roland rs292 “Vintage 1976 collectors item Roland RS 202 all analog string synth with case top in great playing shape. Wear from years in the normal spots, one small scratch/gouge on the metal casing left hand side. The ensemble/chorus switch is scratchy, but works and does not ad noise while playing, only while switching from off to one or two, other than that is works fine.” Link

“The RS-202 is a string and brass synthesizer, released. The RS-202 has two key features: a user-controlled delay for the vibrato, and an Ensemble/Chorus effect (that would be seen on dozens of future Roland analog synths for years, including the Junos and Jupiters). It makes the ultimate “disco” string sound. The RS-202 is fully polyphonic (all 61 keys can play simultaneously). Basically three sound presets are in the RS-202: Strings I, Strings II and Brass. Personally I’ve never really used the brass, because this machine is all about the strings, and for a time it was considered Roland’s finest string machine. Strings I covers low cello & bass type sounds and Strings II is thinner and in the higher registers for Viola and Violin type sounds. The keyboard is permanently split into two separate sections, the lower 2 octaves and the upper 3 octaves. Each section has it’s own set of identical controls. These include three white On/Off buttons for each of the three sound presets. This means you can assign any sound to each section, and any combination; For example, set the lower section to Strings II and set the upper section to Strings I+II+Brass if you like. There are also two grey buttons in each section for “Slow Attack” and “Volume Soft”. Each section also has its own sustain slider and there are global brilliance sliders for the brass and string sections independently.” Link

“here are two vintage string synths that are rather hard to come by

both synths are not currently working the 101 was suffering power problems but this is from faulty connections the transformers have been tested and are working the rs-101 is in a well used state but has worked ok for me in the past until the connection problem.

the rs 202 was given to me as a thank-you for an 18th i arranged after noticing it in a corner apparently they were going to tip it and so i more than happily took it off their hands it had only one problem a dead note which i just avoided when using until i was told it was a simple fix and so both synths were taken to be looked at by a friend of the family who was a former electrician. however after a first look they were left in pieces and i have been told he no-longer has the time to fix them the 202 now has disconnected wires inside and so doesn’t make a sound but a simple fix

unfortunately there are screws and bolts missing from both and i will look for them but they will be cheap enough to replace

once fixed these synths will be worth allot more than i ask for them and i saw a single faulty 202 go for £240 (dead keys)

i would love to get them working again but as i don’t have the time or money to get them working i feel it is better to sell them to someone who could repair them ” Link

“Up for sale is my Roland Strings RS-202, a truly vintage and classic machine. A fantastic sounding analog string and brass synthesizer which launched Roland’s signature Ensemble effect. Built in to a suit-case style housing this item is in very good condition for its age (mid 70′s). Everything works as it should, it sounds great and there is no crackle on any of the faders or switches. It has some cosmetic fading on the switches and a few scratches/marks on the case but it’s the very least you’d expect for an instrument of its age. All the keys work and are in pristine condition.” Link

“This Roland RS 202 is fair cosmetic condition, but plays and sounds great. It was recently serviced and the tech said it was the best sounding unit he’d seen. The chorus is full and lush just like you’d want. It comes with its own built in hard case and cord compartment.” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.

“The RS-202 is a truly vintage and classic machine that gives you a great variety of string synth sounds. The keyboard spans five octaves and comes in a suitcase kind of casing for easier transport. The synth has 1/4″ outputs for both low and high impedance, as well as a gate output. It doesn’t have any pitch or modulation wheels, but it’s a fully polyphonic synth and has it’s own power cord built in.

“rom The personal collection of Paul Savoy:

Paul is the guitarist and main songwriter for A-ha, one of the most successful bands of the 1980s. He has written most of the band’s biggest hits, including “The Sun Always Shines on T.V.”, “Hunting High and Low”, “Take on Me”, the James Bond theme “The Living Daylights” and the ballad “Summer Moved On”. Mr. Savoy is a patron of the Woodstock Music Shop.

Cosmetically 6/10 with scuffs and scratches on casing, some paint starting to wear off, missing case lid and flap that covers the power cord cubby. Works great except for ensemble switch, which is intermittent but will work in “I” position.” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.

“This one needs a little TLC but seems to function fine from what I can tell (I don’t know much about synthesizers) . It does have a few pops, cracks, and rattles for which we won’t charge any extra!!!! I think it just needs a good servicing, it has not been used in years. It also needs a good cleaning. The spots on the keys looks like tape residue. The case is a little rough, but works fine also.” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.

“It is in full working order. The only problems are the lack of the 2nd half of the case ( hence my low starting bid) and the power lead cover has come off. This was my dad’s synth. He loved playing it but I’m afraid I am a VST nerd with a small house and have no space for real instruments!!” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.

“Vintage Roland RS-202 String Synthesiser.

In very good condition for age,the flight case has a couple of marks and a rip on the vinyl,

on the keyboard itself the top of the tune key is chipped but it still works

fine and a small amount of paint is missing by the volume slider.

Apart from that it’s in good working order and sounds beautiful.” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.

“Very cool vintage Roland Synth. Awesome analog String/Brass sounds. Built in case. Cosmetically in good condition for its age. Tolex is fine, no tears. Sounds awesome except there are 5-6 keys which play quieter than the rest. Should be an easy fix to make it 100%. Great vintage piece.” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.

I’m selling a Roland Rs-202 analog string synthesizer from the mid 1970s. The item is in ok shape and works 100%.

I got this synth in a a trade recently and decided not to keep it. It was looked over by my tech Ramcur, he fixed the tuning pot and had a look at everything else. It works great and sounds amazing. String synths have a nice dreamy sound that even vintage polyphonic synths can’t touch!

It comes with its lid, making it easy to carry. The case has some marks but is still in good condition. The synth itself has signs of wear, lots of paint dings have been sharpied so it still looks pretty good, have a look at the pics for more details.” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.

“You are bidding / buying one ROLAND RS-202 in great working condition. Overall condition is GOOD there is some tolex missing on the left lower side of the protective case. Top half of case can be removed, synth lives in the bottom half. Amazing analog string sounds, I have had an ARP Solina and I think the RS-202 is a thicker better sounding synth with more sound shaping capability.” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.

“For Sale is a Roland RS-202 String Ensemble. It is currently not working. I stopped playing back in the day and stored this Keyboard at my sister’s house. It worked great prior to placing it in storage. I tried it out a few weeks ago and it is not working. There is evidently no power going into the unit since the red power light does not light up. Maybe a blown fuse? The Keyboard has 61 keys, also plays brass sounds as well as string sounds, and of course has a lid for protection. The unit is still in excellent physical shape! The Keyboard was purchased new for a price of $999.95. It has been stored in an environment free of dirt, dust, excessive heat and humidity. Whatever the problem is, I do not think it is major. I always treated my equipment with the utmost care” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.

“I’m selling this classic keyboard for a friend, who doesn’t play. It’s designed to create the sound of a string or brass ensemble (or both), and has a particularly delicious chorus effect (Roland are good at those!). It dates from the 1970s, so predates MIDI.

The item is in reasonable condition – everything works, although one or two of the faders are a bit crackly (as is common on items of this age) and could do with some contact cleaner spray. The physical condition isn’t perfect, but it’s been looked after well and hasn’t been knocked about, judging by its appearance. It is built into its own flightcase, and the lid has a bent-wire music stand which can be removed and slotted into two small holes on the top of the instrument.” Auction ended.
