“Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 (98% almost flawless). This keyboard was sold new thru us many years ago and we traded it back on other gear. Completely gone thru by a specialist tech with latest software revision. Never roaded, rarely played, absolutely beautiful. The body is almost flawless with just a little bump on the left side and a few keys have a very minor discoloring spots from age. Pre midi, serial #5923, multi voltage 110/220 AC. This is one of the nicest ones out there you will find.
Museum quality. 100% satisfaction guaranteed. No manual.” Link

“This is a rev 3 prophet-5 corpse. It does not work, does not have processor OR voice boards. It does have a beautiful original walnut cabinet, would be perfect save for a chip on left cheek, the chassis, the original power supply, complete pot board with all knobs and switches, complete Pratt-Read keyboard with all J-wires intact, digital interface, rear jacks, perfect mod-box, and has the original serial number and warranty badges. I was keeping for spares but I need to clean house.” Link

This is a Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 synthesizer with hard-shell case. This is a rev 3.x – not sure which one, probably a 3.3. Wonderful, big, bright Curtis machine. Kind of pains me to put this up for auction, but I also own an OB-Xa and the two are just a bit too similar to justify owning both. That’s really the only reason I’m selling this, because it’s a fantastic machine. Those big, amazing saw-wave and brass sounds that you always hear? This is where they come from, and they will blow you away. I’ve lost hours with this thing cranked through an amp, it is that wonderful of a playing experience. Plenty of Youtubes and sound files on the web for this. I may put up a brief demo to show that all of the keys are working, etc.

On to the condition. Cosmetically, with a 10 being “brand new” or “museum quality”, I’d say this is probably a 6 or so. Maybe a 7. It has definitely been played and there are the usual signs of wear on the exterior: scratched up bottom, some cracks/chips near the corners and screws of the wooden sides, some scratches on the panel and a few knobs that have lost their luster. Most of the exterior jacks (save the audio output) are green with a hint of corrosion. These could easily be replaced and probably should be at some point. I haven’t tested all of the jacks, but the audio output jack is new and works great. I couldn’t get my sustain pedal to work with it, but that could be for a number of reasons. I hope the photos capture the condition pretty well. If not, I can send along larger photos of specific parts of the synth. The bottom line is that this is a player’s synth, not necessarily a collector’s synth.

Electronically, save the jacks mentioned above, the synth is wonderful. 5 big, beautiful voices. Like most analogs of this vintage, it needs to warm up for a few minutes, but then it will be ready to play for hours. I’ve put about $500 into fixing the electronics. It has been professionally serviced by Midwest Music Menders here in Chicago. They replaced some bad chips and also re-bushed and leveled the keyboard for me, so it plays very well. The tuning knob and the pitch wheel do not necessarily line up exactly to the middle or bottom of their positions, but the Prophet will absolutely tune to A440 and stay there – there’s even a handy A440 button for testing. No scratchy knobs and all of them work, same with all of the keys.

I will pack the Prophet well and ship it in the hard-shell case ($100 by itself.) Get the legend for what is by far the lowest starting bid on eBay. And don’t worry, I’m not one of these crazy people that thinks they’re going to get 4 or 5 grand for a Prophet these days.” Link

“This listing is for a Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 Vintage Synthesizer, version 3.3 – 120 memory patches! The unit is 100% functional and has recently been professionally serviced and tested. It is cosmetically in great condition! There is a bit of wear around the mod wheels and the front name plate is faded. LED light for ‘Keyboard’ under Oscillator B does not light (does not affect operation). No MIDI. Comes with manual, backup cassette and recent service records. This one sounds amazing! ” Link

“You are looking at my Sequential Circuits Prophet 5, revision 3.1.

This unit has been fully gone through by my keyboard tech, and is in 100% working condition.

