For sale is a classic Roland drum machine from the ‘80’s. They actually call it a Rhythm Composer … J I never really used this piece of gear very much and it was in storage for quite some time. I pulled it out the other day, hooked it up to the PA system, and BINGO! It still has a great sound. I just don’t have a use for it … what with some of the other gear I’ve acquired more recently.

I had this built by the Dave Cranmer (THE NERVOUS SQUIRREL) after watching this video for just over £600:
He only used six patch combinations in the video, but there are literally thousands to explore.
The box has MIDI in and out, and a switch to route the drum machine’s audio signal through a ‘voice modulator’ section, which has pitch and LFO controls.
I have labeled very simply the basic buttons/knobs but if you know them well you can easily remove these! But they are handy to familiarize initially.
I am reluctantly selling this.

Box is a bit tatty now as has been knocking around in a cupboard for the last quarter of a century!
Sounds are cut down versions of the TR707 and very usable. I Belive the samples are 12 bit and are a mixture of Drums and some Latin percussion sounds taken from the TR727.
Battery compartment does not seem to work any more – possibly due to batteries being left in for a long time. Unit powers up and sounds all work.

“Hier gibt es eine sehr schöne modifizierte TR 505 im Vintage-look mit Holzseitenwangen zu ersteigern.
Das Gerät hat Einzelausgänge als 6,3mm Klinke und Triggerausgänge als 3,5mm Klinke verpasst bekommen. Diese sind an der Rückseite in ein Blech aus gebürstetem Aluminium angebracht und auch vernünftig beschriftet.
Gerade die Triggerausgänge sind für Leute, die z.B. ein Modularsystem oder ähnliches besitzen, sehr interessant, da mit ihnen Hüllkurve, Sequencer und ähnliches angesteuert werden können. Die Einzelausgäge erlauben es dann auch endlich einzelne Instrumente separat mit Effekten zu versehen oder zu EQ-en… da kann man sich mal so richtig austoben und dem kleinen Kerl ungeahnten Druck entlocken.
Praktischerweise agiert das Gerät auch als MIDI-to-Triggert-Converter! Die Midi-implementation der TR 505 ist recht umfangreich, der Sequencer leicht zu programmieren, was auch mit dem übersichtlichen und großen Display zusammenhängt. Alles in allem macht es sehr viel Spaß mit dem Ding zu spielen!
Auf der Gehäusefront sind 16 neue Drehregler untergebracht, diese sitzen ebenfalls auf einem beschrifteten Frontblech aus gebürstetem Aluminium:
Da sind zunächst die Volumepotis, diese erlauben es die einzelnen Voices separat in der Lautstärke zu regeln (Rim und Clap sind zusammen gefasst, genau so wie die Toms und die Timbale, die offene und geschlossene HiHat, das Ride und die Crash).
Gleichzeitig kann man über diese Potis den Sound auch etwas “anzerren”: In der 12-Uhr-Position ist das Maximum an Lautstärke erreicht, weiteres Drehen nach rechts bewirkt eine zunehmende Übersteuerrung der internen Mischerstufe. Dies gibt den Sounds nochmal mehr Druck und Schmutz! Um dieses Verhalten auch haptisch zu unterstreichen wurden Volumepotis mit Mittenrastung auf 12 Uhr gewählt.
Die Einzelausgänge sind von den Volumepotis unabhängig, d.h.: der Sound kann an den Einzelausgängen abgegriffen werden und liegt parallel an beiden Masterausgängen an. Der dazu gehörige Volumepoti beeinflusst nur die Lautstärke im Masterausgang, nicht im Einzelausgang – da dieser naturgemäß ja an einen Kanal im Mischpult angeschlossen wird (und vorher vielleicht noch durch diverse Effekte geschickt wird).
Die anderen 8 Potis regeln die Tonhöhen der Sounds. Dies ist in einem weiten Bereich möglich – zur Erinnerung: im unmodifizierten Zustand ins keinerlei Klangregelung an der TR 505 möglich!
Dies wurde durch das hinzufügen von 8 neuen internen Oszillatoren ermöglicht, mit denen sich nun die Abspielgeschwindigkeit der Sound steuern lässt. Der Pitch kann in einem weiten Bereich geregelt werden und der Effekt reicht von bitgecrunchtem Lofi zu hochgepitchten Zippersounds. Die “normalen” TR 505 Sounds sind natürlich ebenfalls immer noch “reindrehbar”. Da sich die Resultate etwas von dem unterscheidet was man bei anderen Geräten unter “Pitch” versteht, sind die Drehregler mit “Warp” bezeichnet.
Es ist naturgemäß schwierig den Sound zu beschreiben, deshalb gibt es hier ein paar Samples, die einen kleinen Überblick über die Möglichkeiten der Maschine geben. Alle Samples sind “dry” aufgenommen, d.h. kein EQ-ing und keine Effekte wurden verwendet.

