The unit was recently serviced : all the 28 knobs were changed for brand new knobs (best replicas around, made by technology transplant). Further, the unit interior/electronics was cleaned and inspected to make sure everything is in great condition.
Further, this TR-909 is unique due to a little modification that, as far as I know, has never been seen elsewhere : the ride tune parameter range is roughly 5 times larger than on the original unit. The unit is capable to downpitch the ride tune way lower than the original, resulting in realy cool tonal possibilities for that ride. Basically, the original range is like now from 8 to 10 on the new knob, so from 1 to 8 the downpitched ride generates really cool metallic grainy textures,

So, it’s a TR-909 in very good condition. All the outputs work perfectly, buttons knobs as well so no crackling there when tweaking. Sonically immaculate.
Cosmetically, as you can see from the pictures the panel colors have faded a bit but it’s a 25yr old machine, so no surprises there… There’s a strip of tape on the top, describing the audio outputs on the back panel. That can be of course removed.

“For sale is my used TR-909. It is in very good cosmetic condition for it’s age though it does have one ding on the front panel (see photo) which does not affect its play-ability/ functionality. Everything works fine; buttons knobs. Some buttons are a little ‘sticky’, so you have to push them a little harder than normal. Perhaps contact cleaner would do the trick. This is a 220v model so it does come with a transformer for the US. “If you are looking at this then you probable already know what this machine is. I do not need to go into any further explanation. I hate to part with my beloved TR-909 but I have other interests that I am pursuing now. Some brief history. I am the second owner of this TR-909. I bought it back in 1999 off a guy who had it sitting in a closet in the original box unused it was brand new untouched in the box. It is still in the same excellent condition when i bought it. I take really good care of my gear. The TR-909 has been used in a smoke free studio and has been sitting on my ulitimate support stand in my studio. There is only one minor scratch and you can see that in the picture that I show the “909.” This TR-909 has no scratchy pots it is fully functional. It is running version 4 EPROM that fixes a known midi time fix in the earlier versions.

This Roland TR-909 Rhythm Composer Serial #: 381844 is in great overall condition considering it’s age. I am the second owner and it has been lovingly cared for in my non-smoking home studio. All buttons and knobs are in good working order. A few of the knob pots are scratchy and could use cleaning. Cosmetically the machine is in good condition, there are a couple of very small nicks on the plastic end caps and a couple of spots where adhesive or stickers once were that show slight variations in the faceplate finish. “Serial number 415 4xx, so it’s one of the later models and shouldn’t have any trouble syncing up and all that. Sounds great of course, and i tried some basic pattern writing without any trouble. The 16 step buttons are all working well, but i had to press the ‘pattern play’ ‘pattern write’ buttons a couple of times ocassionally to get them working. Didn’t really worry me though.
All the drum sounds are playing well, and individual tone/volume knobs all work smoothly without noise.

Physically, I think you’ll agree this machine is very clean. You can find a few minor blemishes as I tried to show in the detailed photos below, but overall a very clean piece! The machine is 100% functional. Everything works including all of the individual outs which I just tested. The pots are good and all of the sounds are loud and clear. Most of the knobs have no static whatsoever. 2 or 3 of the knobs have a bit of dust/crackling when turned on the lower range of the knob from not being used in a while. Why am I selling it ?
To be honest I don’t really want to, but I haven’t used it for years now, it’s gathering dust and guess what? I need the cash.
So there it is.
It has been gigged a LOT so expect some dents and scratches, one of the 16 step buttons disappeared a few years back
so I replaced it with a new button sold by Chip for Brains here on Ebay unfortunately the color is not quite right, mine have yellowed a bit with age
so button 1 looks very gray, a bit clean and crisp in comparison to the others.
Yeah yeah, it’s been in a smokey studio ( I’m really not trying to sell this am I ?)
I can’t claim to have had it in a beautiful pristine environment all it’s life like other Ebayers will pretend ( I mean, come on, it’s over 20 years old! )
but I don’t smoke any more and my studio has always been very clean and it’s been looked after as best I could have looked after it, but I’m no angel.
But, I tell you what, oh boy, it works. And once you have a go on the 16 step sequencer and get into some real-time step pattern writing you’ll be hooked. It sounds beautiful, no pot crunches, all the buttons and individual outputs work, everything works, full stop.
Dubstep, Grime, Hip Hop, Techno, House you name it this machine will stamp it’s authority all over your chosen music, so watch those speakers!!

This machine is in EXCELLENT CONDITION! Fully fucntionable, one of the greatest sounding drum machines ever made. Regarded as The Moog of the Vintage Analog Drum Machines. I dont want to let this machine go for such a low price, but I NEED THE CASH! I know this machine will go up in value in a short time(vintage and rare).
The condition is excellent, not even any big noticeable scratches, dents, gashes nor dings. Only superficial signs of use if any at all (maybe a few light scratches here and there for the anal types).
The only thing cosmetically wrong with it is that the upper 1/3 of the panels’ face has been polished and wet-sanded with a fine grit auto finishing sandpaper (how car restorers polish cars). So the “Roland”, “Rhythm Composer” and “TR-909″ logos and words have been polished away too. This is due to a sharpie signature from an 80′s artist that had to be removed (I got it like that). The cleanest way to remove the 20+ year old set-in signature was by polishing her off. No over the counter stain, paint or marker remover worked well. Wet-polishing proved to be the cleanest way to remove the signature.
Fully working. It’s from my bedroom studio which I hardly use and only make stuff once in a while for hobby and fun. All buttons, knobs, led lights work. Other than that, the Kick/Bass drum needs to be warmed up for maybe 10-15 minutes for every kick to hit. It hits right away where programmed or when played live upon start up, but maybe about 5-10% of kick hits miss, until it warms up fully…just like any other analog drum machine or synthesizer. Analogs need to warm up. All the other instruments hit 110% upon start up and don’t really need a warm up. So the kick just might need a simple cap replacement; but, a simple warm-up is all she really needs and she is good to go.

“The classic House/Techno/Electro drum machine. The 909 is a strong/hard hitting analog drum machine. Samples do not do it justice, especially since you can tweak songs as it plays.
This 909 is in amazing condition. There are a few LIGHT scratches on the casing that are barely noticeable. The case, knobs and jacks are perfect. See the pictures.
Functionality is 100% except when I was playing it to ensure that fact, I was rocking too hard on the #5 button (Tom) and the pad to the contact shifted, so you will have to reset it. It’s fairly easy to do, you just have to open it up and remove the main board which takes a little time because of all the screws, then place it on the contact again. Easy. Seriously, it’s a minor and simple repair. I just don’t have the time.
Otherwise everything works as it should, and sounds beautiful. The knobs are smooth. The outputs are clean.

“It’s a shame about those streaky marks on the top, or otherwise i could say this is mint. Not sure what’s going on there. Looks like someone tried to do the ironing on it, or put it under the toaster for a bit. They’re just light surface marks though, and i have been using this machine for over a year without issues. Actually, i’m in love with it. Will be a shame to sell it, but i can hopefully find another one some day.
As you can see from the photos, apart from those streaky marks on top, it is in really clean and good condition. I haven’t tested out exactly 100% of all functions, but everything i have tested has worked perfectly. No sticky buttons or anything like that either, which make programming a real joy.
