“You are bidding on a previously used Roland VP-330 Vocoder Plus. This auction is for the Vocoder you see pictured with attached power cord only. There is nothing else included. Pictures are of actual item. The unit shows normal wear and age with scuffs and scratches on the outside housing. Some of the knobs are missing from the sliders and are slightly bent but are still workign. Some of the metal hardware has some tarnishing on it. We plugged it in and tested it out. We were able to get the sound out and the effects, even hooked up a mic for the vocal stuff and it worked. Thanks for checking out my auction. For sale is a RARE Roland VP-330 Mark 1 in truly excellent condition. This is the original model, and has just been serviced by the top vintage synth tech in Las Vegas. It’s in excellent cosmetic condition and electrical condition! The cosmetics are 9.5/10, with only the most minor marks on the instrument to show its 30+ years of age. Some of the sliders and the master volume control have a little static in them, but all functions of the instrument perform perfectly.
This is truly a rare gem. The VP-330 combined the best of Roland’s vocoder and string technology with a one-of-a-kind choir synth. The sound of the VP-330 can be heard on Vangelis’s Blade Runner soundtrack, along with the incredible Yamaha CS80 synth. There were two version of the VP-330, the Mark 1 and Mark 2, and the original version of this instrument is the one to get! “This is the Roland VP-330 Vocoder Plus. Vangelis used it for the gigantic, lush string sound of Blade Runner, NOT the CS-80. You also hear the “Human Voice” preset all over that film. It is also the vocoder in Laurie Anderson’s “O Superman.” It also makes a great rhythm-loop processor. You can even input a different synth as the carrier signal, if you want. This particular unit is in excellent physical and working condition. It has been in our smoke-free studio for years at 73 degrees F. It is the original model with the rocker switches.” Auction ended. “Roland manufactured the VP-330 for only one year (between ’79 and ’80) and as a result these instruments are ridiculously rare, especially in fully working and beautiful cosmetic condition. Two different versions of this machine were made, the Mark I featuring organ-style rocker switches and a SAD512 IC-based chorus circuit, and a Mark II (this unit here) that had TR-808 / Jupiter-8 style buttons and MN300X IC-based chorus. I have played both versions side by side and can honestly say that whatever slight sonic difference I heard from the different chorus circuits was like comparing two Minimoogs or two TB-303s…in other words, nothing that couldn’t just be the result of 30 year old electronics drifting in calibration.
