The Source was first produced in 1981 and sold throughout the 80’s. It has been used by many artists and groups, such as Blur, The Cars, New Order, Phish, and King Crimson. This particular model has a serial number of 2067. It has been tested out by our techs (minus the cassette interface) and given a clean bill of health. As it is used it has cosmetic damage, but nothing that affects its playability or operation.” Link

The Moog Source is a monophonic analog synthesizer manufactured in New York USA in 1981. It has two real VCO ! A programmable arpeggiator, a sequencer, a 24 db/octave filter with cutoff, Res, two ADSR envelope , A LFO, cv / gate input …
The Moog Source has 16 memory locations, in fact it is the first MOOG to integrate patch memory storage !
The sound of the Source is really MOOG, the sound is very close to a Minimoog Model D despite an oscillator in less. The sound is very thick. The arpeggiator is also quite interesting, because programmable leaving the basic UP and Down patterns style … The Moog Source is currently used by the group ”Air” on their album and 2010 tour. Bands like Depeche Mode, Will I.Am of Black Eyed Peas, Clark (warp records) also use the MOOG SOURCE…The Moog Source sell here is in good cosmetic condition with just some scruff on the metal, but you see it a lot more on the pictures than in reality. And this Moog Source is in perfect condition (completely revised).If you’ve got questions, feel free to ask me ” Link

If you are looking at this item you will be fully aware of how incredible this synth is. The source has been a key part of my collection for many years but unfortunately needs to be sold to finance other ventures. The unit is in great condition with only a few superficial scratches from general use. The source is in full working order and sounds amazing. This unit was imported from the states many years ago and ships with a step down convertor. I am hating listing this item sooooooo much as I really love it.” Link

If you’re looking for FAT bass sounds and a great arpeggiator/sequencer, then you need this. those famous monophonic Moog sounds are inside this synth which has two fat analog oscillators and the legendary 24 dB Moog filter (so powerful!). It also boasts 16 memory locations so you can save and recall your synth patches. Parameters are edited not with hands-on sliders and knobs but by assigning a selected parameter to the dedicated data wheel. It uses a US power supply (included) so you’ll need a power converter in europe.” Link

Everything is functional. It has the rare DIN Sync feature that was available in later models which allows you to synchronize the onboard sequencer and arpeggiator with other DIN Sync compatible devices. It has had the “Crazy Source” problem fixed, and has the “Octave 0″ modification which automatically selects the lower octave when powered on. All of the wood trim is in excellent shape and the membrane panel works perfectly. It is clean inside and out. This is a wonderful instrument to play and I have hesitated many times before putting it up for auction. However there are just too many new things I’d like to have and it’s time to let this one go to someone who will appreciate playing a vintage instrument like this one. An IEC power cord is included.” Link

Serial #: 236x. Made in Buffalo, NY, USA.

This Source is in great condition and functions 100%. Membrane switches are very positive and reliable. Colors on the membrane and graphics are unfaded and crisp. The keys are even with no cracks or scratches. Brushed aluminum surfaces have some light scratches…mostly it’s the lacquer coating on the aluminum that scratches off easily leaving light discolorations here and there. The wooden side panels and wooden keybed trim are in beautiful shape.

I love the Source as a performance instrument…it’s like having a Minimoog with patch memory but is lighter and generally more stable. This is especially true if you only need to tweak one or two parameters (24db Moog filter!) in real time, although you quickly learn to program and tweak on the fly with the endless rotary knob which is easy/fast to use with practice. It is especially wonderful (and famous) as a bass synth but it can provide delicate, musical timbres for pads/leads as well as warm raw phatness. A nice use of the patch memory involves saving subtle evolving changes or pitch (key) changes that can be strung together live to form song sections. ” Link

“This is my Moog Source, which I bought new in 1984 at Goodman Music in North Hollywood. I used it with a Moog Taurus II controller bass pedalboard (awesome set-up), so you could play key bass on the Source or on the bass pedals with your feet which I am an expert at ☺ (B-3 player). This cosmetically is in good condition for it’s age, with a nice straight keyboard but the unit overall is not mint. There’s some oxidation & scratches on aluminum parts and the wood is o.k. to good with no chips, although there are scratches on the wood but nothing major. The membrane (or switch edit panel) is in very good condition because I only programmed the 16 bass sounds and left it, with only minor modification now & then.

