“What you get. Roland CMU-800. Apple IIe computer(Has had power supply rebuilt) and Apple IIe Owners Manual. Video Monitor.MPC Electronics Sync track so you can control the CMU from your din sync equipment(timing sounds better to me doing it this way around than syncing from the CMU, but you can do it that way if you want, with some experimentation)
This is a fairly unique opportunity to get hold of a Roland CMU-800, and the computer required to run it, with an easy to use and space saving SD card floppy disk system, without having to spend months/years trying to put your own set-up together. Buy it all in one go and take all the ball ache out of the equation. Hook it up to your CV/Gate synths and start making music now.
Mint condition and working Roland CMU-800 8 channel CV/Gate Sequencer and manual, with built in 7 voice analogue drum machine supposedly similar to the TR-606.(I actually prefer the CMU’s drums as they seem cleaner and snappier to me than the 606.The hats are also better in my opinion.” Link
“The Roland CMU-800 is a four-channel mixer with internal preset voices and sequencer software for an Apple II or PC. There is a ribbon cable out the back with a card attached. It features analog synthesis with fixed sounds. Four note polyphony in the chord section, monophonic bass and melody synth sections, and an analog drum section.
The Chord/Melody section has only 1 sound. The drum section is similar to the TR-606 Drumatix, and the bass section is similar to the TB-303 Bassline (some limited adjustments in sound were possible via software). It has separate melody, bass, chord, rhythm, mix outputs. There’s also 8 cv/gate outs to run external analog equipment by control voltages, and there’s a click in/out. On the face it has knobs for portamento, Melody sustain & decay, Bass decay, and Chord decay. It also has volume level sliders for each of the instruments and a master volume slider. The software uses a similar music programming method as the MC-8 or MC-4.
This unit being offered is in EXCELLENT working condition – actual photos shown.” Link
“This auction is for a Roland CMU 800 computer module sequencer/drum machine in pieces for parts or a project. I borrowed a fuse from my other project CMU and the unit powers up. It could possibly be pieced back together and used for its intended purpose provided you could find the correct ribbon connector, interface card, and software. I make no guarantees as to its functionality though. My recommended use for this unit is to use as an analog drum module. I have successfully triggered the great analog drum sounds these units have off the lower board. They are reminiscent of Roland TR 606 and Boss DR 110 sounds. Also, the power supply could be useful for you modular guys as it outputs 15v bipolar and 5v. It is missing the ribbon connector for the interface card, the screws that hold the lower board to the upper board, the screws that hold the body together, the power supply fuse, and the connector that connects the power supply to the lower board. I will include an additional connector cable that connects the power from the lower board to the upper board. It is too short in its present state to connect the power supply to the lower board when assembled correctly, but could be extended. Cosmetically, it is beat up pretty badly. There are spots of rust, remnants of stickers, marker, and the US Navy property metal sticker. That’s right, this is military surplus. This unit is obviously sold as-is.” Link
“This is a mint condition roland cmu 800.
This is supposed contain the guts of a roland tr 606 analogue drum machine as well as a close cousin of the famous tab 303, some sort of poly synth and four channels of cv gate for external gear.
It comes in its original box and packaging and is essentially a new item . Think museum quality piece.
I honestly think this item has never been used. Selling it as I was never able to locate an apple 2 or commodore c64 to use it. Looks like there are plenty of mods discussed about it on the net.” Link

“I am selling a vintage Roland Compu Music CMU-800R. I know little about this unit other than it looks like a sequencer/mixer. Powers up wonderfully. Because I can’t test this unit, it’s being sold as-is.” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.
“This is a quality built vintage piece that we know nothing about except that it is supposedly a very early analog synth (or control surface??) that integrates with Apple or Commodore Computers. Cosmetically, it has a few scrapes, but still looks good. Electronically… at the least, it NEEDS A REPAIR TO THE RIBBON CABLE, (has possible punctures, tears and / or abrasions), so unless you can solder and rig some jumpers into the bad spots, this may not be the one you should bid on. Great parts though! A quality case, knobs and faders, if nothing else.
Appears to be new, but it is untested with visible scrapes and ribbon cable problems… no supporting docs or software, except for this link to a manual we found online” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.

