“Condition

This item is not working. Sold as seen. The unit powers up (internal power supply does work), but no sound is heard from it at all. I understand that this unit:

needs to have its electrolytic capacitors replaced;
mains cable is split;
all parts seem to be intact except modulation wave selector switch tab on front which is broken off and will need replacing;
left hand controllers are stiff and will need to be cleaned;
there are water marks on the top on the left of the wooden casing of the synthesizer – French polish should remove these.

This vintage instrument will be of interest to someone who would like to oversee its restoration.” Link

“We are lucky to offer a very very nice Moog Satelite Synthesizer model 5330 with original manuals and box. The item is terrific shape for it’s age. Keys are in excellent condition, no cracks or marks. All switches are clean and in perfect alignment. I tested into a spare receiver and speakers (used y splitter) and it played super nice. Key contacts should be cleaned but all contacted and produced sound. Cosmeticly The left side on the back has a split in wood, as shown in pictures, and is seperated. Should be an easy fix with wood glue. There are also a couple of surface scratches on the top and a bit of marker/writing on back. Small piece of liner shows under upper contol panel. Flaws are mentioned for acuracy in listing. This is still a very good looking synthesizer.
I am not an expert but I was able to make most sounds and to make them change just like a synthesizer should. We are really lucky to get original manuals when we bought this. First is the Owners and Service manaul with full schematics. The second is the Registration Guide which gives you all the tips to accurately reproduce the sounds you want. Original box is in pretty good shape. Original shipping tag to Baltimore from Montgomery Ward Co. Item is 29″ wide, by 10″ deep, and 5″ tall. We are selling as is but guarantee non-DOA as we are honest sellers.” Link

“Moog Satellite
The Moog Satellite is a cool little synth that was designed by Moog and built by the Thomas Organ company. It has a very early 70′s sound and is great for those classic warm Moog tones.

This Moog is in great condition.

It works fine and looks good despite missing some slider caps. All the tab switches are intact and functional.” Link

“Here’s a Moog Satellite Analog Synthesizer. This has been repaired and most everything works. The cabinet wood has a fair number of dings and scrapes, as can be seen in the pictures, but it is in solid condition. The sliders and buttons all function. This is a single oscillator preset instrument with some minimal control to alter the preset sounds. The web has many good resources for this instrument, including manuals for free.

Know issues:
Even though I spent a lot of time cleaning the keyboard contacts a handful of keys still double trigger once in a while. Maybe the contacts need yet another cleaning, but I’ve already spent too much time on this, so I am leaving that up to the new owner.
Two of the preset tabs have broken off, but there’s still enough left to operate them with your fingers.
The wooden case has seen better days, but there is no water damage and the case is solid.
The instrument was tuned about two years ago, but it now sounds slightly out of tune at the extremes of its sonic ranges, ie very high or low notes.” Link

“vintage Moog Satellite model 5330 electronic synthesizer keyboard

wood sides

unit looks complete

i believe the original case as well, although all of the inside foam has been removed

before you take this to your recording session or gig, you’ll need to perform some maintenance on the instrument

the synth is in somewhat working condition

it will at least need to have the contacts cleaned

3 or 4 keys do not work, the rest are a bit sketchy….they work, just not optimally

the sliders are a little stiff

one slider is a little wobbly

i believe all the stops work

in general the instrument is in very good cosmetic condition

the wood looks good

i see no major chips, scratches or cracks

there is what appears to be a felt foot on the left front corner which should be easily removed (shown in photo #4)

from what i have been reading, it is not uncommon for these vintage Moog synthesizers to require maintenance as they mature

i believe once tuned up this baby will prove to be a good looker as well as an excellent sound partner

please check out my photo’s” Link

“The Moog Satellite is a cool little synth that was designed by Moog and built by the Thomas Organ company. It has a very early 70′s sound and is great for those classic warm Moog tones.

This Moog is in great condition. It works perfectly and looks good despite missing two slider caps. All the tab switches are intact and functional.