This works great but there’s an idiosyncrasy that I want to mention, but they can be quite common if you’re a vintage Moog user. When you first turn it on, before it’s warmed up, it sometimes it goes into a strange edit mode(occasionally it doesn’t do it at all). If you wait 5 or 10 minutes while it warms up and turn it off, then turn it on again, it’s ready to play with all operation as normal. it’s done that for about 15 years. Anyway it will take 5 or 10 minutes for the tuning to stabilize, which is common with all vintage Moogs and other old synths as well. Of course there is a tuning knob on the back of unit to tune it to your other instruments or A440 concert pitch. I imagine all the other functions work on this such as the sequencer, sample and hold, etc but I never used it in that capacity, mainly for bass sounds which are the most awesome fat bass sounds on the planet. This does come with 16 of my programmed bass sounds so enjoy!

This comes with original owner’s manual and a full set of schematics and technical service information (very important). Also comes with power cord & nice Warwick Rockbag (soft case –see photo), which has some padding and can get you by if you’re careful. I’m just throwing it in because it seems to fit OK. I’ve always moved it in a anvil case which I got rid of years ago. I will miss this dearly, but I have a rack mount Novation Super Bass Station to power the Taurus pedals.

This will be double boxed and well padded for shipping, but please keep in mind that shipping vintage electronics has its risks in extreme cold temperatures, like the snow they’ve been having across the country. If you’re local in California, pick-up is available.” Link

Basically this is a programable Mini-Moog. Incredible, REPEATABLE bass sounds.I had a checkup done a few years back and replaced a few circuits that were questionable including a new Incremental control. I opened up the unit today and reseated all of the IC’s and it tunes great now! Everything seems to be in order. There is a faint high pitched noise when plugged in to a guitar amp but that’s a much higher gain than a line input. I played it all morning and all the keys work great and the touch panel works properly.Super flat keybed!

“I have found that when I state clearly in my descriptions that items are scratched and battered, oddly they reach really good prices. I’m guessing this is because I demonstrate honesty by doing this. I can’t do that with this auction, because there are hardly any scratches on this pristine and beautiful Moog Source. The woodwork is brilliant, the metal facia is wonderful and the keyboard looks great. The membrane is all working 100% and there are no poor contacts so I’ve done my best, I’ve tried to describe this as honestly as I can.

The Moog Source hardly ever comes up on ebay so this is a RARE opportunity to buy one. Make the most of it because I only really see 2 or 3 of these in a year if you are lucky.

Everything functions perfectly and the tuning is good. Some of the bouncy bass sounds you can generate with this synth are fabulous. I sat some months back playing the bass line to the 80s hit ‘A.E.A.E.I.O.U’ by Freeze and just laughed because it was so convincing. It kind of shows how sad I am that I was able to entertain myself by sitting with a Moog source playing this riff for ages and laughing at how good it was but it really was good.

The oscillators can be detuned to create rich thick textures and of course this synth is pretty famous not only for its fat bouncy bass sounds but also its epic lead synth sounds.

The value control, a spinning wheel, works nicely and spins smoothly and the increment changes are accurate when spinning the wheel.

This is the version with 16 memories and does not have a midi kit built in though it is easily possible to have this fitted with a midi kit for little more than £135.” Link

“The Moog source is a really great synth with a major problem: The membrane panel often malfunctions and makes it unusable,It’s my experience that attempted repairs only last for a short time if at all – just long enough to sell it on ebay perhaps!.Replacements are almost impossible to find.It took me 2 years to find one !

This source has a brand new membrane panel which works perfectly and should continue to do so for the lifetime of the synth. All the other blue bits are new too!

This source is fully serviced and calibrated. It is in good condition for its age, it is not mint so if you prefer to put your synths in glass cases this may not be for you , if however you want to play -read on.,There are some marks to the lacquering on the metal as you can see in the photos. Every Moog source I have seen has this. The metal can be easily refinished .

