Roland, SH-101 @ 28 August 2011, “No Comments”

“This listing is for a Roland SH101 vintage analogue monophonic synthesiser.

This particular synth received a professional service in March of this year, and is in absolutely perfect condition.
All functions work perfectly, no crackle from any of the potentiometers or faders. All keys work, and it sounds absolutely fantastic.

Cosmetically, again the synth is in remarkably good condition. There are a couple minute scratches along the bottom edge of the case (see pictures below), but aside from that it is cosmetically perfect.

The battery cavity and contacts are clean and show no signs of corrosion. The only slight damage is to the battery cover. One of the 2 clips which hold the cover in place has gone missing. However the cover does not come loose as a result of this.” Link

“Up for auction is my Roland SH-101 Synthesizer With MOD Grip and Boss power supply. The synthesizer is 100% functional, no missing knobs or sliders. As you can see from the pics it is in terrific condition, and there is only a very small ding on the raised plastic by the power button. It has been in my closet for the past 5 years, I turned it on and all the keys fire, no audio scratchiness, sequencer works, sliders all work, battery compartment is clean, and most importantly this stays in tune with no drift. Bid with confidence, I have been selling gear over the past 8 years, and my feedback will only show that I am honest. This is vintage gear and is being sold as is, but will guarantee not DOA. ” Link

“RARE absolutely MINT condition Blue Roland SH-101 Synth with Mod Grip (for those of you who like rocking out). I’m the original owner, but just figure its time to downsize some gear. Killer bass sounds! enjoy!” Link

“You are bidding on a used Roland SH-101 Synthesizer in excellent condition.
All of the functions work, and there are no major scratches or dings on any part of it.
The battery box has no corrosion in it, but there is a chip in the plastic on the cover, as seen in the photo.
There is also a knob missing on one of the controls, which can be seen in picture number 3.
This auction does not include the AC wall adaptor, batteries, bag, or grip.” Link

“You are bidding on a used Roland SH 101 synthesizer. Originally manufactured in 1983, this synth is in great shape!

All the keys are functional. All the faders and rotary pots work. Also, I just had the modulation wheel fixed, so it’s completely working. All the CV ins and outs work as well as the pedal input, and I had the synth considerably cleaned (inside and out).

This is a fully analog synthesizer from 1983. There is no MIDI, and there is no way to save a preset (aside from writing the parameters on a sheet of paper).

Only real cosmetic damage is the scratch on a few keys (see pics) and a few dinks on the sides. The battery case is intact as well!” Link

“Thanks for looking at this listing of a genuine Vintage Roland SH101. It is in perfect working order but we have mislaid the mains lead. We have tried it with another lead and its fine. We have had it from from brand new and is therefore in very good condition. ” Link

Up for sale is this used Roland SH-101 Analog Monophonic Synthesizer w/ ModGRIP

The synth is in very good condition & works great!

Operates on 6-C batteries (INCLUDED) or externat power adapter (NOT INCLUDED).” Link

“In beautiful condition. Only a 4mm spot of glue where factory tape held the battery cover. Battery compartment spotless.

Original Box, undamaged manual and original Boss power supply.” Link

“ROLAND SH-101 1980s ANALOG SYNTHESIZER

+Boss PSU original
+Original Manual (good condition)
+Mod Grip (No screws or strap/no R/H strap grip – see description)
+Original Box (Decent Condition)

100% working – great condition – no damage internally or externally – slight colour fading of casing after 20 years as expected on plastic.

I Currently have 2 of these little mono bass wonders and need to let one go so am selling the better condition one.
True analog (VCO) and lots of great features on such a compact synth.
Full sized keys.
The Synth itself is fully functioning, all sliders, switches, pots have been used/checked and work as intended.
Battery compartment is as clean as a whistle.
Inside is clean, no broken posts or missing screws
No crackles from any pots or sliders
Ins/outs working
note this synth never came with MIDI but you can use it via a CV/MIDI box to control it from sequencers etc

Comes with:

original and correct BOSS power supply/mains adapter (can also run off 6 batteries for portable magic)
original manual and some printed patch sheets (see pics) good condition
original packaging including inner polystyrene ends
MOD GRIP!!! Fully working – will need to supply 2 of your own screws to attach it and the other end of synth strap grip is NOT supplied so you’ll need to source one or fabricate one from a generic guitar strap part)

Please make sure you are aware there is no 2nd side strap point provided in this sale – have seen them on ebay occasionally or can be fabricated fairly cheaply – the mod grip itself contains the L/H side strap pin so that side is fine.

