes all sorts of awesome noises and just generally sounds great. The DX5 is basically two separate DX7s in a single keyboard, which means it’s a big sucker but sounds AMAZING! This unit ships with a power cord. I have a pdf of the manual I can send you as well, but no hard copy. ” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.
“YAMAHA DX5 SYNTHESIZER
(Includes Yamaha Case)
Synth is in terrific condition.” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.
“Rare and highly desirable little brother of the DX1. Equivalent of 2 DX7s, with 76 note kbd, split/layer and performance memories. Fully working and in excellent cosmetic condition. Has some tiny scratches on the fascia and a larger scratch to the rear on the YAMAHA logo (see pics). The wooden end cheeks have some minor chipping to the edges, as is normal for a 28 year old classic synth.” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.
“This particular unit was clearly used heavily by its previous owner. Cosmetically, the chassis is fairly dinged up, especially the wooden endcheeks, and the B3 key has a small notch in it (which I’ve done my best to represent fairly in the photographs). Functionally, aftertouch is rather unresponsive; however the unit exhibits no other impediments to its usability. I have had a professional technician thoroughly clean all four sliders and the keyboard assembly, and replace a few potentially problematic capacitors. Incidentally the pitch and mod wheels feel smooth and considerably more responsive than most synthesizers of this vintage that I’ve played (including some of Yamaha’s related models).
I’m a little ambivalent about selling this as I am quite fond of it, but I simply haven’t been playing it very often lately, and frankly I could use the money.
Also included in this auction are a soft case, two RAM cards, and a Yamaha sustain pedal.” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.