Here is a list of what was done:

1) replace all Pratt+Reed keyboard bushings
2) replace all CMOS chips
3) replace EPROM chipset
4) re-cap PSU
5) re-soldered any loose solder joints
6) replaced three Curtis chips
7) full calibration (not just on VCOs), including VCOs, VCAs, VCF and tuning

This Prophet 5 is ready to leave my studio and go to yours. My only reason I am selling is that I have two of them, and only need one!

This has got the be a Prophet 5 in one of the best operating conditions around !!!” Link

“Here’s a rare chance to own my lovely prophet 5 rev 2. and fully working too, no mods done to it, and is totally un-molested. and it sounds incredible, serviced and working great. it looks really nice and all badges are present and looks smart. condition is very good. ” Link

“This is an immaculate Prophet 5 version 3.3. Everything is working perfectly, recently tuned up by Jeff Blenkinsopp himself from the legendary EARS Analog Lab in NYC, the premier lab for vintage analog synthesizers in the East Coast.
From filters, to oscillators, to modulation, to keys working seamlessly, everything is 100% working perfectly. The wood condition is impeccable, bright and lucid as new, the synth has been taken care of like a spoiled child over the years. I am a an amateur weekend warrior so no gigs, non-smoking studio all the time has been its home.
The nameplates are also in immaculate condition and the same with the paint around the pitch and mod wheel which also are in perfect condition. In short, this is as good as new. Jeff himself told me that this is one of the best Prophets he has seen in years.
The back of the synth is clean, no rust, beautiful paint and nameplates. The nameplates are like new, no chipping in the paint, like factory new as you can see from the pics.

If you live in NYC you are free to stop by and give it a spin.

Extras: 2 original manuals, the original tape with all the factory programs, a cassette player which I have personally picked from Radiosack and used recently to load programs (so yes, even this feature is fully tested), and the original power chord

Also, I purchased a Long Term Survival Kit from Wine Country with front panel switches and potentiometers, and a knob, a LED and 2 I-322/CA3280 VCA ICs!!!

No midi and I wouldn’t recommend altering this museum quality piece. The sound is so warm it brings goosebumps. ” Link

“History: This P5 is a Rev 3.2, 120 presets. No midi. Serial #2987. I bought it from the second owner in March of this year (2011). From the looks of it when I first got it, it was certainly babied. I’ve had zero problems with it, with the exception of the occasional broken j-wire (easy fix). It came to me with service documentation (done by Wine Country in 2004), at which point they performed their basic checkup. I replaced the key bushings with new ones a few of weeks ago (wow, what a difference!). The keys could still be leveled a bit, but I got them pretty close (for me anyways!) Its been in my smoke free studio since the day I got it, and hasn’t moved (except to take these pictures).

Physical Condition: It’s in really good shape. Very few flaws in the wood, and the front panel is super clean; no fading. The bottom panel has some scratches, but nothing major or out of the ordinary. Pictures 5 & 6 depict the ‘biggest’ wood scratch and front panel paint chip.

Electronic Condition: All knobs, buttons, and switches function normally. I used this daily, so no scratchy pots. All lights function normally as well. All 5 voices tune up nicely.

Comes with: Original Manual, a spare name badge, and a spare j-wire.

Overall, from what I’ve seen, this is one of the nicest P5′s out there. I spent a decent amount of time with it and came up with some great sounds. Even the factory preset sounds are great. I hate the idea of letting this go, but my financial situation dictates that I must.” Link

We have restored the keyboard to its original condition by replacing al of the worn rubber key bushings, adjusting and cleaning the key contacts, and lubricating the keys. This set includes a rare poly sequencer, a road case, sustain pedal, as well as an analog I/O port. This unit ships with oiginal manual and patch charts.

