“For sale is a vintage Sequential Circuits Prophet 10 analog synthesizer. This is one of the greatest analog synthesizers ever made, 10 voices, 20 oscillators, insanely huge phat sound! It’s like having two Prophet 5′s in one, but with a few added features like a built in sequencer, a 3 band EQ and keyboard modes like double and alternate. This is the later version with midi installed! Loaded with the original patches. I recently had it fully serviced, it is 100% ready to play and is fully functional. Only two minor issues barely worth mentioning; 1 LED is out on the Single switch (you can still tell which voice mode you are in; if you don’t see any LEDs light up, you are in the Single mode…it would take a lot of work taking the boards out to replace one LED so I didn’t bother getting that fixed). Also the side cassette mechanism has been disconnected inside, since it is unlikely anyone would bother saving sequences to cassette tapes that you can’t even find any more. Cosmetically it is in excellent shape, looks really nice. See pictures below for details. I also have a flight/road case that will be included, though the case is not in the best of shape, it still works well for transporting the synth safely. These synths are very rare, especially the later midi model and in such nice shape as this one is! Don’t miss out on this awesome legend! ” Link
“This unit, serial number 1010-0078, is the final production version of the Prophet-10 designed around two Prophet-5 Rev 3 voice boards. It has enhanced microprocessor control circuitry and software to provide 10 polyphonic voices (2 VCOs each) in four keyboard modes with responsiveness comparable to the Prophet-5. These modes allow the choice of separate polyphonic control of two 5-voice synths, combined control of a “stacked” pair of 5-voice synths, alternating notes between two 5-voice synths, or control of a single 10-voice synth. Additional features not found on the Prophet-5 include programmable 3-band equalization, two control voltage pedal inputs with assignable routing, three foot switch inputs and a 10,200 note polyphonic sequencer. It is equipped with Sequential’s MIDI interface kit and the latest firmware, Rev 6.1. Recently the unit was thoroughly tested, repaired and burned-in by Wine Country Sequential in preparation for sale.
If you are familiar with the Prophet-10, you are probably wondering what happened to the keyboards on this unit. Although the stock Prophet-10 with its twin manuals is a sight to behold, the inclusion of two keyboards makes the nearly 3-1/2 foot by 2 foot by 8 inch, 70 pound unit so cumbersome that it is difficult for one person to move it by themselves, and difficult to integrate into a small studio environment or performance setup. As well, with the advent of MIDI controllers and sequencers and availability of the Prophet-10 MIDI upgrade kit, the built-in keyboards became redundant. At least a few ardent but frustrated Prophet-10 users dreamed of a slimmer instrument without the keyboards.
While I was employed as a service technician and visiting E-Mu Systems in the late 1980s, I happened to mention this to a product design engineer there who described to me a simple solution he referred to as “The Riley Mod.” It turns out that all the structural members forward of the main control panel can easily be unbolted and removed except for the sides of the chassis frame. The keyboards, modulation wheel and sequencer modules are simply unplugged from the rest of the synthesizer, unbolted and removed. Then the sides of the chassis frame can be cut back in line with the new forward face of the enclosure created by reusing a long corner piece and sheet metal that was part of the keyboard enclosure. Likewise, the wooden end pieces are carefully cut back to match the new enclosure dimensions and refinished to match the original look. Voila!
As you can see in the photos, the end result resembles an Oberheim Xpander, but with the familiar Prophet-10 control panel and no keyboards. This reduces the depth of the instrument to 13-1/2 inches and weight to 43 pounds – a much more practical size for lifting, transporting and integrating into an electronic music studio or performance system. For example, this slim rendition of the Prophet-10 rests comfortably on an Apex column stand.
NOTE: The circuit boards contained in the synthesizer unit are unaffected by the “Riley Mod” and have not been modified in any way except for installation of the factory-supplied MIDI upgrade kit. The MIDI upgrade and all servicing of the unit was performed by an authorized Sequential warranty service center. I performed the chassis modification while employed as a service tech at an authorized Sequential warranty service center, although this of course was not warranty service. In addition to the steps described above, minor modifications to the components removed from the original instrument were made to facilitate their continued use as separate modules. The Polysequencer was mounted in a custom enclosure made of sheet metal with wooden side panels, and the ribbon cable connecting it to the instrument was divided and terminated with cable headers so it can be connected by an extension cable. A selector switch was also added so that switching between internal and external clocks can be performed without unplugging and re-plugging the external clock signal cable. The single remaining keyboard (the other was sold) was mounted on sheet metal cut to the size of the keyboard’s footprint. An enclosure and external cabling similar to that provided for the Polysequencer was planned but no further work was done. The modulation wheel panel was prepared for addition of an external control switch but that and an enclosure with cabling were never implemented.
