When I got this unit there was something rattling inside so I took it to a repair shop and had them check it out. It turned out that what was rattling was two small tabs that screws go into that hold the top on. This is very insignificant to the structural integrity of the unit.

The KR55 was, for its time (1979), an advanced preset rhythm drum machine with up to 96 preset rhythm patterns! These patterns cover the whole gamut of presets (Waltz, Samba, Rhumba, Bossa Nova, Tango, Slow Rock, Swing, Rock, etc.). The KR55 also featured a “swing beat” control to add a variation to the groove. Each drum sound’s level can be individually adjusted for each pattern. It can also be externally controlled via footswitch jack for the Start/Stop and Intro/Fill switches.

It has 48 preset rhythms (including discos, rock, latin beats, waltz, and even 5/4 patterns!), and you can add the swing beat to each rhythm. Cosmetically its not in the best shape – it has some scratches on the top cover, and there is a chunk of the cover missing on the lower front and a small piece missing on back (see pics). “This is the darker, more experimental and edgy version of the KR-55 that is all over the early Vince Clark stuff. While the pop / rock / disco material that the KR-55 excels at is still adequately represented here, you also get a lot of progressive / alternative / jazz beats with odd time signatures. The 55B also has twice as many presets as the 55. The 55 and 55B have very low noise floors, and the quality of sound is breathtaking.
This particular unit has a damaged plastic housing, which is clearly visible in the photos. However, only the plastic housing is damaged. Every button, dial and switch functions and feels great. No scratchy pots, no buttons that have to pressed a little harder than others; I tested the foot switch inserts and they also work perfectly. If it weren’t for the damaged plastic housing this unit would be worth a lot more than it will sell for. If you were ambitious, you could pimp it out in a plexiglass or wood housing and have the sexiest drum machine on the block.” Link

“The good news is that the machine works great; all buttons and knobs are good and they sound is great.
The bad news is that there is damaged on the plastic housing on the back and underneath. I covered up with tape to hold the pieces together and left a hole opened so you can see the picture. I will cover that with tape also. Tape seems to hold it just fine and it does not affect in any way the proper functionality. The top and front looks good.
It comes in a vintage hard case with pedal. The pedal hasn’t been used in years and was not tested.

Alle Taster und Funktionen gehen einwandfrei, alle Potis knisterfrei. Auf der Oberfläche ist eine kleine Brandmulde zu erkennen, macht aber keine Probleme.
Der Sound ist legendär, die DM „Speak and Spell“ ist damit produziert worden. Der KR55 hat sehr schöne HiHats, und der Bass hat schön wucht, die SD ist einzigartig, gibt’s nur in der KR / KPR Serie, sehr charakteristisch!
Der Klang setzt sich in den Mix sehr gut durch, hat einen Trigger out (16“-1“, Bass) zum ansteuern von z.B. einen Arpegiator oder anderen Clock IN / Filter CV ect. Eingängen.
48 Presets sind einzeln anwählbar, durch die einzelnen Volumepotis sind viele Variationen möglich, und hat eines der besten Fill ins. Anders als bei z.B. Roland CR’s sind für jedes Preset neue Fil ins/Intros programiert worden (auch per Fusschalter ext. triggerbar)” Link