Original box is in decent condition but obviously has some wear marks over the years. Manual is clean and no rips etc. Any questions please feel free to ask.

The synth will be bubble wrapped and packed in original packing end supports (see pics) and sealed in box without harming the cardboard (for those who like to keep the outer box clean and in good condition). This box will then be futher wrapped in large bubble wrap and placed in an slightly larger protective box / heavy duty cardboard so will be very well packed and all original contents and packaging will be protected from damage.

Synth will be sent within 2 days of purchase via Parcel Force 48 with tracking number and updates provided – have sold several synths some much heavier than this without a single problem with them so far.” Link

The Synth will be packed very carefully. An AC adapter is included, 12VDC 500ma. It’s not original, but it works nicely. This synth does come with the hand grip. ” Link

Link

“Classic machine, in great condition

Everything works perfectly, and it sounds amazing!

Never gigged, only smoke-free home studio use

Complete with original box!” Link

” Up for sale is a Roland SH-101 complete with the optional hand grip/modulation attachment. This is a really fun analog synth capable of some fantastic bass lines as well as great lead sounds. The filter on this thing is awesome. This particular instrument is the gray version and all the features work as they should. There is a scratch just above the keyboard as shown in the picture but everything else is cosmetically in great condition. The power adapter is included but the SH-101 can also run from batteries if desired. Also included is a very nice road case. Don’t miss this one” Link

“This unit is in perfect working order. Cosmetically it is in excellent condition… one of the sliders is very slightly bent but functions 100% as it should. All parts are original and it has never needed to be serviced because it has seen very very little use. Runs on standard 9v adapter or 6 C batteries (not included).” Link

“ROLAND SH-101 WITH NOVA MODS FULL VERSION ALL DONE BY A PROFESSIONAL CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN INCLUDING ALL 1/4″ JACKS INSTEAD OF 1/8″ FULLY SERVICED, RECAPPED, CALIBRATED, ETC.

In this auction I include the SH-101 in the pictures an Original Roland PS-120 Power Supply not pictured because I forgot to take a picture of it and a copy of the manual for the Nova Mods either Printed or in PDF format as you wish…

This unit is working 100% as a stock Roland SH-101 will since the mods DO NOT alter the it’s performance when the mods are not in use and there are endless possibilities of new sounds that can be done with all the mods and add ons.” Link

“If this unique synth doesn’t sell in this listing I’m going to realise how much I love it and keep it so this is your last chance!

I don’t want to sell this but was offered an even more fascinating synth and now need to pay for it so I’ve decided to part with my Custom Designed Roland SH-101 Dance and Acid/Electro/Experimental Synthesiser. It comes with the Mod Grip and Custom Fitted Flight Case and a virtually new power supply.

You probably know what an SH-101 is so I won’t say much. It has its own built in little sequencer and arpeggiator, sounds divine and has C/V and Gate inputs and outputs. But……

….. this one is CHROME in colour. It’s the only one ever made by Jeff at Customsynth.co.uk and there was a lot of interest when he was selling it but I managed to get it!

It is fully serviced and works perfectly.

This one was customised by Jeff Toman at CustomSynth in Devon just a few months ago and I persuaded him to sell it to me, despite offers of well over £1K.

I know Jeff which helped clinch the deal. Anyway now I’m selling it as I’ve now obtained another synth that I couldn’t refuse and will, to be honest, probably use more!” Link

“Selling a Roland SH-101. It looks and plays like new. I don’t think it was ever actually used (besides when I tested it), but I don’t have the original A/C adapter. I will however ship it to you with the necessary amount of brand new batteries.” Link

Link

“Also comes with attachment so you can play it like a guitar. This unit is like new condition, still in the box with the plastic. The box is even in new condition! ” Link

“Selling a Roland SH-101. It looks and plays like new. I don’t think it was ever actually used (besides when I tested it), but I don’t have the original A/C adapter.” Link

“I have for sale a Roland SH 101 vintage analog synthesizer.

I dont know much about synths but i did some research and it seems this thing is known for being a great synth. I got it from my grandfather who used it years ago i guess but has kept it in storage for awhile now. I dont really have any use for it as I dont produce music so I figured id sell it and let someone who wanted it have a go at it.

