“This is a used Akai VX90 Analogue Synth module. It is working well. It has recently been powered up and tested. The only thing wrong with it is that the first 6 patch memory locations do not work. It was like this when I bought it and it never worried me, as there are another 94 which work fine.
I will supply it with the hard to find 2-pin IEC mains lead. You will also get the original manual.
This is a 6 – voice analogue synth module with MIDI. It has an Auto-tune function ( handy with real analogue oscillators ), and a neat feature where you can feed 6 external signals in via a 13 pin DIN socket. This 13 pin DIN socket is designed for use with the S900, S700 or S612, but you could wire it up to a patchbay instead. You’d need a 13 pin DIN plug ( not supplied ) and some cable.
But even if you never use that external input feature, it is still a full 6 -voice polyphonic analogue synth, in a rack, with MIDI.
Great for programming your own sounds. Don’t buy this if you want realistic pianos, brass, strings etc. There are no samples. This is true analogue synthesis.” Link

“This listing is for an AKAI VX-90 Sound Module in EXCELENT condition. I have owned this module for over three years, and bought it from the original owner. All the functions work and all the sounds are functioning as well. The unit has an insert port for an Akai Sampler (s900, s950), allowing you to run the audio out through the Akai’s filters. I have seen people acquire the cables and then wire them into 1/4″ breakout boxes. This allows them to run ANY analog source through the Akai’s filters. As for the filter banks I will include a listing of all the parameters available for edit as listed in the Manual. I will include a full printed manual with the item. It is not the original, but a print of a PDF that I had. If I can locate the PDF for you as well I will include it, but they have been hard to come by. This unit has spent the whole of its time in my possession in a rack unit running on a Furman Power conditioner. There are a few scratches on the top of the unit, but all of which are invisible once installed in a rack.” Link
“It wasn’t that long ago when this item was the best of the best. This module was designed for live performance and has seen a lot of use. Nevertheless, it’s still in good working condition.
It has scratches and marks variously located throughout the metal exterior and is missing ‘output’ knob cover on the front. It also comes with pre-installed rack ears.” Link

This is my AKAI VX-90 analog synth rack module. Everything works as it should. I had it checked out very recently by EARS Music Techs in New York and they gave it a clean bill of health.
There is no manual but you can find the one for the keyboard version online. Programming is a bit of the pain but the filter sounds great” Link

6 voice analog rackmount synth from Akai.
Produced in the late 80′s this synth is a rackmount version
of the AX-73. When used in conjunction with an S612, S900, or S950 sampler,
it allows samples to be processed through the VX90′s filters and envelopes.
There is also a unison mode for stacked sounds suitable for big basses, leads and rave/techno sounds.
This unit was bought from another eBayer and has had no use apart from
testing to ensure it functions. It also has a cable loom fixed to a 1u 19″ rack panel that
splits the voices out into indivdual outs if required.
Cosmetically it is reasonable condition for it’s age with a few dings here and there -
hopefully visible in the photos but overall everything is working perfectly and it is a great little analog polysynth.
There are no rack ears for this but I do have some laying around
they would need re-drilling or the case would to get them to fit.” Link
” Up for sale is an Akai VX-90, sound module version of the AX-73. 6 voices polyphony, this is a fully analog synthesizer module with 6 Vco’s, Vcf’s and Vca’s. Unit has been bought in a distant, lost music store, apparently never been used by anyone (original price tag of 1495.00$ was still on it!) . I removed it from a rackmount, there are some scratches around the rack holes, but the rest is in cosmetically great condition.
I fully tested it, all voices plays in tune and everything is working 100%. This is the third VX-90 I play with, this is the first one I try that has no annoying background noise.” Link

“Hello, I’ve decided to sell my Akai VX90 Rack Synth (http://www.vintagesynth.com/akai/vx90.php) to help pay for some modules for my ever growing modular synthesizer. It is in great condition with some scrape and scuff marks around were it has been racked in a rack (mainly on the top) . This is a midi analog 6 voice polyphonic synthesizer with true VCO’s, not DCO’s, so it sounds big and full, and you can stack and detune the osc’s to get even a larger sound if desired. It, like many synths during that period uses a single slider and inc and dec buttons for data entry. The slider on these units are a bit finicky towards the highest and lowest settings, but I’ve managed just fine on extreme settings by simply using the inc and dec buttons (and that has been very few times). These don’t come up very often and when they do, they get snapped up. I do not have the rack ears for it, but that shouldn’t be too hard for someone to still rack this unit should you want to. ” Link

“Hello, I have decided to sell my Akai VX90 Analog rack 6 Voice Synthesizer. Akai was wise when they made these units…they decided to use true VCO’s not DCO’s and these makes a big difference in how these sound. The VX90 is great at making those big analog brass and string sounds, and it is midi controlled. If you want that warm analog 90′s sound, without taking up much studio real estate like many of the big polysynths do, then this is your answer. This one is in very good condition…the face plate looks great, but the top where you normally won’t see it anyway does have some scuffs and scrapes from being racked. I do not have the rack ears.” Link