This item is shipped as described above and is sold as-is. Returns are accepted only in the case of electronic malfunction as the result of the rigors of shipping.” Link

“This here is a 1970′s Moog Satellite made by the Thomas Organ Company. THIS IS IN WORKING CONDITION UNLIKE OTHERS I HAVE SEEN ON CRAIGLIST AND EBAY!!! Features a wood body and tons of effects! I’m not an organ or piano player but when I was younger I used this to make all sorts of crazy techno sounds. I still think it looks and sounds great!

The only two things that I see that you should know about is a faint water mark on the wood(see close up pic of keys), you can only see it at certain angles but it is there. Second the controls for the filtering , modulation, and volume all look like they have hairline fractures but only on the side that faces you(see close up pic). ALL of the knobs are firmly in place and no I did not glue them on.

I have no need for this instrument anymore. I’d rather have someone who wants a nice retro synth to have it. This has been well cared for since the day I bought it.” Link

“Extremely rare Model A – Moog Satellite Synthesizer. Made in Williamsville, NY 14221. Very low serial number 1160.

This Satellite was made by Moog Music Inc., before the rights were sold to Thomas Organ Co. This is not the mass produced Thomas Organ Co. version. The Model A utilizes the “Moog Satellite Discrete Matrix” PCB, and 8x RCA3080A transistors. There are a substantial amount of build quality differences between the Thomas produced and a Genuine Moog Satellite, making the sound and tonal elements incomparable.

Tested and in great working condition. All sliders, keys, switches, ins/outs, pots, volume, and tuners function as they should. Cosmetically, it is in very good condition. All of the slider caps have small fractures and one patch selector toggle switch (bow) has cracked and been repaired. This Satellite has a unique pitch bend control and a 3 position switch making it very expressive! The 3 position switch functions with the pitch bend as: off / +- 1 octave / +- dominant note. The filter is extremely organic and natural sounding.” Link

“You are bidding on a vintage Moog Satellite. The synth has several
different presets which you can then adjust filter shape, logarithmic
glide, LFO speed, LFO amount, LFO shape, oscillator octave range,
dampening (sustain), auto trigger (based off of LFO speed), tremolo
and vibrato.
The wood case is walnut is in good shape and is very smooth but shows where
the sides have been glued to the top/back piece. The original slider caps
were missing and have been replaced with Roland System 100M caps which fit
the sliders perfectly. The sliders themselves operate smoothly and cleanly.
See the video below for a basic demo of the sounds.
The keyboard triggers great and the keyboard has fresh bushings. The flip
switches all work and are in good shape with the exception of one which looks
like it was partially melted by a candle or cigarette.
Sound wise, the synth does a surprising good job for both bass and leads. Pitch
and master volume are located on the back of the instrument. There is also a
Moog accessory port as well as a CV control external input for the filter.
I am a non-smoker and have always used the synth in a non-smoking environment.” Link

“This is a circa 1975 Moog Satellite Analog Synthesizer (model 5330). It is in awesome condition! The synth works perfectly without any problems! All of the sliders and switches work and every key works perfectly! Two of the plastic slider caps have come off and a few others are starting to crack (shown in pictures) but this is not a big deal at all and this does not affect the functionality. The power switch is chipped a little but this is also not a big deal at all. Everything else is perfect! The wood is in amazing shape, all of the keys are perfect and this thing sound AMAZING!

I believe this is the best and coolest sounding Mono-Synth ever made and the analog quality is amazing! The filter on this synth is awesome and it really represents what made Moog synths so famous! This is just a great vintage synth and it is in awesome condition! I am sure you will be very happy with this synth.” Link

“Thomas Satellite Moog sythesisiser Model 1050 – Dates from early 70′s

External condition is good with only a few small minor scratches

It’s monophonic and it does work, BUT a couple of the keys stick and one “squeaks” instead of making a note, so it’s “Sold as spares”. All the preset levers are undamaged and appear to work, as do all the sliders on the left.