As i stated i dont know much but the unit powers on and all keys and functions seem to work fine. Has all original knobs sliders and buttons. Only thing missing is the cover for the battery pack. I read about some kind of battery leakage problem with these things and that doesnt seem to have affected this one, there are no signs of any battery leakage. Comes with power supply. ” Link

“Roland SH-101 Analog Monosynth, Deep Red

Purchased in 2005 from its single owner in Great Britain, this phat little monosyth is in excellent
cosmetic and functional condition. The previous owner had just had it serviced and re-calibrated
by Synth Repair Services of England. All the sliders, pots and switches were cleaned and/or replaced.

It’s been sitting unused and unloved in my studio safe as I have not had the time to devote to music
as I thought I would. It has been played once or twice in the studio, never gigged, until I took it out
to test its functionality before selling. All the features work and the sound is full, rich, and static-free.
It does not have the attachable hand grip but does come with a new Roland factory power supply.
I will also be shipping it thoroughly wrapped and padded in its own metal carrying case,
the interior of which I never got around to fitting with foam.” Link

“Up for bidding ” Roland SH-101 Red Mono Analog/Synthesizer ”

Here we have a rare find, a Roland SH-101 in red. this was a popular snyth back in the 80′s and is still sought after today. This unit is a estate find which has been sitting for quite some time, and had been stored in zip up leather type case. I want to make one thing clear I am no musician and cannot play…I tested this unit and it appeared to work, all levers and switches made changes in the sound…quite awsome! so the long and short of it is, I dont know what all this can do,but I do know it makes some incredable sounds! I did not notice any static in any switches or slides, but I would suggest maybe having a tech look it over…again I am no expert.

Condition is good for its age, the pictures show all angles and any marks…there are some marks here and there from use. There are some screws missing on bottom apparently where a strap mount goes? may have been, not sure but I am mentioning this. Unit will come with a generic power supply.” Link

“Awsome Roland SH-101 synth in absolutely perfect condition. Includes mod grip, original pwer supply and riginal manual. Clean, no sctratches anywhere, super clean battery compartment. I am the original owner, this was among the first few blue units available. Need to make some room, so it is sadly being listed. Hope someone can enjoy this as much as I did.” Link

“FREE Shipping WORLDWIDE. Any extra cost like tarrifs, taxes or other expense are responsibility of the buyer. It ships “as is” if I cannot insure the item. It comes with the following:
Red SH-101 with mod grip (mod grip to be repaired before shipping based on feedback of buyer.)
Original carrying bag(very japanese 80s style)
Roland keytar strap
PSU
Original Manual
Mod kit from kenton (extra expense and time for installation if desired.)
It is 100% working. It is 98% costetically perfect. The battery lid does not sit flush and there is a very small smudge( see pic) on the right side.” Link

“Original Roland SH-101 with modulation grip and original AC adapter. Sounds great and works great. It does have some battery corrosion in the battery compartment, and I’ve never tried to use it with batteries. Also, the tuning knob can be a little finicky if you tap it or move the synth around a lot. Other than that it’s been working great in a smoke-free studio for years. The arpeggio sequencer is a ton of fun and you can’t beat the sweet analog sound. I love this synth. I’m just selling because I’m moving to a much smaller place and need to sell of some of my gear.” Link

“You will be literally blown away by the low end bass and sub frequencies that this little synth creates! This unit is in perfect working condition. Cosmetically it is nearly flawless. All parts are original and it has never needed to be serviced because it has seen very very little use. Runs on standard 9v adapter or 6 C batteries (not included).” Link

“Comes with adapter (not original) & user manual printed from the internet (or I can email the instructions to you as pdf).

Item condition

The synth is generally in good condition given that it is over 20 years old, but has the following issues:

The button cover has come off the volume control as shown in the picture.

Ten of the keys do not play. Of these, eight are close together in the top third of the synth.” Link

“Good condition, awesome sounds (including copy of manual and power supply), I have several Roland synths and this one is in great shape for its age. Whilst Roland SH-101’s can be viewed as an investment due to their increasingly collector status, they are simply way too good not be used and this one needs a new home. (Please note, one slider knob is slightly at an angle, it does not affect it’s functionality in any way and has been like that as long as I can remember, so I just put it down to a bit of character)

Kenton Pro2 CV/Midi converter:

Used and it looks like it! Yes if a CV/Midi converter could in any way be Rock ‘n’ Roll, then this is the one. It functions fine, which is the main thing, it has the factory fitted plug, but alas I don’t have the manual. However, it’s very quick and simple trial and error to find the right channel and then, your off, so no probs really. It still has the Velcro on the top where we had a piano module attached, one of the little feet has been replaced and it has some dance stickers on it for suitably good vibes man. (Fender charge a fortune to make their guitars look road worn and I’m not charging any extra for this CV/Midi converter…!) Seriously, having the CV/Midi converter does open up a whole load of extra uses for the SH-101 and makes it a much more versatile synth, especially in the studio.

