“Hello Friends! Up for auction is a 100% fully working Roland SH-09!! This synth shows it’s age(check out photos) in the case but all pots, sliders, switches, and keys work well!! Also I’m including the Kenton MIDI to CV converter with power supply and CV and Gate cables(I paid $300). This is a great analog synth that you could easily clean up for the museum or keep as is and rock out at the dive bar. ” Link

“Up for sale is Roland SH-09 monophonic analog synthesizer, one of the most popular monosynth from Roland’s classic SH series.

The unit seems to be functioning fine, all the keys and knobs and sliders worked fine when I tested. However, line out from the Output seem to be not working properly so I tested the unit using Phones output into an amp. Its working fine through Phones output.

Cosmetically there are few paintings done on knobs and sliders as you can see. There is also a sticker on the back. But apart from that the unit is in pretty nice condition if you consider that this is from the very early ’80s. There are some minor ware and marks, but nothing major, overall nice cosmetic condition.

Comes with Roland hard case as shown.
I will also include the original owner’s manual in Japanese.” Link

“Roland SH-09 analog monophonic synthesiser with original Roland keyboard stand

Functional condition is excellent as it was serviced last year by Andy Horrell at Emis synth museum
Cosmetic condition is good – some minor scuffs on panel in keeping with it’s age.
Pitch bender is also present and correct unlike a lot of other SH09s appearing on Ebay where they have snapped off

Comes with original Roland stand and looks the business – retro heaven.” Link

“This particular SH09 is in good condition considering it’s age. Cosmetically it’s not the best you’ll find, but the synth is clearly well-used and it gives it character. It does look as though it has been around and seen a few things in it’s time but otherwise any “damage” is purely superficial. One of the sliders (the VCO on the Audio Mixer section) is crooked but works absolutely fine and, probably a little more annoying if you are not used to the instrument, a few of the labels have rubbed off, but that’s the worst of it and is really pretty minimal for an instrument such as this. There are minor scratches to it’s chassis, a couple stickers and so on but that’s it.

The important thing is that it plays superbly and sounds absolutely brilliant. The power cord is hardwired into the synth, meaning no ugly PSU’s to lose or damage and a much more steady, reliable source of power. It has it’s original manual too (which certainly helps with those few missing labels!!).” Link

“Get yourself a bargain on a classic pre-MIDI monosynth!
Fantastic for both dirty analogue bass and sci-fi fx – this is one for the synth collector/enthusiast

The Roland SH-09 as used by Orbital, Vince Clarke, BT, Conemelt, Josh Wink, Banco De Gaia, Mr. Oizo, Ladytron, Jimmy Edgar, Dave Holmes, Freddy Fresh, OMD, and 808 State!

The SH-09 features:
Oscillators – 1 VCO with selectable ramp, PWM, noise or square waveforms
LFO – switchable sine, square or random waveforms
Filter – cutoff/res/env
VCA – ADSR
Arpeg/Seq – NO
Keyboard – 32 keys
Control – CV / Gate
Date Produced – 1980

Also worth mentioning:

This is a monophonic and not polyphonic synth so only one note can be played at a time
There is no MIDI socket or MIDI function built into this synth but you can control it’s playback via an external MIDI device using the CV/Gate sockets on the back panel of the synth (please see photo)
* additonal CV/Gate to MIDI box required but not included

It’s been safely cared for and used in a smoke-free environment. All sliders and knobs are in good working order and condition. This synth is in near mint condition, however, there is a small area on the D2sharp key which appears to have been melted by something (previous owner). This is purely a cosmetic imperfection as the key is still fully functional. This may even be a replaceable part stocked by Roland.

This is a great sounding synth which I will be sad to part with but I’m sure it will make somebody very happy. I am selling simply because I am trying to clear some hardware from my studio as I no longer have the room” Link

“You are bidding on my Very Cool monosynth Roland Sh-09 Classic 80′s Synth. I have had this keyboard for years, and its really not getting used like it should. So it needs to go to a good home. It hasn’t been played for a long while but i’ve plugged it in and it all appears to work correctly. It could probably do with a service as like i said its a pretty old keyboard.

The condition is excellent, considering the age however as with any instruments this old it does have some signs of use with some scuffs, scratches and marks here and there. There is also a little rust on the metal bodywork however this doesn’t effect the sound in anyway. It looks good for its age.” Link

“Fantastic vintage analog mono synth. I bought this at a boot fair and it appears to be working perfectly but I’m not familiar enough with the machine to guarantee it, so the item is ‘sold as seen’.
However I’m happy to upload some audio samples of maybe I can even film it in action. As I say it seems to me to be working great and sounds amazing, I’m tempted to keep it but I already have several mono synths and can’t justify – or find space – for another.
Cosmetic condition is really good although inevitably there are a few scratches and scrapes and one slider knob is missing as you can see from the photos.” Link

“This item is part of around 40 items that are up for auction as part of a house clearance, following a friend’s death (with proceeds to his daughter). They have been turned on to check they are operative, but have not been tested further than that (although many were used recently and/or repeatedly).

