cr8 “This drum machine was used as accompaniment for an acoustic guitar player in the early 1980′s. It has since been stored away for a number of years. I got it about 10 years ago from the original owner as part of a purchase of all his gear. Unfamiliar with it, and no need for it, I put it away and never used it.

I plugged it in and tried the buttons, turned knobs, and messed around with the sounds and everything seemed to work. The only issue I could find was the Bank Selector 2 button (yellow) would not activate by pushing it directly. It does work when you slide your finger from either of the other bank Selector buttons. My guess is it needs to be cleaned, maybe just needs using, maybe there is another button I needed to has in play. I have adjusted my starting price in consideration. Otherwise this is a nice example of the CR8000 machine.” Link

cr8000 “Up for auction is this Roland CR-8000 CompuRhythm, Micro Computer Controlled Rhythm Machine. The machine is working however the buttons will need to be serviced (cleaned). Bank 1,2,3 light up Swing 1 and 2 , Habanera, BD4, Rock 2 and 6, Basso-Nova, Rumba, Merengue, Samba 2. Cy8, Ct4 and others work. auto fill and Register seem to work. With a good service of the buttons you will on your way to lots of fun. Note: I had an update to the machine when I first bought it. I had a tech install a small switch on the back. This would toggle between the cowbell and a nice side stick to the snare (for ballads). The wires to the switch came off I soldered them back on but the button does not work to test it. The update is good to the board but you may have to check the switch (no big deal). The snare side stick is on one of the presets so it was already in the machine. I am selling the CR-8000 AS IS because of the issues described above .” Link

cr-8000 “The Roland CompuRhythm CR-8000 is a classical Roland Drum machine with some great Roland sounds in it. The hi hat sounds are great and it has a good accent function as well as its own character.

I bought it second hand a few years ago and it has been stored in my studio.

It seems to be in fairly good working order.

The top of the drum machine shows some staining and discolouration which was there when I bought it (see photo).

There are a few scratches on the underside of the drum machine box (see picture) which don’t affect its performance.” Link

cr8000“Roland CR-8000 Vintage Drum Machine Complete Service Done 12hours of work.
All push button switches have been removed and cleaned. Contacts have been treated with CaiKote 44 a repair solution for membrane buttons. All push buttons now work 100% and should be good for another 20 years. :)
All electrolytic caps and some ceramic caps have been replaced. Added individual outputs 1/8”/3.5mm for each of the instruments volume pots which controls the volume to the added output jack. Also a 1/8” 3.5mm master output has been added in case you want to plug this into a EuroRack modular, the 1/4 jack still works too.
3 new AA batteries have been installed which hold user patterns when the machine is off. Tested with a few patterns i programmed into memory.
CR8000 is in great working order but just so signs of its age. Cleaned it up as best i could. What you see in the pictures posted is what you get. Also added a new power switch as the original was defective, and a new 3 prong A/C 120v power cord.” Link

cr8000 project “Vintage Roland Compurhythm CR-8000 parts and repair also some parts for Roland TR-808 (many of the knobs look the same to me)

Powers on but that is all I can test. Many of the LED’s work but too many are on at one time. FOR PARTS OR REPAIR ONLY.

I opened it up (see photo’s) and found that 3 of the very small wires detached from the top motherboard. Before I opened it up the Tempo LED and dial was working and changing value, so it looks like I did it.

In general this unit has all the parts there but some of the connectors have corrosion to be sure. Not sure of the history of the unit.

Also it has pair of 1/4 jacks that are soldered to a cable for some sort of a custom control reason. I do not know why so I left it as is.

Great source of vintage parts for the Compurhythm CR-8000 and knobs and maybe more for the Roland TR-808.” Link

“Up for sale is a vintage Roland CR-8000 analog drum machine.
It is functional and programmable, and battery back up retains programmed rhythms.

The din sync works if you want to sync it to your sequencer or sync up other roland gear like the tb303, tr606, tr808 and tr909.

Cosmetically, this thing has seen better days, but it has a ton of character.
The black tape on the side hides a row of drilled holes (modification never implemented). There are scratches all over and no battery cover. There is a cool vintage Plastikman sticker on top of the unit. Ready to make some acid music!
The broken thing is the intro/fill in selector is broken and one of the buttons is glued on.
(I am including the broken switch for reference)
Price is set low because of those issues.