Everything works perfectly and it really does sound great by any standards. its the most Moog-like Moog after the MiniMoog but with the big big plus of memories.Battery is fine. Like many analogue synths particularly Moogs it takes around 5 minutes warm up time for the tuning to stabilise from cold.After that its fine and stable
I find the membrane panel surprisingly good to use for real time control.Comes with photocopy of owners manual.” Link

This source has a brand new membrane panel which works perfectly and should continue to do so for the lifetime of the synth. All the other blue bits are new too!

This source is fully serviced and calibrated. It is in good condition for its age, it is not mint so if you prefer to put your synths in glass cases this may not be for you, if however you want to play -read on.,There are some marks to the lacquering on the metal as you can see in the photos. Every Moog source I have seen has this. The metal can be easily refinished .

Everything works perfectly and it really does sound great by any standards. its the most Moog-like Moog after the MiniMoog but with the big big plus of memories.Battery is fine.
I find the membrane panel surprisingly good to use for real time control.Its not as flexible as the Pro -one but it sounds better.comes with photocopy owner manual.’ Link

This is the one you’ve been waiting for. Grab it while you still can! Included is the original manual, schematics, technical docs, and patch sheets.

The Source is a combination Minimoog and Taurus Pedals along with programmable patch storage capabilities. Unlike today’s modern Moogs (Little Phatty and Voyager) it has the authentic Minimoog sound as well as the paint peeling, bone rattling bass of the Taurus Pedal. Also packed into this monster is a sequencer and arpeggiator which adds a whole new dimension to your performances.

This particular machine has seen minimal use and has been stored in a climate controlled, non-smoking studio. She has been waiting for nearly 30 years for someone to explore and electrify her analog circuitry. Now is your chance!” Link

Serial Number 3905. I am the original owner.
Comes with power cord and Technical Service Manual, which has schematics and calibration info. No owners manual.
This is an excellent example of this classic synth.

Works perfectly, Exc condition, has new membrane switches from ebay member chipforbrains (Technology Transplant), who specializes in reproducing parts for old synths.

They made reproduction Source membrane switch pads for a while, but I have not recently seen them offered. This switchpad is an exact replacement and is sturdier than the original. It works perfectly. (the original pad had several bad membrane switches, which is a common problem with the original switch pads.) There is no advantage to buying a Source with the original pads.

Everything is fully functional, including the sequencers

This unit has been recently cleaned and calibrated. No tuning issues.

Some minor cosmetic issues, which can be seen on pictures. Nothing drastic. Also note additional screw holes on bottom, which are there because of having been moved from original position due to mounting screws being directly fastened to wood sides. Cosmetic imperfections do not affect performance. Bottom panel is firmly affixed to side panels.” Link

“Here’s your chance to get that big, fat, classic Moog in your collection. This is The Source from Moog, probably circa the early 1980’s (serial number: 2418).

Please note that I am selling this unit AS IS. I will state to the best of my abilities what works and what does not work here so that you know what you’re getting into.

What works:
–all keys.
–pitch wheel
–mod wheel
–octave buttons
–incremental control wheel
–all LED displays

What doesn’t work:
–the memory system (may be bad battery)
–the volume knob
–some of the oscillator controls

When powered up, all the keys work and I can change the filters, KB trigger, envelopes, etc. But, I’m getting a continuous tone output not related to pressing a key and the oscillator output/mix controls don’t seem to be working any more. Volume control does not work at all.

I started to investigate how to repair before selling, but I don’t have the time to mess with it. So, please be aware that this unit will need some attention to get it back to perfect working order.