Die Modifikationen entstanden auf der Basis von Burnkit2600 (googlen) und sind getestet und bewährt.
Alles in Allem ist dieses eine sehr interessante Drumbox mit massig Möglichkeiten. Schon mal darüber nachgedacht die Crash extrem tief zu stimmen, durch einen Filter im Modularsystem zu schicken, und mit dem Triggerausgang der Crash gleichzeitig einen EG-Generator zu triggern, welcher den Filter sweept?
Selbst als reiner Triggersequencer ist diese 505 extrem gut geeignet!
Zum Lieferumfang gehört das originale Handbuch. Ich gebe ausserdem noch die zum Betrieb notwendigen Batterien hinzu. Sie können die TR 505 auch mit einem handelsüblichen 9V-Netzteil betreiben.” Link
“A classic beatbox from Roland in very good condition. Has some usage marks, a small scratch below the the #13 pad and some residue from what seems to be tape on the top and back. Needs a little cleaning. This unit has been modified to accept a circuit board that provides individual outputs. You can see the outputs on the back panel in the images. Some sounds are shared on the same output, but the kick and snare have their own outs. The output jacks are 1/16″. Included are 4 – 1/16″ to RCA cables. The modification was an after market option offered by another company not Roland. Unfortunately there is no power supply or manual, but I installed batteries and it does work. ” Link

Teile gefunden die so langsam in den Ecken verstauben. Da ich sie nicht gebrauche, kommen sie hier nun unter
den Hammer.
Dabei war auch dieser Kult Drumcomputer aus den 80 zigern. Ich hab ihn gerade einfach mal an meinen Gitarrenverstärker
angeschlossen und ein bisserl auf den Pads gespielt. Es waren fette 80 Jahre Sounds zu hören. Das Gehäuse sieht
ziemlich gebraucht aus. Vll sollte der nächste Besitzer das Ding komplett putzen 
. Ob das Ding ne Speicherbatterie
hat, die vll gewechselt werden muss weiss ich nicht. Midi hab ich auch nicht ausprobiert, da mir dazu die Kabel
fehlen. Netzteil und Bedienungsanleitung sind dabei. Batteriebetrieb ist möglich. Allerdings waren in den letzten 15
Jahren wo da Ding hier rumlag die gleichen Baterien drinne und die Bateriekontakte sind sehr stark korrodiert (grün).
Wenn jemand das Teil mit Baterien betreiben möchte müsste ein Bastler das Ding öffnen und die Kontakte überholen.

“1. Ausstattung
Die 505 ist ein auf Samples basierender Drumcomputer mit integriertem Sequencer. Die Samples Sind eine Kick, Snare, Hihats(Open/Closed), Ride Cymbel, Crash becken, Bongos(Hi/Lo), Congas(Hi/Lo), Toms(Hi/Mid/Lo).
2. Klang
Die Samples sind wie eben mitte der achziger noch üblich in niedriger Samplerate und flacher Bit tiefe. Das qualitativ mit heutigen Standards gemessen hart gesagt Müll. Jedoch mit einigen Kompressoren und Nachbearbeitungen lassen sich die Sounds als EInzel-Sample oder nach der Aufnahme eines Song noch zurecht biegen. Stand-Alone kann ich die 505 nicht wirklich empfehlen.
3. Der Sequencer
Der Sequencer ist bei mir gar nicht mehr im einsatz. Da ich die TR-505 nur noch über MIDI und Cubase steuere. Aber als ich ihn noch einsetzte merkte man ihm das alter an… er ist um einiges umständlicher wie der Sequencer der Electribes oder TR-909 und war für mich dann recht schnell passé.” Link