“Here is the real deal! The legendary PROPHET 5 Rev 1 Synth. It is Serial number 114. Less than 200 of these units are in existance, a great collector unit that also plays great. It is in good shape with some wear, works perfectly. Recently serviced by a top Los Angeles Synth shop” Link

“I am the original owner of this keyboard which includes the owners manual. Also included with this sale is a SC, separate portable 4 octave keyboard which has 8 combination control buttons and mod & pitch bend wheels. It has been recently serviced by MARC, Inc. in Woodstock NY where the memory battery was replaced and the inside inspected and cleaned. It does not include MIDI retro-fit. Both the instrument and the portable keyboards have their own Anvil Cases which are included.
FYI: This instrument is the one used on the Larry Levan Remix of the Taanya Gardner record “Heartbeat”.
All of the buttons, knobs, and lights are functional and the original factory presets were loaded back into it when it was serviced. The program cassette is also included.
I’ve gotten many years of pleasure out of this synthesizer as it is incredibly versatile and playable. The sounds are rich and you can grab a knob and tweak a sound without losing the original preset values. I’m sure I’m going to regret selling it the minute it is gone. I want it to go to someone that can appreciate it for what it can do. ” Link

“This is a Prophet 5 Rev 3.2 in perfect working condition. I purchased this in the mid 80′s from the original owner who used it in club bands so it does show some wear. I have only used it in my home studio since, and do not use enough to justify keeping it know. I had it serviced for this sale by Wes Taggert at Analogics. It received: new 4051 chip, all new electrolytic caps, all new keyboard bushings, and a rebuilt power supply. There is no midi interface, and it is my understanding that it can not be retrofitted. 5 banks of 8 sounds, serial #2794, and comes with the original manual! Great sounds! I will miss this one” Link

“I’m selling my used Prophet 5 keyboard. It is in pretty good condition, some people might call it mint. I’d say its closer to “near mint”. There are light scratches and other minutia that one might expect from a 25yo keyboard.
Recently, in preparation for selling it, I replaced all the key bushings. Key bushings on these older keyboards would dry out and crumble. After a while you would get stuck keys and other problems. Replacing the key bushings takes a while, around 4 hours. Now it has excellent response and feel. No more sticky keys.

I bought this keyboard from a musician who specialized in microtonal scales years and years ago. I don’t play it anymore. Along with the rest of my studio gear, its time for it to go. I hope you’ll take good care of it! It sounds absolutely beautiful, and doesn’t have any problems I’m aware of.

This particular unit is model #6347, which makes it a later Rev3 model.” Link

“This listing is for a Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 Vintage Synthesizer, version 3.3 – 120 voices! The unit is 100% functional and has recently been professionally serviced and tested. It is cosmetically in great condition! There is a bit of wear around the mod wheels and the front name plate is faded. “Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 Synthesizer with road case and manuals

I am the original owner of this keyboard and I’m including the user manual as well as full schematics documentation. I am also including an Anvil road case so that the unit is protected during shipping. This unit was recently checked by Wine Country who is the official repair center for Sequential Circuits. It got a fresh battery and the key contacts were cleaned. This Prophet 5 is in really great shape for its age. It has a splinter crack in the edge wood which is hardly visible, and some of the stenciled markings around the pitch wheel have rubbed off. However, you can tell by the pictures that it looks almost like it did when it was brand new. All of the buttons, knobs, and lights are functional and the original factory presets were loaded back into it.

I’ve gotten many years of pleasure out of this synthesizer as it is incredibly versatile and playable. The sounds are rich and you can grab a knob and tweak a sound without losing the original preset values. I’ve used it to replicate the synth lead from “Frankenstein” and then hit a preset to emulate the horn section. It is great for bass sounds, electric piano and clav, and the modulation section lets you program some great sound effects. I would keep it if I had the room for it and I’m sure I’m going to regret selling it the minute it is gone. I want it to go to someone that can appreciate it for what it can do.

One of the pictures I have posted shows the serial number and rev. This unit has not been retrofitted for MIDI. This Prophet 5 was used mainly in a studio environment that was smoke free and dust filtered.

I’m not going to list all of the specs here because you either know what a Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 Synthesizer is or you can find all of the specs online. I’ve included lots of pictures so you know what you are getting.

