You can load samples without the floppy over midi. I had been using this with just the 12 internal samples as the waveforms and got excellent results. Das Gerät befand sich 24 Jahre in Erstbesitz und reinem Wohnzimmergebrauch, wurde aber die letzten zehn Jahre nicht mehr verwendet und stand im Case auf dem Speicher.
Der Zustand ist dementsprechend neuwertig und die Optik, bis auf 2 minimale Kratzer makellos.
Das Gerät ist komplett durchgesehen – alle Keyboardtasten, Drucktasten, Regler , LED, Buchsen funktionieren einwandfrei.
Das Original-Manual (Englisch) ist vorhanden – die Original-Disketten aber leider nicht mehr auffindbar.

Betrachtet und verwendet den Prophet heutzutage nicht mehr als ernsthaften Sampler – sondern seht ihn mehr als einen 8-Stimmigen analogen Synth (immerhin hat er schöne analoge Curtis-Filter) mit Samples im DCO statt Basis-Wellenformen – so macht die musikalische Anwendung noch richtig Sinn.
Auch der Midi-Syncbare Arpeggio macht richtig Spaß !
Das der Prophet ein “Lo-Fi” Sampler sei ist Blödsinn – die Samples sind kristallklar bei 40kHz/12bit und 70dB Signal to Noise Abstand. Aber man kann das Resultat durch den Filter sehr “dirty” oder auch warm klingen lassen.” Link

It fires up great and plays the internal sounds . but the disk drive needs to be replaced before you can load and save sampled sounds with it, it only loads errors right now .

The Prophet 2000 is an 8 voice 12 bit digital audio sampler. The 2000 features a 5 octave velocity sensitive keyboard. Able to store up to 16 sounds at once, multisampling, layering and keyboard splits are possible (keyboard can be split into 8 layers). Sounds are stored onto an inbuilt double sided 3.5″ disk drive. Polyphony is “hardwired” and an arpeggiator is included. What makes the Prophet 2000 especially great is that each voice features true analog 4 pole low pass VCF, a VCA, and velocity controlled, four stage envelopes.” Link

Angeboten wird ein gebrauchter und defekter Sequential Circuits SCI Prophet 2000 Sampler
Der Defekt des Samplers stellt sich wie folgt dar: Eine der 8 Stimmen funktioniert nicht. Sie bleibt stumm. Also alle 8 Tastendrücke kommt nichts. Vielleicht für eine Profi-Bastler eine kleine Sache. Das Gerät stand jetzt lange bei uns im Keller und hat an den Schraubenöffnungen leichten Rost. Zudem fehlen einige Gehäuseschrauben. Sind aber nur Standardschrauben, die ich aber leider nicht mehr habe. Das Gehäuse hat auch ein paar Macken.
Ob das Floppy-Laufwerk einwandfrei funktioniert kann ich leider nicht sagen, da ich keine Sounddisketten mehr habe.
Verkauft wird hier ein erstklassiger Vintage-Sampler von Sequential Circuits. Der Prophet 2000 ist einer von vier Samplern von SCI (Prophet 3000, 2002, Studio 440), und baugleich mit der 2002er Rackversion.
Ansonsten kann ich die Soundqualität vom Prophet 2002 nicht genug hervorheben. Zwar ist es “nur” ein 12-bit Sampler, doch oft liest man, dass er sich besser anhört als manche 16-bit Sampler. Und damit kann nur die “Sauberkeit” der Sounds gemeint sein, denn in Sachen Druck, Punch, Charakter, Wärme und allem, was man gerne an einem Sound hat, ist er ganz zweifellos jedem neueren Sampler überlegen. Wer die E-MU SP1200 kennt, weiß, was ich meine. Verantwortlich dafür sind speziell die analogen Hüllkurven und Filter, sowie die Wandler. Hört sich paradox an, aber wenn man es einmal gehört hat, kann man einfach nicht glauben, wie fett sich alles anhört, was da durchgeht! Der Emax, der den gleichen Sound wie die berühmte SP1200 hat, klingt meiner Meinung nach immer noch nicht ganz so warm und satt wie der Prophet 2000.
Nachdem ich jahrelang mit Softwaresamplern Sounds gespielt und aufgenommen (und Zeit verschwendet) habe, bin ich wieder auf die alten Sampler gekommen und kann jetzt absolut nicht mehr nachvollziehen, warum man sie nicht mehr baut oder so selten benutzt. Die beschränkte Samplekapazität ist natürlich ein Grund, aber für kurze Sounds wie Drums und Bässe ist er absolut genial. Spielt man eine Weile den Software Sampler, und haut anschließend einen der alten analogen rein, merkt man sofort den Unterschied: es macht auf einmal Spass, zu spielen!!
Der Sampler ist auf 512 kb ausgebaut und bietet damit ca. 20 Sekunden in 40 khz, und ca. 1 minute in 16 khz. Ausbauen kann man ihn meines Wissens auf 1,5 MB. ” Link

“I have owned this Sequential Prophet 2002 for about 15 years. It has not been used for a while. It has a problem where there seems to be a slow oscillator (LFO) modulating the pan of the output, so that if you were only utilizing one output, the volume would fade in and out. Even when using both left and right outputs, it is noticeable though less so. I would imagine it could be rectified but am not sure of costs etc. I have the original manual and three original sound disks. If you can get it working, it is a fantastic sounding sampler because it has a ‘sound’ as opposed to being just another generic, transparent sampler with no character. The sound is remarkably clean for a 12-bit sampler and the analog filters are sensational” Link