I’m afraid that I cannot answer any technical questions whatsoever, as I don’t know the details of the items – we have just photographed them, noted the model numbers etc, and found out a bit about them online.” Link

“Cosmetically in very good condition for its age – only the odd small scratch here and there – barely noticable as the pictures tell. The pitch bend wheel tip was however broken off by a previous owner. The pitch bend still works fine though. Everything electronically works as it should. I own also a 2nd SH-09 and have used that synth existensively for the past ten hours without issue. These are great little synths and easy to use and quick to operate live. Fanstastic fat bass sounds right through to electronic beeps and bubbles the SH09 shines. This synth for sale I believe to be in the same electronic condition having run it through its paces I found no problems whatsover” Link

“Roland SH-09 Monophonic Analogue Synthesizer

You are bidding on a Roland SH-09 Vintage Analogue Monosynth.

The synth is in working order but there has been physical damage to it over its 30+ years life.

The plastic next to the pitch bend has been broken as well as some minor damage to the on/off switch. Some of its black paintwork has also come off (see photos)
The operation of both the pitch bend and no/off switch are not effected by this damage. A couple of fader controls are a little stiff with age but are fully operational.

The synth was in this condition when I purchased it 20 years ago and has been well looked after ever since” Link

“Up for auction is the Roland SH09.

This is a monstrous synth and I part with her reluctantly! The classic sound of vintage analog Roland monosynths is enhanced in this unit with an additional sub oscillator, which really beefs up the sound. The filter is excellent, and you can process external signals with it. Modulates using sine/square or sample/hold as well as portmento.

This machine is in great condition, the only flaw is that the plastic top of the modwheel has snapped off at some stage, which doesn’t affect operation, but should be easy enough to fix.

You will love this amazing synth.” Link

“This Roland Sh09 is in excellent cosmetic condition and works perfectly. I would give it a 9 out of 10 for looks, This synth was recapped about 3 years ago and a couple of the pots have been replaced. It is back to to the same specs as the day it came off the Roland factory floor. The sh09 is really a classic and has such an organic sound I have a sh101 and that sounds for lack of a better word like plastic. One other thing is that this is all discrete circuitry and therefore will always be easy and cheap to fix unlike a lot of CEM based synths of that era, I said I would never sell it but I have 2 sh09s and a sh02. Also of interest is I bought this synth from Fleetwood Macs manger back in the nineties. Not sure if it was used on anything but it did belong to them at one time. ” Link

I rescued this from a studio attic a fair few years back, looks like it has the power unit still intact. Keyboard seems nice still and both end cheeks are intact but have some wear. There is a crack on the body near the bender wheel. Its missing the all the VCF/VCA/VCO boards.

I also have 2 of the ‘knobs’ and 3 slider caps as well as some screws and washers.” Link

Link

“For sale: one Mad Max Roland SH09. The story is this- I got it at a garage sale 10 or 12 years ago in rough shape cosmetically… I don’t understand how, but the front panel was rusted in a fairly bizarre way and there was no saving the original paint. I considered having it powder coated and making it fancy looking again, but then I realized I had never really seen a rat rod style monosynth, so i just wire wheeled it down and allowed it to surface rust, replaced the screws with industrial looking hex head bolts, relabeled it with a red label maker, and added a few red LED’s to the control board for good measure so the control panel glows red… it looks pretty cool in the dark. Most of the sliders were replaced at the same time, I think the external input slider is the only one I didn’t change out. All of the slider caps and knobs are there, nothing is missing. CV/gate inputs work well.

There are 2 issues with it aside from the cosmetic mods. The first is that the stick part of the pitch stick is snapped off. The wheel still works fine, it just doesn’t have the part that sticks up anymore. Chipforbrains sells them for a few bucks if you care.

The second thing is that the envelope generator has an oddity. When the sustain is set below 1/3 or so, the decay setting will retrigger the envelope sort of like an arpeggiator. This is actually useful, because it adds an arpeggiator like function to the synth, and at very low settings it retriggers so fast that it produces tones similar to the polymod section on Sequential synths. I have never fixed it because it is easy to work around, and it adds a ton of additional sound possibilities that normal SH09′s can’t do. The signal path of this synth is all discrete, so repairing it to stock would most likely cost 15 cents, but you would lose more than you would gain IMO.

Another cool trick on the SH09 is to use the headphone output as the main audio out, and run the normal out into the external input, that allows you to use the external in slider on the mixer as a sort of third oscillator, again adding a lot of sonic possibilities that the average SH09 isn’t going to do. Super aggressive, clangorous sounds abound.

I have owned this synth for a long time. It works great and sounds fantastic, far better than the SH101 and later IC based Roland analogs. All keys work perfectly, all controls work good, the sliders aren’t staticy… a very unique, very cool monosynth, and the absolute *only* reason I am selling this is because an injury has had me out of work for a couple months and I really have no choice at this point but to start thinning out my stuff.” Link