The shipping weight in the case is 68 lbs.” Link

“Up for sale is a Prophet 5 Rev 3.2 with Midi. It’s in nearly-mint condition. I have been honest here and am showing you its flaws in the photos. This synth is in excellent condition for its age. Please see all the large pictures below.
It comes with an operation manual including diagrams of all its presets. The manual is not an original, it’s a cerlox bound photocopy which I ordered online about 10 years ago.
I’ve owned it since the 90′s. When I got it, it had power issues. I had it professionally looked at and the fuse and power cable were replaced. Since then it has worked well. The rubber bushings have all just been replaced and it plays nicely.” Link

“Here is a Prophet 5 which was the victim of a fire in our studio. Though the flames never touched the synth, the room got hot enough to warp the last octave of keys as can be seen in the pics. This causes a few of the keys to stick when playing through the keyboard. Another result is that the P5 will shut down sometimes for no apparent reason. Maybe something overheats? Not sure. We have been able sometimes to keep it on for days, and other times it only lasts an hour or so. The led readout sometimes flickers off, but a tap on the panel brings it back. Once the unit shuts down, restarting brings it right back, and the memory contents survive. The key contacts probably need cleaning after the smoke, but we used the midi, which seems to be working fine. The panel is pretty darn clean, though the wood could use some oil or stain since the heat dried it out. Serial #4931.

Anyway, this unit is sold as-is. It might be a good opportunity to grab a semi-working Prophet 5 cheap. Ask any questions, I’ll try to answer them as best I can. Gonna be sad to see this go.” Link

“Great condition ,everything works except the LED light on switch where it says keyboard (pee picture) Wook case is in very good condition . Has upgrade of 120 voices, comes with manual and 3 redundants cassette…200 programs in 5 files. ” Link

“I am the original owner of this SC Prophet 5. Purchased in 1981, this rev 3.3 underwent many modifications including a reinforced heat sync and a MIDI install. It was just (Summer 2011) overhauled by 3 Wave Music in NJ. Among other things, all the key bushings were replaced. The cabinet is in good condition. Used primarily in the ’80′s as a composition tool, the synth was pretty much in the case for the last 18-20 years. It is now working perfectly, loaded with 120 factory programs. Also included is a SC Poly Sequencer purchased in 1984. This too was worked on and is in good condition. Lastly, an Anvil Road Case, also recently re-foamed, is included. This synth has a lot of sentimental value to me, since I composed many successful pieces of music on it including CBS Sports College Football (still running) and the Nestle “Sweet Dreams” commercial which ran 1985-90. ” Link

“Up for sale is my Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 synthesiser, the daddy of `em all!,
It is in excellent condition, especially considering it was made in the early `80`s, with only a few minor scrapes on the caps of the control knobs and a 3cm sliver off the wood on the rear edge which doesn`t really stand out,
It has had very little use in the last 8 years (since the 1st child!!!)
It has midi fitted, though I`ve never used it
When I bought it (which was a long, long time ago) I was told it was a revision 3.3, however, the boards inside say 3.2, so wether the 3.3 was a software update or it is a 3.2 I really can`t say (not knowing that much about the technical side of it)
As far as I am aware it is fully working, all the presets are there, all the controls do something (though a couple of the switches don`t have the positive click action that the rest have they still work perfectly), all the keys work and the bushes don`t appear worn,
Having said that, I would highly recommend anyone interested to come and have a look at it for themselves and make up their own minds that it fulfills their requirements before bidding, as what I consider excellent may not be your idea of excellent (though I doubt it, as most people in the know who have seen it generally go “Oh Wow”)” Link

“I never thought I would be doing this, but up for auction is my beautiful Prophet 5 synthesizer. I bought this machine a few years ago from a seller that told me it had just been restored and upgraded to a rev. 3.1. I know little about the different revisions, but I am hoping the pictures will give you all the info you need.

