Chip for brains or Technology transplant no longer makes this so it’s hard to find one in good working condition. All keys, knobs/switches, pitch/mod wheel seem to work. It hard to tell if it performs their main function as the voices are bad. Missing one master tune plastic knob cap.

“This synth is in very good condition, never been gigged, and stored in a smoke-free, temperature controlled environment. One key, second lowest F#, seems intermittent, but response improved every time I hit it, so I’m guessing it’s just a bad contact that should get better with time. Either way, it’s easily serviceable and should not pose a critical issue. All knobs and buttons work noise-free, all jacks seem tight and reliable.

I upgraded the keypad a short while ago with a modern version from Technology Transplant that seems more reliable and should last a long time. I don’t think the replacement keypad is even available anymore. and it seems like one of those design-flaw inevitable failure points. No need to worry here.

My tech cleaned all the controls & contacts. All keys, knobs/switches, pitch/mod wheel works.

“Your looking at a very nice Sequential Circuits Prophet 600 Analog Sythesizer just recently serviced by Matt Cunitz at Vintage Keyboard Repair in Berkeley, CA. Check out his website at analogsynthservice.com. He went through and did a basic tune up and cleaning. The synthesizer needed very little work, pots cleaned, some tuning, capasitors. I bought it locally from an original owner who hadn’t used it in years. It had been sitting inside his house in its original box. As you can see from the pics, it shows very little signs of use. Some ugly scratches on the bottom as shown..and a few little scuffs on the left hand wood panel as shown. Other than that..looks flawless, the main panel has no scratches..looks close to new. The keys look excellent as well…perfectly level and just a few minor invisible scuffs. Original manual, tape, pedal and box incuded…the keybord sounds fantastic!!! All of the functions of this keyboard work perfectly and are up to date. The repair guy checked everything. The only thing he mentioned was the power switch…its fine but he said sometimes you have to toggle it a bit to get it to come on but usually it comes on with the first try. The switch may need to be replaced sometime in the near future but for now it works fine. All other switches,knobs,displays are functioning flawlessly.” Link

” I’m selling my wonderful Prophet 600 because I simply don’t use it anymore. Aside from some cosmetic wear, this synthesizer works perfectly. There is not one dead voice or malfunction on this synth. Several years ago I had the membrane pad replaced by Transplant Technology so that is new and you won’t have to worry about it going bad. Cosmetically this synth has some of the knob labels worn off. Specifically, the master volume knob’s label is worn off and so is the portamento control which is normally labeled “glide”. Also, the wood end pieces are looking worn with chips, dings and scratches and the chassis has some scratches on it as well. Otherwise, this synth is in great condition and has awesome tone.

Years ago, before the final operating system was released for this synth, the midi channel was fixed on 16 and could not be changed. This could have been problematic if you were daisy chaining this synth through other synths because you could have unwanted doubling of sounds on channel 16. The previous owner of this synth modded this instrument to allow him to enable/disable both the MIDI IN and MIDI OUT to avoid such a scenario. These are the switches you see above the mod and pitch wheels, as well as the accompanying lights below them. This modification is no longer relevant as the latest and final operating system has been installed in this synth and you can freely change the MIDI channel to whatever channel you want. But if you did want to disable the MIDI for whatever reason, you could. It’s there.

Included with this auction is a power cable, an audio cable, and a soft case that works well for protecting the synth during transport but is not the best for carrying as the outside fabric where the handles are is frayed and worn down. This is evident in the last photo. If you’re looking for one of these, you might not find a fully working specimen like mine, so take a shot and make a bid. Thanks for looking at my auction.” Link

“If you’re reading this, I’m sure you know how powerful of a synth SCI Prophet 600 is. You get the sound of the famous Prophet 5 at a fraction of the cost.

This Prophet 600 has been professionally serviced. The following work has been done to it:

- all key contacts restored

- front panel replaced (cost me $200 on Wine Country Sequential, was done because the infamous keypad wasn’t working on the original panel)

I fully tested the synth’s MIDI and it seemed to work perfectly in Logic. See photos for cosmetic condition.

