NICE ARPEGGIATOR – you can go into a mode where you can add new notes to the sequence by playing them, and the sequence can be pretty long, so you can just add some notes, then play with the filters, etc
NICE doubling/quadrupling/octowhatevering feature. you can layer 2,4,or 8 (maybe 6 also) voices to play on each key press, and detune them to get a FAT sound.
LFO can be used for volume to get tremolo, pitch, or the filter, or all 3 at once.
it works! it’s in good condition, nothing majorly wrong with it physically, but not brand new looking- pretty much the type of physical shape you’d expect it to be for its age.

Technisch funktioniert der Sampler mit allen Funktionen einwandfrei, altersbedingt zeigt der Prophet jedoch einige Gebrauchsspuren. Die Taster sehen teilweise nicht mehr ganz so schön aus, und teilweise ist der Lack auch an manchen Stellen etwas angekratzt. Sollte Interesse bestehen, so kann das Gerät gerne nach Terminabsprache (Abends) besichtigt werden.

“This is a rare and lovely sampler/synth. It’s had all the upgrades available giving it 8 separate outputs and I think more memory. It was used to write the theme for the TV show ‘The Net’ back in the late 80′s or early 90′s and I’ve owned it since 1995. I had it serviced and repaired by The Synthesizer Service Centre back in 1999 and hardly used it since I moved to a smaller place. It’s a 16 bit machine that uses 4 bits for the operating system leaving 12 for the sound giving it a unique ‘edge’ and some lovely gutsy results. the built in patches are classic vintage sounds and it does wonders with whatever you record in or upload from a floppy disc. If you’re looking for that unique, authentic, vintage sound in a machine that’s a joy to mess around with look no further. I’ve loved it a lot but it needs to go to a good home where it will be used.
The down sides are. It has some damage to one of the output sockets which still works and can be easily replaced. It sometimes sends tiny amounts of midi data on the mod wheel channel which shows up on midi recorders but so far has never actually caused any midi events. Being such a unique device the OS is a bit weird but if I can get my head round it anyone can. It comes with full manuals so no problems getting it going.” Link
“HELLO! Up for auction is my SCI Prophet 2000 sampler. I have used it on all my productions. It just has a sound that no other sampler can give. It all has to do with the analog filters, lfo’s, and envelopes. I am only selling as I just bought an emulator III to handle my sampling duties. If you have never used one of these, you are missing out. Anything you sample into this baby comes out bold, big and sweet. I believe it has to do with those AWESOME FAT analog filters.

“This is a used Sequential Circuits Prophet 2000 Digital Sampling Keyboard from the mid-1980′s. It has 61 velocity sensitive keys, 8 voice polyphony, and each voice has an analog VCF and VCA, which is a very useful feature.
The keyboard works great and is in very good cosmetic condition – these are the issues that I noticed while testing for the auction:
The MIDI THRU/OUT switch is missing.
The LINE/MIC switch is stuck in the LINE position.
Otherwise, the keyboard has normal wear from usage that is not unusual for its age – some scuffs/scratches. The membrane over the EXECUTE, 1, 2, and 3 buttons has some extra wear, but the buttons all function perfectly.
I tested the basic functionality, such as the buttons and keys, the audio output, MIDI in and out. I also recorded a sample through the audio input, and stored it on a floppy disk using the built in floppy drive. I formatted the disk in the same drive before loading the sample to it. Finally, I powered off the sampler and loaded my sample from the floppy disk and verified that it worked.

“Reluctantly selling my Sequential Prophet 2000, expanded to 8 individual outs and 512KB RAM. This sampler really sounds great, can be surprisingly clean for a 12-bit sampler but lowering the sample rate will give you that classic low-fi grit! It has some unusual features for a sampler such as analogue filters and an arpeggiator. All this at a far lower price than the likes of the Emulator II are going for these days…
The voices are a bit strange/garbled when the keyboard is turned on ‘cold’ but they always work fine when restarted. Not sure why this is, maybe just a quirk of the machine? Other than this it all seems to be working as it should, it loads and saves discs OK and I’ve managed to sample into it. The disk drive is a bit fussy with older disks but I’ve tried it with some new TDK DD discs and they work perfectly. I’ve tested each of the individual outputs too and they seem fine. The pitch/mod wheels work and I’ve got signals in and out of the MIDI ports.
Cosmetically it’s in decent condition. It’s got its fair share of scuffs and scratches (as you’d expect from a 25 year old keyboard) but nothing is broken, everything works as it should. It looks like the data entry pot has been changed at some point. I’ve got an original Sequential knob that doesn’t seem to fit on the pot, that’ll be included in the sale and I’m sure fitting an original pot wouldn’t be a major problem. (They’re still available from Wine Country)
Included in the sale is a printed copy of the manual (in a massive ringbinder!) and six sample discs from Wine Country including a surprisingly good Grand Piano and some Oberheim OB8 samples that really make the most of the analogue filters.” Link