I just played the synthesizer tonight, and it sounds beautiful, however it was giving me problems when I played it a few weeks ago – the volume would suddenly cut out, then come back when I played with the volume knob. It did not do this tonight. The other problems I know of are that the electrical cord is extremely worn where it goes into the instrument, some of the keys are uneven, and one or two need to be pressed a few times before the sound comes out. Everything else seems to work beautifully.” Link

“This is a Very rare Prophet 5 !!

Unfortunetly it is in non working condition.

Has many broken off pot shafts and missing knobs.

Also missing few pots themselves.

On inside supply board looks like it it missing large filter caps.

Supply Board is also loose inside unit. Power cable was also pulled from unit.

Not sure of the conditon of the cirucits. Might just need a supply rebuild and few pots replaced.

Many keys seem to have a thump when struck and let go. Most likely will need new key bushings as well.

If you are into rebuilding these Vintage ! units this can be a great deal for you. ” Link

“If your looking at this listing you know what your looking for …… Probably the most versatile sounding synth every made! This Prophet is in need of repair. It lights up, but no sound. Unfortunately, I have neither the time or the money to get it repaired.” Link

“This listing is for an amazing Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 REV 2 with memory expansion mod (ads x3 the amount of memory) and custom “curly maple” woodwork. “Up for bid is a non-working Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 Rev. 3.1 synthesizer. This synth powers on but produces no sound. When turned on, all (sometimes most) of the front panel LEDs light up and stay lit. There is no sound and none of the buttons respond. The Poly-Mod OscB potentiometer shaft is broken off, but the knob is included with the synthesizer. The CMOS ICs were all previously replaced and socketed.” Link

“Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 Synthesizer for sale. This unit was manufactured in April of 1981 and is most likely a revision 2 model (midi not included). It comes with the standard 40 factory preset programs arranged in 5 banks. The tones from this feature alone are quite impressive…ranging from punchy basses, smooth strings to several unique sounding effects. (I recently used this on a recording project with excellent results.)

This Prophet 5 has been recently serviced and is in ready to play condition. Aside from some name-plate fading, its appearance is like new. The unit also comes with a heavy duty Anvil flight case and original operating manual. Total weight is 81 lbs.” Link

“Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 with Remote Keyboard and Polysequencer
Up for sale is a rare Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 Rev. 3.3 synthesizer with the Remote Keyboard and the Polysequencer. This instrument is in excellent condition and has a number of unique modifications. A Yamaha CS80 touch strip has been added which offers zero indexing and up to a two octave pitch bend. This is an extremely useful addition which gives this Prophet one of the big selling points of the CS80. The existing pitch wheel still functions as expected.

This synth also has MIDI and the addition of a second control input allowing the Polysequencer and the Remote keyboard to be connected simultaneously. This unit is in beautiful condition and all of the original 120 factory programs have been restored. The cabinet is in almost perfect condition with very negligible cosmetic wear. All functions work as expected and the unit sounds great. The Remote keyboard looks absolutely brand new and works perfectly. The Polysequencer is included for free as an untested item and is not part of the price. The Prophet 5 and the Remote Keyboard will be shipped in very nice road cases and include all of the required connecting cables.

This is my baby and I hate selling it. This unit has toured with many major acts including Graham Nash, David Bowie and many others. It is a unique and one of a kind synth that still plays great and has always been loved and cared for.” Link

“This is a Sequential Circuits Prophet-5 synthesiser in excellent condition and full working order.

We are not going to take up space here listing the specifications of this legendary instrument; if you’re not familiar with the capabilities of this synthesiser then there are endless sources of information available all over the internet. Suffice to say that the Prophet-5 was a groundbreaking product in its time and remains a powerful tool in the hands of a capable keyboard player, nearly 30 years after it was first developed. It is a fully-analogue, fully-programmable, 5-voice synthesiser and, alongside the Minimoog, one of the most sampled, modelled and emulated vintage synths ever made.