Not been used since the 70′s Please feel free to ask any questions as I am NOT a keyborad player and not sure what is relevenat in the listing.

Originally made by the Thomas Organ Company in Chicago under licence.” Link

” Moog Satellite analog synthesizer for repair. Inspect tag inside 4/4/1973 One of the few furntiture synths like the minimoog it’s easy to take apart and built like a piece of furniture. I had this synth for along time being into electronic music since 1972. It was in the attic and worked fine til now when I brought it down to sell. The walnut cab is beautiful as with the woodcheeks, no scratches, one slider had a lite crack but it is fine a little scotch tape work out fine for years on it. Ok here”s what I found out: keyboard does not change notes(same sound on each key), but does change sounds via the tabs that are pressed. each note plays and sounds good and clear. the keys are even and maybe one might be just a bit off even if you look hard. The rca jack imput sound louder than the 1/4 inch jack imput, can’t remember if this was always the case since I had it. The screw on one cheek is split on bottom inside of wood which makes the screw loose but I reglued it and I think it is fine now, (not seen from outside) I notice also a little brass set screw was on the bottom of the cab loose, will include it scotched taped to manual. One of the circuit boards is cracked on the edge where the screw mounts to the chassis, but this was never a problem it was that way before I purchased it.(Iam the 2nd owner) the gain pot is dirty on back and you have to wiggle it sometimes to get louder but once you set it it’s ok. All keys were cleaned and sound fine, cool little synth, easy to clean and work on just a few screws to remove the wood cab and bottom plate and your inside. I think personally, it’s just a bad contact connector that needs lube that will make the keyboard sound each note down the board. Might be recommended to clean all the connectors since it was in the attic for a long time. I would keep this but since I have a couple of minimoogs and don’t use it it anymore so it’s gotta go. Comes w/copy of Satellite owners & service manual. As-is condition” Link

“Vintage Moog Satellite Synthesizer.
The glide drawbar lets you make those sweeping glide tones ala Keith Emerson’s Lucky Man solo.
I used to run it through effects pedals – digital delay, echoplex. etc.
It is also good for making growling, or explosions sounds.

This keyboard was services about 10 years ago.
The draw bar was replaced with a white one (not original)
I also noticed that the plate on the left by the drawbars is somewhat loose.
It does not affect the funtionality of the draw bars, all are working.

It had been packed away for some years.
I got it out and plugged it in, and it did not sound at first.
It finally did play after a minute or so, I thought it was because it had been sitting for so long.
There are two jacks in the back, low and high level.
I was only able to plug into the low level because I only have a 1/4th inch cord.
The low level is very low: 1 bar compared to 3-4 bars on any of my other keyboards.
That may have been why it seemed not to be getting sound at first, because the level is so low.
There is a high level output, but I do not have the right cord to test it.

I tested it and all of the keys sound
I flipped all of the switches and they seem to be working.
The right hand group varied little in tone.
As I said, I used to run it through a digital delay and an echoplex, which beefed up the sound quite a bit.
I am selling the digital delay in another auction, it is not working however.

There is some discoloration of the wood on the top front right, and a spot on the top front left.
Otherwise comsemetically good.

It comes with the original hard shell case.
It has a lot of stickers which I did not attemp to remove.
There was fitted foam inside of the case at one time.
It was all crumbled. I scraped it out and put in the bubble wrap, aprrox 10 years ago when it was serviced.” Link

Link

“Only a few thousand of these baby’s were made in production year 1974. The Moog filter is killer, like all the Moog’s are famous for. The synth is 37 keys of mono strangeness and analog bliss. Capable of very weird modulations as well as some standard meat and potato sounds, the Satellite is built around a solid wood frame with flip switches on the front panel below the keys. There are sliders to the left of the keys. The keyboard is made up of 3 wavetables for its sounds:Brass, Strings, and Reed. Each of these wavetables have 4 to 5 parameters to work with. There is also, Bell and Lunar wavetables for out of this planet types.” Link