IMPORTANT!

The synth still has one lingering flaw. One of the voices is not affected by the filter envelope. Please, mind that there is a very easy work-around. All you have to do is press Record+7 while holding down the key that represents the bad voice. After that, the voice is defeated and you don’t have to deal with this until you restart the synth. The downside is that you only have 5 voices left.

Synth is in working condition and I have noticed small intermittent issues over the years like the volume knob sticking but it’s nothing that powering down and back up can’t fix. “Fully Working Sequential Circuits Prophet 600 MIDI synthesizer with data tapes and manuals!!!

This is a Prophet 600 I’ve owned for 13 years or so; it’s been inside a studio for the past decade. It was serviced in 2009 to replace the membrane pad and some matrix scanning chips, but all the oscillator and filter chips are original.

I’m not copy/pasting websites here, synth fans know their gear and you can search for specifics if you need to… this does have the final ROM chip and a new membrane for choosing presets which works well, I’ll include the old membrane pad too.

This board sounds GREAT, I know there’s some people who don’t like the software envelope timing but I’ve never had an issue with punchy sounds although I’m more of a stringer fan myself. I’m selling this because I got a Prophet 08 this year; although the 08 is a better synthesizer (of course!) the 600 just seems to have thicker or better oscillators and fuller filters somehow… at least this one does in head to head patch comparisons.

I just can’t justify keeping both though, so my loss is your gain!” Link

“This Prophet 600 just had a complete going-over by EARS Music in New York. The intake tape with the job number is still stuck to the side panel. Everyone who is seriously interested should know what this synth does and what it sounds like by now.

Best used for Industrial or hard techno sounds but you can also coax out some very gentle strings. Unfortunately the patches were lost while it was in for servicing. So you have to re-program most of the sounds besides what the repair guys put in for testing.

There are .wav files online if you prefer presets, but this is the type of synth you buy if you want to program your own sounds hands-on from scratch.

“This legendary synth is in EXCELLENT physical and functional condition. The membrane pad works great, all knobs, switches and functions work. Only very minor blemishes on the metal casing. The wood end panels have some natural “relicing” but aren’t cracked or gouged etc.

The synth sounds amazing. It can go from haunting pads to ripping unison/sync leads to juicy analog blurps and squelches effortlessly. Just an amazing synth I’m sad to part with, but too many synths, too little time.

As is widely known, Prophet 600s are a bit quirky and will experience some anomalies from time to time when editing. All three of mine have been this way. It’s like the digital chips that control the analog hardware get hung up a bit, then “remember” what they were doing. Thought synth is in near perfect condition I thought I’d note this. Some users online have claimed that spraying the pots can help this a bit, as the information sent to the microchips is more smooth, but given that all pots and switches are tight, smooth, and static free I thought this synth is better off “unserviced.” ” Link

“This P600 has just been serviced at the GoodGuys in St. Paul MN, who are well known for vintage synth repair, and have been fixing them since they were new for more than 30 years, and is in 100% working condition. All membrane switches, knobs and switches work. The arppegiator and sequencer work well, midi control works well, and the patch memory is solid. Cosmetic condition is quite good. The sides were always cheap particle board, so they don’t look pristine, but it’s typical for a prophet 600. You can get a nice, real wood, replacement set online, but it’s hardly necessary.” Link

Save for some minor chipping in the wood paneling in the upper-left corner, the synth is in excellent shape, which is rare for synths of this age. All features work well, including the memory and inputs. I don’t even think there are any scratchy pots, from what I can tell and the keys are very clean. After it warms up for a few minutes and the auto-tune is run, it stays in tune very well. I have owned this synth for about 6 years and have kept it in pristine shape. Sadly, I just didn’t get around to using this very much. It will come with a standard 3-prong power cord and photocopied manual(not shown). Like anything of this age, the synth is being sold as-is and would probably benefit from a decent cleaning/calibration as pretty much every piece of gear this old does.” Link