Back when it was working perfectly, it did in fact deliver that classic Moog tone that I bought it for…” Link

Except for a few scratches on the wood sides, it is in excellent condition. Everything works as if it was new. None of the pots are scratchy, and the mod wheels are smooth. Only two owners since new, I bought this synth in 1985. It has (2) oscillators that can be tuned independently with four tone sizes and four filters, full ADSR capability, midi compatible. It has 12 memory banks for storage and playback, and a 100 note appregiator. Return is okay if not satisfied.” Link

The touch pad still functions completely without any problems. This is a monophonic synthesizer that has fat low ends and shrilling leads. Unfortunately for myself, I am not much of a keyboard player and am parting with this unit due to the fact that I’m not very good at this particular instrument. Since I am not a keyboard player, this unit has been used a very minimal amount of times. I am selling this unit with the intention of buying another guitar amplifier more suited for my current music project. I will try to field questions as best as I know, but unfortunately my knowledge on these units at times are limited. What I can tell you is that each individual touch pad and roller works like it just came from the factory. Never tested the cassette settings, but I would bet it works flawlessly. This unit comes with a soft travel case unit to house the instrument. Does not have a hardshell travel case.” Link

1 x Moog The Source

1 x Klinkenkabel

1 x Netzkabel

natuerlich die Bedienungsanleitung in English (leicht zu verstehen)

Beachten Sie bitte,daß es sich hier um eine Privatauktion handelt, daher keine Garantie, Gewährleistung noch Rücknahme.” Link

Every function on this synth works perfectly. I have had it for a while and have not used it that much. I just did a cleaning of the inside and everything looks very good in side. All the keys function perfectly. Just did a recording with it and the sound is amazing. I love the flexibility of using the main controller to change the parameters. Sample and hold is excellent and the arpegiator is excellent. The 16 presets right above the keys work so perfectly and musically its amazing especially combining these with the octave buttons it’s great for performance. There are a few scratches and dings but overall it is in very good condition.” Link
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 336px; height: 400px;" src="http://www.synthfind.com/wp-includes/images/bp3/_3XEPSfq-tHU/SpxIp25NGGI/AAAAAAAAMk4/_E3mF3aAoDc/s400/moogsource_2.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5376251939120814178" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://www.synthfind.com/wp-includes/images/bp2/_3XEPSfq-tHU/SpxIpWjed7I/AAAAAAAAMkw/f8htuWVkm-0/s400/moogsource_3.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5376251930439743410" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 224px;" src="http://www.synthfind.com/wp-includes/images/bp4/_3XEPSfq-tHU/SpxIpAr9qCI/AAAAAAAAMko/bBqmXeWCUO0/s400/moogsource_4.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5376251924569761826" />

This neat vintage synth by Moog is The Source, but it looks like it will need some work before it will work correctly. First off, the screws are out and missing from the bottom panel, so you’ll have to be careful handling the unit, but all the internals look to be in there, with all the IC’s still in place, the keyboard here and all the interior PC boards and the components there. When I power up the unit, it lights, with the light on the modulator blinking and the display ready u7. When I hook up the synth to an amp and press the keys, I do hear a very low sort of thump coming out of the amp when I press each key, so this sucker can’t be too far from functional. When examining the circuit boards, I see one area with some whiteish “stuff” on it, so there may have been something spilled in this area or it may just be some kind of oxidation (see photos below). Since the synth will need some work, I’m selling it “as is” with a crazy low reserve. ” Link
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://www.synthfind.com/wp-includes/images/bp4/_3XEPSfq-tHU/SpJ1A6ako6I/AAAAAAAAMHc/5xTIZUSesig/s400/source.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5373485963947582370" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 254px;" src="http://www.synthfind.com/wp-includes/images/bp2/_3XEPSfq-tHU/SpJ1ARSkuTI/AAAAAAAAMHU/5IwrJcGpvyA/s400/moogsource.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5373485952908179762" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 221px;" src="http://www.synthfind.com/wp-includes/images/bp1/_3XEPSfq-tHU/SpJ1AKoknII/AAAAAAAAMHM/2M2vbQQrwDM/s400/MOOG6.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5373485951121398914" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 276px;" src="http://www.synthfind.com/wp-includes/images/bp4/_3XEPSfq-tHU/SpJ0_3y0BWI/AAAAAAAAMHE/7OywNnMyjVI/s400/MOOG7.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5373485946064078178" />