“This vintage Moog Satellite is in rough shape, but still ticking.
Moogs are temperamental machines and this one specifically will need time and expertise to get it back in its prime.
This Moog measures 29″ x 10″ x 5″. It powers up and the red light turns on. All the keys eventually produce sound after approx. 30 minutes of playing, but some keys blend their tones, creating a sort of Portamento when played. Some of the keys feel stiff whereas others are broken-in nicely. As can be seen in the photos of the ‘Voice’ tabs, some of the keys are not level and rest above or below their mates. The voice tabs are temperamental, sometimes producing noticeable changes, other times not.
The Contour, Color, Emphasis, Rate, and Depth sliders all produce noticeable changes in the texture of the sound being produced.
The Volume slider also effectively controls the output volume. The Glide (aka portamento) slider in particular is less noticeable because of the aforementioned problem of the keys already naturally drifting into Portamento (although those keys are ultimately the exception rather than the rule). The wooden frame is attached to the body of the synth, but missing two screws, so it is best to handle with two hands when moving.
I have peeked inside and cleaned lightly but it is dusty in there and the whole board will need some cleaning and TLC. ” Link

“Although I’m neither a technician nor a muscian, this appears to be properly and fully working. As pictured, the case was ‘modified’ to be secured to a bank of keyboards, otherwise there appears to be no damage to the case. It powers up and the ‘on’ light illuminates. Although I do not know what each preset ‘should’ sound like or what effect each switch represents, every slide bar and every tab switch does ‘something’ predictable and unique. Every key responds when depressed. It is a ‘safe’ assumption that this is a working unit. But without a point of reference, I do not know if it is working correctly. Like old timepieces, I cannot guarantee future preformance, selling as is as stated. ” Link

“Today I am auctioning off my Moog Satellite 70′s Monosynth. It looks almost brand-new and even has the original box it was shipped in! But, it does not work properly. It makes a sound for the first second or so when first turned on but then stops. All the tabs works, as do all the sliders but it just seems to have troubles making sounds. Bring it to your local electrical engineer and you can have this up and going again for nearly nothing (I know these ones are easy to work on!). This is a good way of getting that great Moog sound for cheap. ” Link

Link

“This Moog Satellite is (to the best of my knowledge) 100% working. I’ve not noticed anything that doesn’t operate (slides, presets, keys, light all seem to function well), but it is over 30 years old, so I’m selling “as is”. Comes with the wood storage case / gig crate (see photos below)… probably the reason this satellite is still in such good condition. Buyer pays actual shipping.” Link

“This synth is performing erratically. It is in VG+ cosmetic condition with light scratches to bottom and wood side panels. There is some kind of discoloration on the left-hand control section probably from excessive cleaning (it’s been there since we’ve owned it). It powers up no problem. None of the tabs are broken and all of them switch up and down. HOWEVER we are unable to get this synth to work properly. Some voices kick in and out, others don’t activate at all. We are very scrupulous about representing condition etc. and for this reason we are selling this synth for parts only. If you have a Satellite and want something to raid as a back-up, please consider. If you have the time and skill to get inside it and work on it, then please consider. Otherwise please do not buy this synth on the expectation you will be able to plug it in and play it with no problems.” Link

“Well first off, here is the sob story: I lost my job a year ago and haven’t been able to find anything yet. Money is running out so I am digging into my collection of memorabilia and putting it up for sale. I have a houseful and I needed to thin out my collection anyway. What better time to do this than during a financial crisis? Please see my other auctions for vintage concert shirts (including Stevie Ray Vaughn’s last tour), Game Worn Jerseys, vintage sports cards, new DVD’s and all kinds of weird and wonderful stuff. Some of these items are tough to part with.

I purchased this Synthesizer back in 1984 from a musician in Ancaster, Ontario Canada. It was my first Synth and I have been a Moog fan ever since. I played this instrument in the short lived, but legendary Canadian band The Spinning Tops. In late 84 I plugged this synth into an amp with a bad ground and damaged one of the IC chips inside. In January 1985 I took the synth directly to the Moog factory in Buffalo, NY for repair and reconditioning. It still has the repair tag sticker on the synth and I have the original repair report.