“Up for sale is a Roland CMU-800R which comes with its original box and Apple interface card. Neither the manual or the software are included with this auction, I assume these went away with our old Apple computer at a yard sale many years ago. The unit powers on, but since I don’t have the software, no further testing has been done so this is being sold as-is with no returns. Picture is of actual item for sale. Box has some shelfwear and a small stain on the front. Comes from a smoke-free environment. ” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.
“THE FACE IS ABOUT 13 INCHES BY 7 INCHES AND IT WEIGHS JUST OVER 6&1/2 POUNDS. I HAVE NO IDEA IF IT WORKS OR NOT, THE POWER LIGHT LIGHTS UP WHEN PLUGGED IN, THATS ALL I KNOW. THIS UNIT IS BEING SOLD AS-IS. COSMETICALLY IT LOOKS LIKE IT WAS WELL TAKEN CARE OF. ” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.
“First, thanks for viewing my auction. Up for auction is a Roland CMU-800R Analog Synth / Drum machine. Very rare to find one of these in this condition, complete with the Apple IIe software and interface card. It has a Bass Channel (mono), Lead Channel (mono), Chord Channel (4 note poly), and Drum Channel (TR-606 drum sounds). It also has 8 Channels of CV(0 5.25v, 1v/octave) out and 8 channels of Gate out (0-12v), which would compliment the CMU-810 sister synthesizer or other analogs using CV-Gate. This particular unit was found in the basement of a music school with another flawless unit, some confused person had marked on the box sound mixer.” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.
“Roland Compu Music CMU-800 up for auction. This is in good working condition and almost looks like new. I don’t know much about these so if you’re not familiar with it, google it for some more info. From what I understand these are almost impossible to find with interface and software. It comes with manual, interface and software for the C-64. This the only one I have ever seen with C-64 interface and software from all the searching I’ve done on the net. Good luck bidding.” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.
“Up for auction is the extremely rare Roland CMU-800 Compu Music with Commodore 64 software, interface and manual as well as the even more desireable Roland Compu Synth CMU-810 with manual. There is even some extra paperwork from a computer magazine and some songs saved on disk. This package is in almost new condition. I’ve seen a couple of these sell on here but never with the commodore 64 interface and software. This would be a great addition to your collection. The auction is for everything you see here. I would like to sell them in a set.” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.

“OU ARE BIDDING ON A ROLAND COMPU-MUSIC, MODEL # CMU-800. THIS IS A UNIQUE ITEM. THEY DO NOT MAKE THESE ANYMORE. The CMU-800 is a little four-channel mixer with internal preset voices and sequencer software for an Apple II or PC. There is a ribbon cable out the back with a card attached. It features analog synthesis with fixed sounds. Four note polyphony in the chord section, monophonic bass and melody synth sections, and an analog drum section.” Auction ended. “Innovative computer music module from Roland. Works great; comes with attached AC cord and multi-pin cable to connect to Apple II computer. Does not come with Apple II computer, connecting card inside of computer, or software, but all are readily available on the www. No dents or dings, possibly a view light scratches but nothing detectable. We used this with an early-generation Apple computer and then I intended to convert it to MIDI operation – there are schematics about how to do this on the www – but now I have run out of time and initiative, so it’s a fun project that will have to go into the incomplete column, perhaps you can take it on!” Auction ended. “Reasonably rare Roland CompuMusic CMU-800R. I got this about a decade ago with the intention of finding an Apple computer to hook it up to and get it working. For a variety of reasons (time, procrastination) I never implemented this project so now it is time for somebody else to attempt to do so. It comes with the connecting cable. You will need the appropriate early-generation Apple computer with the appropriate card, together with software. Another prospect is to get rid of the computer interface and convert it to MIDI. I have seen plans and schematics on the Internet about how to do this, which would require an intermediate degree of electronic knowledge. As with the other approach I simply have not had enough initiative to do this. I have heard these machines once they get set up and they sound great. The cosmetics on this unit are excellent with the exception of one minor scratch as depicted on the bottom about 2/3 of the way across.” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.
