Been putting of selling this beast for some time now. Hate to see such a legendary piece go but we need to wipe out some debts! Was able to use it on one release…so it is ok to see it off to someone who can put it to more use!
Here is the details :
It has been covered from dust in a climate controlled studio for the last few years of it life with us…seeing very little use.
I’m not sure if we are the second owners but we aren’t the first owners. Bought it on eBay years ago from a studio out of California. I suspect it was used on the road with all the cosmetic issues it has. It also had some technical problems when we received it… but we brought it to the very capable hands of Switched On in Austin, TX and they whipped it into shape. Recommend Switched On very highly for their service work!!! Super talented people!
They cleaned up the broken shoddy midi job that was done on the interior (NO MIDI by the way!) and they said it could use a few more hours on the bench for the timing circuit. This wasn’t an issue for us at all…so we called it a day. Worked perfectly for us ever since the great techs of Switched On fixed it up.
Ok so details about the timing circuit. What this means is if you’d like to change the tempo (in mid performance) then you will still have problems with the consistency of tempo, and you will need to service it to fix this final tech issue. It will go in and out of the set tempo for a few seconds with deviation etc. We never did any tempo changes at all (after setting the main tempo duh) so it was never an issue for us at all. If you JAM on the 808 like we do then I wouldn’t honestly see a reason to get it serviced for many more decades…at least!!
After all of that being said the only other problems are purely cosmetic..as you can obviously see in the photos.
Drill holes scatted around for a crap MIDI job …what were they thinking!!! Back to what seems like evidence to be a gigging 808. A spot that looks like a cigarette burn on the top left hand side of the plastic and also a melted area on the plastic in the rear of the left hand side from being too close to hot equipment?!?! They definitely roughed this one up!!!
After you hear a real 808 in action though…looks definitely aren’t everything
Random scattered scratches and 4 missing color circle stickers for : Mid Tom Tuning, Hand Clap Level, Open Hi-Hat Level & Open Hi-Hat decay. Oddly enough missing the original back grill screws. Doesn’t make it less secure or anything weird like that. Actually didn’t even notice until I started taking pics to make this listing…Ha!
That’s it. Absolutely nothing left out!” Link