I didn’t play this synth too often after the late 80’s but I always kept it in a safe place even while moving from Canada to Cincinnati to Athens, GA.

The serial number of the synth is: 2190127

I recently tested the synth and it sounds great and works well once it warms up. When you first turn it on some of the keys do not produce a sound or produce a bad sound for the first couple of minutes. I think opening up the synth and cleaning the electrical connections on the keys will remove any oxidation and fix this sound issue. But, you have been warned. The synth doesn’t sound great until it warms up and officially, I am selling the synth AS IS.

Some of the sound choices include:

* Various forms of modulation, glide and sustain
* 2 Brass choices
* 4 Reed choices
* 4 String choices
* Bell and Lunar filters (wild sounds through these)

Cosmetically, here are the details:

* The synth has wear and tear on the metal back and bottom. What can I say, it was used in a couple of working bands and has some miles on it.
* The wood is in good shape. There is some wear and scratches, but overall I did my best to protect it over the years.
* The keys are in great shape
* All the switches are in great shape and have no cracks or pieces missing
* It is missing 4 slider knobs but two are intact
* The slider knob board has some glue residue around the edge of it. You can see it in the picture

This is a great monophonic synth from the early 80’s. It’s just taking up space now and needs a good home with someone who appreciates it and wants to take some time to clean it up and make it sound great.

There is a knob on the left hand side underneath the sliders which was added by the previous owner back in the 80′s. It adusts the pitch of the sound and allows you to change it by twisting the knob. This was similar to the joystick that was on the Mini Moog of the same era. I did not know this wasn’t a factory option until someone sent me note through Ebay. It was there when I aquired the synth in the 80′s and it works so well that I thought it was from the factory.” Link

sat “Amazing Vintage MOOG Satellite Synthesizer. Needs a little electronics work that I am not capable of doing. Some of the connections for some of the keys are dirty and when certain keys are hit the tones change erratically. I am pretty convinced this is just bad connections as the rest of the synth works just fine.
Several of the toggle knobs for the filter and modulation controls are missing but this does not impede their function at all (See picture nine). The wood is in relatively good condition with a few minor flaws. It has seen some road action but all in all it is solid.

Now that that is over with lets talk about what it does have. For your filter controls you have contour, color, and emphasis. For modulation there is rate and depth. There is also a glide slider and yoour main volume. For the effects that are the toggle switches in the front you have – 2 octive controls, more modulation including wave control, vib and trem, glide and sustain. moogsat “Moog Satellite vintage analog synth synthesizer Moog Satellite (Model 5330) Vintage analog synthesizer from around 1974

Get youself a little bit of real vintage Moog without pawning the rest of your studio off.

Don’t let what others have said about the bass fool you – this is a bass MACHINE. I used it on plenty of recordings just for its awesome BASS. Choose the lowest octave (2 octave switches down) and a simple sound – or none, it still puts out a tone, and play. Mess with the Contour, Color (filter cutoff freq – pull it way down) and Emphasis.

There’s other good things on it if you mess around, the tone is fat, and has that old character that must come from the old caps, resistors, transistors, etc. They are made way differently than what is done today. Hook up a delay and jam.

It won’t replace your standard thousand knob modern synth, it’s to fill around that, they were still figuring out what the standard was back then, what musicians wanted. Now we’re all rocket scientists.

Just to back up what I’ve said and let you form your own opinion, here’s 17 minutes of testing on soundcloud: http://soundcloud.com/mutron3000/moog-satellite

This is old, some things aren’t perfect:
Three of the switches are broken, still useable (see pics).
The 7 sliders are missing their caps (to left of keyboard).
Some of the lowest and highest key contacts are a bit dusty, needs cleaned, playing them worked well enough for me. And from the pic you can see a key that sits up. Not sure what did this, didn’t get in my way.” Link

moogsat “Up for bids is a Moog satellite Synthesizer. The Synth is in great shape, and even comes with the registration sound guide. A hard item to find.