“Up for auction is a Sequential Circuits Prophet 600 vintage polyphonic analog synthesizer, manufactured in 1982. It was the first commercially available synthesizer with built-in MIDI capabilities and has a built-in sequencer, an arpeggiator, 6 voices (that each have two oscillators, two filters, and their own independent ADSR envelopes) and much more! It’s in excellent cosmetic condition: all knobs, switches, sliders, buttons, keys, wood panels and metal casing are intact and unscathed (see photo). The unit does have one issue, which, according to my research, can be corrected with a little bit of work. Some of the keys (about half) have difficulty firing when pressed normally, a common occurrence with Prophet 600s which indicates that the contacts are dirty or aren’t depressing far enough to make a connection. I tested this hypothesis by pressing each key at the top (i.e. the opposite part that would normally be pressed) and each one worked, so you can rest assured that there are no other problems with the keys. Otherwise, the synthesizer is fully operational according to my testing. Not to mention the fact that is sounds great and is tons of fun to play with! (Although I’m sure it needs to be tuned, as all analog synthesizers do). If I were more dedicated to this piece of equipment, I would make the repairs myself and use it for recording, but I am in greater need of the money, so I’m selling it now. ” Link

“hi, you are bidding on my Sequential Circuits prophet 600 , it powers up . the things that are wrong with it are the 10 key number pad is broken and needs to be replaced only a few of the buttons on it work. the 5 keys of the right end of the keyboard are damaged and bump into each other when played and stick. and one key in the middle of keybpard does not pay at all. and other keys do not respond as they should . the keys need to be servived and cleaned , as far as i can tell all the ossilators work when played all the knobs work and change the sound of the keys . the keyboard is VERY dusty and dirty from being in storage, the wood ends of the Case are very chiped and scratched . the POWER plug on the back of keybpard is cracked and loose please see photos. it still works but power cord fits loose . comes with after market power cord, again this synth needs to be Totally serviced and cleaned . there are scuffs and scratches on keyboards . I have not tested the MIDI so it is SOLD AS is Untested MIDI . the Key number pad is broked and needs to be replaced. there are broken keys on right side of keyboard, i have not opened up keybaord i do not know about inside of unit. but synth works other then broken keypad , bad keys and untesed Midi. i think i have covered everything. please see all the photos to see condition” Link

“This is a Vintage Sequential Circuits Prophet 600 .This keyboard is awesome! Normal wear and tear for a synth this age ! The unit is in working condition and has a few knobs missing but the posts still work . This is a cheap fix for the buyer. The knobs that are missing are the oscillator b frequency knob , the mixer knob, The Resonance knob , and the envelope amount. but all work and you can turn the posts . This has never been a problem when using the synth. one of the keys is also broken but works fine. This unit is in great working order but due to age is being sold as is.” Link

“Physically in very good condition. The wooden side panels show some wear and there are some other signs of use, such as a few bent or chipped (but still functional) knobs and some minor nicks and dings on the casing. Overall, it looks great and has been treated well. Powers up fine and sounds incredible! The warmth and range of sounds is really something. There are some inconsistencies in key response from patch to patch. For instance, in one patch a random group of notes spread throughout the keyboard will not sound and in other patches the same keys will produce the desired tone.” Link

“For your consideration I have one Sequential Circuits Prophet 600 to sell. The keyboard is 100% functional and in very good physical condition. Every light, knob, button… all in perfect working and physical condition. Nothing is mashed up, bent, fercocked or anything like it. The wood trim looks good. There are no nasty scratches, only a couple of very minor dings in the woodwork that won’t even show up in the pictures. While not a Prophet 5 this is still an unreal sounding keyboard. It has a lot more preset sounds than a Prophet 5 and they all can still be manipulated. Once again, what you can get out of it is up to the user and how far he is willing to delve into it.
