“Hello, I’ve decided to sell my Akai VX90 Rack Synth (http://www.vintagesynth.com/akai/vx90.php) to help pay for some modules for my ever growing modular synthesizer. It is in great condition with some scrape and scuff marks around were it has been racked in a rack (mainly on the top) . This is a midi analog 6 voice polyphonic synthesizer with true VCO’s, not DCO’s, so it sounds big and full, and you can stack and detune the osc’s to get even a larger sound if desired. It, like many synths during that period uses a single slider and inc and dec buttons for data entry. The slider on these units are a bit finicky towards the highest and lowest settings, but I’ve managed just fine on extreme settings by simply using the inc and dec buttons (and that has been very few times). These don’t come up very often and when they do, they get snapped up. I do not have the rack ears for it, but that shouldn’t be too hard for someone to still rack this unit should you want to. ” Link
“On Consignment: from that decade that digital gear started to take over, here is one of the more sophisticated FULL ANALOG beasts, with DIGITAL CONTROL.
**SCREAMIN’ ANALOG LEADS** AND POLYPHONY AVAILABLE WITH MIDI CONTROL
INCREDIBLE COSMETIC CONDITION (stored properly for decades) WORKING PERFECTLY
A surprisingly full-sounding ANALOG synthesizer that is relatively unknown yet deserving of recognition.
SIX FULLY CONTROLLABLE ANALOG OSCILLATORS (TWICE THAT OF A MINIMOOG)
TWO FULLY ANALOG FILTERS, one is 24dB/Oct 4-pole (capable of cutting much deeper than most filters) and has a rare feature allowing the cutoff to be modulated by the VCO.
UNIQUE in that it is full-blooded 6 OSCILLATOR ANALOG SYNTHESIZER equipped with MIDI for easy integration into modern studios.” Link
“Up for auction is a Akai Vx-90.
In good condition.
It does have a some cosmetic issues highlighted in the hi-res photos above
Has had the modification fitted that allows you to run audio input through the filter and envelopes section.
It will come with an external rack and cabling to allow for easy use of the audio input section!
This is an amazingly underrated synth, but I guess it wont stay like that for long.
It features 6 analog voltage controlled oscillators.
Midi controlled with 100 memory slots.
The oscillators never go out of tune thanks to the Auto-tune function.
All six oscilators can be used in Unison, creating super thick Bass/Lead sounds.
Very Sweet Voltage controlled filter.
It will come with an external rack and cabling as you can see below to allow for easy use of the audio input section!” Link
“The VX 90 is a 6 voice analog synth by Akai. This VX 90 is in superb condition. Looks like it has lived a “cared for” life! This synth has the same analog bite as other vintage Akai synths but it comes in a nicer size!!! Rack units are great for small studios!” Link
have owned this for a long time as part of my studio, but due to new comitments its time for some gear to go!
With an identical voice structure to the AX-73, the VX-90 is little more than a rack-mount version. It is a MIDI equipped six-voice analog synthesizer with advanced digital controls and functions. Like the AX-73 it has an auto-tune function and a really nice VCF lowpass/hipass filter and envelope section. The VX-90’s memory capacity holds up to 100 patches. It can be played polyphonically or in a stacked unison mode for that thick lead sound for your rave and techno anthems. A really cool feature of the VX-90 is that you can plug the Akai S-612, S-900 and S-950 samplers in to it and run their samples through the VX-90’s analog filter and envelope sections.” Link
“Hello, I have decided to sell my Akai VX90 Analog rack 6 Voice Synthesizer. Akai was wise when they made these units…they decided to use true VCO’s not DCO’s and these makes a big difference in how these sound. The VX90 is great at making those big analog brass and string sounds, and it is midi controlled. If you want that warm analog 90’s sound, without taking up much studio real estate like many of the big polysynths do, then this is your answer. This one is in very good condition…the face plate looks great, but the top where you normally won’t see it anyway does have some scuffs and scrapes from being racked. I do not have the rack ears.” Link