This Synth came out of my neighbors basement. He used it as another row with his theatre organ. It has been babied and if in fantastic shape.

Cosmetically the synth is in fantastic shape. The walnut is unfaded with only a few small nicks above the sliders and a little wear on the top of the sides. Also, a few of the knobs above the sliders appear to have shrunk a small amount causing the seam to show slight separation. Nothing major and really hard to see. I just want full disclosure. Other than that just some dust. I have even cleaned it up a bit since taking the pictures. I’ll let them do the talking.

Everything on the Synth functions and it sounds awesome. There are only two issues keeping this from being 100%.

First the volume slider is a little scratchy/noisy at about 3/4 volume. Once set it makes good contact.
Second, a few of the bass keys (bottom 3 or 4) sometimes flutter in sound. A slight contact issue. They have been getting better the more it gets played. I’m sure a quick cleaning would do the trick. This only seems to show up when holding a long note.” Link

satellite “This is a rare Moog Satellite synthesizer. There is a missing knob on the back and some wood glue visible from reinforcing the corners, but it’s in otherwise great physical condition. Operation wise, everything works well and it holds notes nicely, but the modulation does not work. It’s a successor to the Minitmoog and is a monophonic synthesizer with presets which can be changed with filter, modulation, LFO, and envelope. There really isn’t much else to say about this!” Link

MOOG4 “This auction is for a MOOG Model 5330 Satellite Synthesizer Fully Working. Made in Chicago, IL USA, this MOOG 5330 is in fully working condition. I tried every key, all the slider sitches and flip switches and everything checks out good. This is my brother’s unit that he has had for many years, used only sparingly. The slide controls are CONTOUR, COLOR, EMPHASIS, RATE, DEPTH, GLIDE, VOLUME. It has BRASS, REED, STRING, OCTAVE, and MODULATION selectors. The rear has HI and LO Outputs, LEVEL ADJUST, TUNE, FILTER CONTROL INPUT and ACCESSORY Plug. The power cord is in good shape and is pretty long. The wood cabinet is in excellent shape with only a few small nicks. It has 37 keys and is 29″ wide in length.” Link

moog_sat “This auction is for an old 70s Moog Satellite synth, I bought this recently and when it came it was dead on arrival. It lights up and there is a ‘swishing’ sound when you turn the modulation tab on – nothing else. The tabs and sliders are all present although one tab is snapped. The keys are in good condition and the wooden cabinet has cosmetic blemishes but is sound. I looked inside her and there was no indication of any blown out parts or cracked boards, however there is lots of muck and dust. I’m sure someone with the knowledge could ressurect this lovely old vintage synth and get it playing again or at least salvage its parts. Sold as spares and repairs and not working. I was going to get this looked at by synth repair but I just bought another Rogue so this has got to go to make way for it. Relisted with BIN for those who asked.” Link

” The Satelite was Moogs Preset synth. In that time the tried to model real Instruments by analog synths. The was result was on the one hand far away from the “real” instruments, nevertheless the sounds are unique, warm vintage analog…

Condition: Very Bad… DEFECT, some keys missing, pot caps missing, wooden case damaged (has to be glued). The output has always the same pitch and tone independent which key or preset you press.

Bidders outside UE please ask for shipping costs! ” Link

“For sale is a Moog Satellite(Model 5330) Vintage analog synth. It was given to me to add to my collection. Unfortunately I don’t have the time to play or mess around with it. I’ve plugged it in and there IS sound, however it will be need to have work done as it doesn’t work properly. I haven’t tried opening up to see what it needs to work properly again. So it’s being sold as is.
There are 2-3 broken tabs in the front, but are still useable. Also there are 4 out of 7 slider buttons that are missing from the top (see pictures).” Link

I don’t know a ton about this unit. We picked it up a couple years ago, it worked fine and now it just powers on and makes no sound. All of the sliders are there with only a couple tabs missing.” Link