I’ve put a sensible reserve on these items of only £250 for the pair. The current version of the Kenton CV /Midi converter alone sells for £320, so you’ll be getting a bargain for a really versatile classic synth set up. Happy bidding.” Link

“For sale is my Roland SH101 Analogue mono synth in great condition. the keyboard also comes with a power supply.” Link

“The synth is generally in good condition given that it is over 20 years old, but has the following issues:

The button cover has come off the volume control as shown in the picture.

Some of the keys do not work. However, when using the step time sequencer the notes are recorded & do playback.” Link

“For sale is my Roland SH101. It is in full working order except for the bottom key stops working intermitently. I have never gigged with this and has only been used for a home studio set up.

The reason for the sale is that I need to raise funds for a drum kit for my son” Link

Roland, SH-101 @ 24 April 2011, “No Comments”

“Up for auction I have the Roland SH-101 analog synthesizer. It is in used AS IS condition due to a few issues. I’m not an expert with synthesizers but i’ll do my best to describe it fully.

First off, I believe the battery option no longer works. Needs to be powered by adapter. Pitch bender wheel does not work. Transpose and Portamento are missing the switches. Both seem to work but need there switches. LED lights come on. It powers up, I can get noise out of it but its a very random machine. I’m pretty sure it needs service but I was also told that its just the SH-101. Has amazing sounds. The modulator, VCO, Source Mixer, VCF, VCA and ENV all seem to do something to the signal but again, I do not know how to dial this keyboard in. Which is a big part of why I’m selling this machine. Its a little complicated for someone like me.

The “A” slider on the ENV is missing its proper cap. A few of the sliders are slightly bent but do still slide just fine. All keys work except for 4th key which seems to sometimes go in and out. Never had the modulation grip so i’m not sure if that works. Inside battery compartment looks relatively clean.

Machine as a whole is in good used condition. A little dusty. The bottom is missing some screws. Such a cool synth but it needs someone with the knowledge to fix it and take care of it. So, with all that being said, this is an AS IS item. You will also get the power adapter I got to power it up. Its not original but it works. Battery cover is really hard to take on and off. So, I have left the battery cover off for now. ” Link

“This Synth came from my father’s smokeless studio which he is the orignal owner. It sat in a smokeless studio for many years untouched. The battery department is clean without any residue. The Synth also comes with the side mount. Bonus is that the synth comes with a Boss Power Supply to plug in the wall and not use batteries (save lots of money). All keys and buttons original without any problems. He has retired and I am selling all his gear.” Link

“Clean and well kept machine. Almost 100% mint. Simple playback testing with the arpeggiator worked 100% fine. Comes with mod grip, sound synthesis book, and original adapter.

notes: there is a slight bend in the filter cutoff slider, but does not affect playback. could be straightened easily if you open the case up.

the adapter is for 100v, but should be fine with 110v, etc. For customers in 200-240v areas, i will send a boss adapter instead, so you don’t need a transformer..” Link

“Roland SH-101 Mono Synthesizer With Mod Grip, A/C Adapter and Manual

Selling a bunch of mucial gear for my brother, including a lot of quality 80′s era Made in Japan stuff – bass guitar, effects, pedals, synths. All items are well taken care of and work great. His description of the listed item, as follows:

Roland SH-101 mono synth, early 80’s 2nd owner. Great, nasty 80’s synth sounds. None of the recent keyboards come close to the growl this board gets, even the recent Rolands with the SH-101 patches. Great shape, comes with original manual, new Boss A/C adaptor and the original mod grip (most sellers offer it separately for an extra $200.00). Professionally looked at and everything works great. No crackles, and no problems. The only issue: one of the screw holes for the strap is enlarged (pictured), but it doesn’t affect the playability whatsoever.” Link

“Roland SH-101 synthesizer with CV/Gate to midi converter installed.