As for the analog drum sounds, they are classic. I used to run it through some distortion to really give it a cool sound. Also, this unit can be modified to add potentiometers to the drum sounds to adjust the individual drum voice” Link

“Works well but a few of the buttons need to be pushed a little harder to stay lit. Also I could not get the “shuffle” button to light up, and I’m not sure if I was just in the wrong mode or what exactly why it was not functioning. I have not used it in years and have forgotten how. Some light to moderate scratches on the unit and some visible wear. Time to let it go to someone that will make proper use of this awesome machine. Sold AS IS but guaranteed to function as described. Comes with original footswitch and dust cover. I have since misplaced the manual, but if found I will send it to the new owner at no cost.” Link

This item has had some beneficial work done on it. The normally faded yellow case was repainted lake placid blue by the previous owner before i purchased it. All of the normally problematic key-switch buttons have been replaced recently!!!!! There are super tough tactile style buttons installed, they are very similar to the type that go into video game controllers rated at better than 10000 cycles and they preform flawlessly as they should. These buttons should last for as long as the machine is still working. So, that the buttons retain the correct height and look they have been attached to plastic parts that link up with the modern tactile buttons below. They have a good firm push accompanied by a click when pressed. The old switches bash down like an old computer keyboard keys if you’ve never used one of these. I have also replaced a few led lights with blue leds and they look great.” Link

“This is a used, partially working vintage Roland CompuRhythm CR-8000 “micro computer controlled rhythm machine,” circa 1981 or so.

Power turns on and it does make sounds through the output – most of the buttons seem to work ok, some do not.
This is apparently a common problem with these CompuRhythm machines, and it is something that can be fixed.
I found a site called GumiElectronic (http://www.gumielectronic.net/?cat=1) that discusses the issues; the guy also can apparently repair the buttons for a fee.
There are probably other sources for repairs as well.

The machine looks pretty good for a used 30+ year old unit, with some scuffs and scratches.
It definitely has a vintage look, and also comes with a plastic cover and original Owner’s Manual.” Link

“Up for sale is one Roland Cr 8000 with midi sync box. This Cr is one of a kind it has been serviced and modded by Josh Gumiela. Josh is an excellent tech and offers servicing and mods for the cr 8000 and is highly recomened. This unit has had extensive servicing including recapped power supply and most of caps of the voice board . Transistors q4 through q17 have been replaced. All pots have been clean and lubed and all buttons have been de soldered cleaned and fitted with new copper contacts and function as new. The mods done include six individual outs. Josh has also added tuning and distortion pots and switches. These mods are for the snare and Tom. The snare mod adds tuning and snap which adds more white noise . The Tom mod turns the Tom into one huge bass drum with tuning drive and distortion . It really sounds fantastic and in my opion sounds as good as my 808. As you can see in the pictures the unit is in very good condition for its age. It does Have a few scratches and blemishes on the case and a couple of the screw posts on the inside were cracked with age but those have also been repaired. I’m am also including in the auction a midi sync box that allows the cr to sync to your DAW. The Roland Cr 8000 is a real sleeper of drum machines and highly underrated and in my opinion has the best clap and hi hat of any analog machine. Also the swing function is so funky. I wish my 808 had it. In fact with these mods and the new kick drum it really is a poor mans 808. I have spent close to 500 on all mods, parts and servicing. With all of the work that has been done on this Cr it should be trouble free for years to come.” Link

I’m selling a Roland CR-8000 vintage analog drum machine from 1980. It’s in great condition and works 100%.

I am the second owner, it only saw studio use and was put in storage most if its life. It’s not yellowed like many other specimens!

I had a competent technician redo all the buttons contacts, they now work flawlessly!

The CR-8000 is a very nice analog machine from the classic era, it shares some of it sound with the legendary TR-808 and can also be programmed. In addition it has a nice selection of patterns that can be combined and modified by adding and removing different instruments with the top row buttons.

Overall its a very useful studio tool once synced via its Dinsync input. Alternately it can be the center of your setup if used the classic way with its Dinsync and triggers outputs.

I’ve just installed a set of fresh Duracells for the pattern memory, these should be changed every year or so to retain patterns.”