“This prophet served me well until the disk drive stopped loading samples. I have replaced the disk drive twice with no results. They spin up fine but the unit does not recognize them. Which leads me to believe that the original was probably fine and the problem lies elsewhere. Everthing else works great. Keyboard is wonderful, arpeggiator, all internal sounds, and all other controls are fine. I have lots of sampled sounds on disks that will be included. Should be a simple fix for someone who knows electronics. This is a fun instrument with very good sound quality. Wine Country Productions in California does restorations on them. Betrachtet und verwendet den Prophet heutzutage nicht mehr als ernsthaften Sampler – sondern seht ihn mehr als einen 8-Stimmigen analogen Synth (immerhin hat er schöne analoge Curtis-Filter) mit Samples im DCO statt Basis-Wellenformen – so macht die musikalische Anwendung noch richtig Sinn.
Auch der Midi-Syncbare Arpeggio macht richtig Spaß !
Das der Prophet ein “Lo-Fi” Sampler sei ist Blödsinn – die Samples sind kristallklar bei 40kHz/12bit und 70dB Signal to Noise Abstand. Aber man kann das Resultat durch den Filter sehr “dirty” oder auch warm klingen lassen.” Link

Angeboten wird ein gebrauchter und defekter Sequential Circuits SCI Prophet 2000 Sampler
Der Defekt des Samplers stellt sich wie folgt dar: Eine der 8 Stimmen funktioniert nicht. Sie bleibt stumm. Also alle 8 Tastendrücke kommt nichts. Vielleicht für eine Profi-Bastler eine kleine Sache. Das Gerät stand jetzt lange bei uns im Keller und hat an den Schraubenöffnungen leichten Rost. Zudem fehlen einige Gehäuseschrauben. Sind aber nur Standardschrauben, die ich aber leider nicht mehr habe. Das Gehäuse hat auch ein paar Macken.
Ob das Floppy-Laufwerk einwandfrei funktioniert kann ich leider nicht sagen, da ich keine Sounddisketten mehr habe.
Verkauft wird hier ein erstklassiger Vintage-Sampler von Sequential Circuits. Der Prophet 2000 ist einer von vier Samplern von SCI (Prophet 3000, 2002, Studio 440), und baugleich mit der 2002er Rackversion.
Ansonsten kann ich die Soundqualität vom Prophet 2002 nicht genug hervorheben. Zwar ist es “nur” ein 12-bit Sampler, doch oft liest man, dass er sich besser anhört als manche 16-bit Sampler. Und damit kann nur die “Sauberkeit” der Sounds gemeint sein, denn in Sachen Druck, Punch, Charakter, Wärme und allem, was man gerne an einem Sound hat, ist er ganz zweifellos jedem neueren Sampler überlegen. Wer die E-MU SP1200 kennt, weiß, was ich meine. Verantwortlich dafür sind speziell die analogen Hüllkurven und Filter, sowie die Wandler. Hört sich paradox an, aber wenn man es einmal gehört hat, kann man einfach nicht glauben, wie fett sich alles anhört, was da durchgeht! Der Emax, der den gleichen Sound wie die berühmte SP1200 hat, klingt meiner Meinung nach immer noch nicht ganz so warm und satt wie der Prophet 2000.
Nachdem ich jahrelang mit Softwaresamplern Sounds gespielt und aufgenommen (und Zeit verschwendet) habe, bin ich wieder auf die alten Sampler gekommen und kann jetzt absolut nicht mehr nachvollziehen, warum man sie nicht mehr baut oder so selten benutzt. Die beschränkte Samplekapazität ist natürlich ein Grund, aber für kurze Sounds wie Drums und Bässe ist er absolut genial. Spielt man eine Weile den Software Sampler, und haut anschließend einen der alten analogen rein, merkt man sofort den Unterschied: es macht auf einmal Spass, zu spielen!!
Der Sampler ist auf 512 kb ausgebaut und bietet damit ca. 20 Sekunden in 40 khz, und ca. 1 minute in 16 khz. Ausbauen kann man ihn meines Wissens auf 1,5 MB. ” Link

“I have owned this Sequential Prophet 2002 for about 15 years. It has not been used for a while. It has a problem where there seems to be a slow oscillator (LFO) modulating the pan of the output, so that if you were only utilizing one output, the volume would fade in and out. Even when using both left and right outputs, it is noticeable though less so. I would imagine it could be rectified but am not sure of costs etc. I have the original manual and three original sound disks. If you can get it working, it is a fantastic sounding sampler because it has a ‘sound’ as opposed to being just another generic, transparent sampler with no character. The sound is remarkably clean for a 12-bit sampler and the analog filters are sensational” Link