This is a fantastic sounding synth and I hate to let it go. I have to sell it because I will be moving out of state.

Keyboard WORKS GREAT, (all knobs, keys, and sliders function as they should), but I cannot vouch for the CV/Gate to midi converter. Because of this I am selling it AS IS.

I tested the midi when I first used it, and the red LED did flash when I hooked up my drum machine to it via midi cable. I only used this synth for some sound samples and did
not use the converter. The cables needed for the midi converter are not included as I have lost them.

It appears that this synth was at one time in the Netherlands from the SERVAAS’ plate on the back of it. It looks like the converter may have been installed over there from the language on the post-it note attatched to the front of the manual.

There is a crack between the midi thru and in ports. Thus, this synth is NOT in mint condition.

Included is a xerox copy of the manual, synth, and power supply. ” Link

“This Roland SH-101 and MGS-1 modulation grip set (including original leather shoulder strap) comes in near perfect condition as it has been seldom used despite being nearly 30 years old. It comes complete with the original Boss PSA-240 power supply, original owner’s manual, original box for the MGS-01, and a case for the SH101. If I were you, I’d buy a new power supply as this one has a 2 pin plug that has to be attached to an adaptor (also included) which is a little loose. No batteries are included in the SH101 – sorry!” Link

“If you’re reading this you know all about these
About as classic as it gets, and the last of the famous and wonderful Roland analogue monosynths
Just been serviced and works wonderfully
Cosmetically, not bad. Better than that actually. Very well looked after and seldom used at all in the last 10 years
Have owned this synth for at least 20 years, and it has spent tooooo long not being used

There is a knob cap missing and a slider cap, which are shown in pic 3. The controls themselves recently cleaned and overhauled as part of the service
Audio wise – perfect. Not a crackle to be heard. Power switch was upgraded to stop a power wobble that affected ” Link

“Up for auction is a vintage Roland SH-101 Synthesizer

I only know what I have read about on the internet in regards to these and this is one of the better vintage synthesizers.

All of the buttons, sliders and keys work great with no static or hum at all. I have tried it with headphones and through an amplifier and it sounds good and everything seems to work (makes some really funky sounds!). I do not have a powercord for it so I used batteries and it worked great.

Except for the small missing piece on the battery backing (see pics) this keyboard is in excellent almost un-used condition with no scratches, marks or fading of the words or lines (as seen in the pictures). It looks like it was rarely played and it definately was not used professionally.

This synthesizer does not include the mod piece, power cord or the manual. It does however have the original box if you are interested in having it. The box is not in the greatest of shape but I still have it” Link

“Roland SH-101 synthesizer

If you are looking at this, you know what it is.

Selling because I don’t use it anymore and am saving for something else I want.

There are some condition issues, but it is an excellent candidate for restoration.

* Tune knob is very loose, but it’s functional
* All sliders and controls work, but most of the sliders and pots are scratchy and make noise when turned or moved
* 9v AC adaptor not included, but this synth uses a very commonly available Boss 9v adaptor, the same kind used for effects boxes
* There is a burn mark in one of the keys (shown)
* The cover for the battery compartment is missing, there is no sign of any previous battery leakage (see photo)” Link

“Completely working vintage analog acid machine. Excellent shape, all keys, leds, knobs and sliders work, none of them scratchy. Battery compartment clean, no battery acid. Sequencer and Arpeggiator is one of the most amazing around and can be sync triggered using a 5V+ pulse (i think), I always use the built in pulse from my Kenton Pro Solo MkII. This machine is pre MIDI as I’m sure you’re well aware. Used in a smoke free studio and never toured for as long as I’ve owned the machine, which is about 6 years now. Bid with confidence. Any questions feel free to ask. Will come with a Roland Power adaptor and a copy of the manual (not original). Does not include keytar grippy thing. there is however a little plastic cable holder attached to the right side, which could be removed if one wished.” Link

Keyboard was traded in from the original owner. It looks excellent. The keys look great and feel great. You can see how great it looks in the pictures.

“I have had the synthesiser recently serviced (by well known analogue synth expert Kent Spong, http://www.rlmusic.co.uk/service_04.html) who discovered that the CPU on the 101 has blown. He advised that this wasn’t difficult to fix nor expensive, but due to limited time and money at the moment I have to reluctantly sell. New CPU’s can be bought for roughly £50-£80 pounds.” Link