It’s also an authentic piece of rock ‘n’ roll – and M.I. manufacturing – history. Founded by Dave Smith in the early 1970s, Sequential Circuits produced the Prophet-5 in 1978, when it was the first and for a while the only affordable fully-programmable polysynth in the world. Its basic architecture and user interface became the blueprint for polyphonic instruments for years to come.

Sequential Circuits was an archetypal California ‘garage’ business and Dave Smith designed the Prophet-5 from scratch in less than a year. The history of Sequential Circuits, and the achievements of Dave Smith himself, make fascinating reading for anyone interested in the history of electronic music-making.

This particular example is in full working order having spent almost all its life in a private recording studio. It has not been played properly for several years and the key contacts are dirty, resulting in some double-triggering of notes. This will probably ‘play out’ but it would be better to undertake a thorough cleaning of the keyboard contact assembly. Cosmetically, it is in good order without being a ‘museum piece’ and has a patina commensurate with its age.

The battery has recently been replaced with the correct Panasonic lithium item and we have tested the memory – a patch was saved and then the instrument was left unplugged for several weeks. When plugged in again, the patch was correct and the instrument was in tune.

At some point in the past a MIDI retrofit was professionally installed; we do not have any facilities to test this but it was working when the instrument was last used. The left side of image 6 shows the MIDI board mounted below the pitch/mod wheel assembly – it’s a Sequential Circuits factory MIDI kit and the 10.5 chipset illustrated is the final revision MIDI software set.

This is an extremely valuable, fragile musical instrument. We are NOT prepared to ship this – not anywhere, not for any reason, not at any price. Please don’t ask. This means you’ll be collecting the item from us at RH6 9SW near Gatwick Airport – that’s fine but please keep in mind you will be visiting to complete a transaction to which you are already committed. You will NOT be coming to look the thing over and decide whether you want it.” Link

I am selling my personal collection of synthesizers. This is as fine a Prophet 5 as you could find. Cosmetically and electronically in great condition.

All functions work and it is electrically, physically sound.

Key bed leveled, new key bushings and contacts cleaned recently.

Not a blemish other than a knob having a mar (as pictured).

This synthesizer has NOT been restored and it is in original condition.

Original patches.

Just a fantastic instrument all around.” Link

Polyphonic programmable analog synthesizer keyboard.

Classic / used by countless 70s and 80s artists/bands

Serviced and working great, unlike most!” Link

“Rev 3.3 Sequential Circuits Inc. Prophet 5, in excellent visual and sonic condition, This Vintage Analog synth needs no introduction, if you are a connoisseur, this is for you; the wood and corners are minty crisp and clean, and all the screen printing is as good as new.

The very minor cosmetic faults are:

1. Black paint on the metal corner where the performance wheels are situated, has worn off (approx 3mm)

2. One of the aluminium caps from one of the knobs (pulse mod) is missing

3. 2 Countersunk set screws missing from back panel

4. on some of the knobs, the black paint on the ally caps is slightly mottled

These really are the finer details, absolutely nothing else wrong. Has had new keyboard bushes in the last year, and plays fantastic and sounds like all P5s awesome, this one really is a mint example” Link

“Heres a rare chance to own my beloved prophet 5 rev 1. yes indeed working too, and it sounds incredible, serviced and working good. condition is not exactly mint, but very good condition, i have many pics, and can take any pic of any angle any time on demand, notice the pitch and mod wheels a kinda transparent on the rev 1? the pitch wheel has more range too, sold as it stands, with no refunds and no dodgy scams, zero tolerance here, this thing is for collection only, thankyou and good luck.” Link

“My Prophet-5 is in very good condition. I would say 8 or 9 out of 10. All the pots and switches work perfectly. There are very few scratches on the synthesizer and all the keys are in great condition. The only problem is a few of the keys do not seem to be making perfect contact, so the sound cuts in and out a little only when these keys are held down. The sound works perfectly when triggered over MIDI so I am certain it is a key contact issue. I am pretty sure this can be cleaned without too much trouble” Link