I am the original owner of this instrument and have kept it in smoke-free home studios or in heated storage at home. The instrument was used in a handful of public performances and has relatively little wear and tear. All rotary controls, switches and displays look like new and are in perfect working condition. The tape drive and Polysequencer are in perfect working order. All the white lettering on the control panel and black lettering on name plates is fully intact. Two of the four screws that attach the hinged control panel to the chassis frame are missing, and a nut for one of the screws is missing from the chassis frame, although the two remaining screws are sufficient to secure the panel. Some minor scratches or worn spots in the paint on the chassis and around the control panel screws have been touched up. Same for the Polysequencer. The instrument’s right wooden end panel has numerous light scratches and could be refinished to appear as nice as the left panel, which is still in very nice condition.” Link
“Sequential Circuits Prophet 10 Rev 3 with the Curtis chips, analog 10 voice polyphonic synthesizer serial # 91 manufactured around Sept. 1981 fairly rare and somewhat HTF in good working/cosmetic condition anymore, the synth in very very nice but not perfect mint condition. I am only the 2nd owner of this P 10, having purchased this from original owner who bought it new in 1982. All 10 voices sound and there are no dead keys anywhere. No broken knobs or sliders or other controls anywhere at all. No broken or chipped keys on either upper or lower set of keys You can get all 10 voices on the upper or lower set of 61 keys or a mix of the 10 voices between the upper and lower two sets of 61 keys which gives a different option for musicians playing this keyboard /synth unlike other synths from that era with only one keyboard. The Prophet 10 has the early basic MIDI circa 1983 or so in/out only retrofitted by SC, according to the huge original SC owners manual with many updated addendums/refinements all done at the SC factory through 1982-83 which is included, also comes with 5 original SC foot pedals and a custom Ultimate brand A-frame type adjustable height stand to hold the synth, and a huge Anvil type heavy duty in nice condition flight case no bad foam with heavy casters which holds the aforementioned original SC P 10 synth as well as the original SC owners manual, and it also holds the 5 SC pedals as well as the orginal power cord. You can play this synth vertically as well as horizontally with this Ultimate stand if you prefer, or some custom angle in between that works best for the new owner standing up, or put it on a modern stand to sit down and play it. There are also several NOS rare original Curtis chips included, as backups for future replacements, that came with this synth when I bought it from the previous owner about a year and a half ago on ebay. The synth plays 100% , except for the obsolete tape drive for the poly sequencer, I have not used at all so I am not sure about the poly-sequencer,which is most likely in working order however, again I have not ever used the poly-sequencer myself. I had the synth checked out at a reputable pro music store Big Dudes in KC by the veteran analog/digital techs, and they could not find any thing wrong with the synth with the exception of the poly sequencer, which previous owner said he had not used in 15 years or so because of the obsolete tape drive used to record the sequencer notes, there was no mini-tape cassette on hand to test the sequencer. The mini-tapes may still be available at WINECOUNTRY.COM which still offers repair/servicing of the old SEQUENTIAL analog synths. All 61 keys x 2 sound as well all leds function, and the one tech spent a month at least checking out the VCA and all the filters ,oscillators, ADSR envelopes, presets, etc with the proper test equipment. The synth does take about 10-15 to properly warm up though. ” Link
“This is a very rare item and the owner would not sell if it were not a hardship. This has only ever had one owner who was gifted this brand new in the early 80s. It is in great condition with the exception of three pots/ knobs that are broken. (This is an as is sale) but, we are a repair shop and will gladly do the repair for you for a reasonable price ( not included in this sale) before shipping to you or you picking up. This plays well and is an ideal studio piece.
It does come with the road case which is also in very good condition; the foam is good.
The keys are pristine, no chips or cracking or discoloration. ” Link

“Sequential Circuits Prophet 10. This hard to find synth is in good cosmetic shape. When powered up it tunes itself properly. All keys, buttons, knobs, pitch and mod wheel work great. All voices light up – no dead voices. The filter and res sound really good, no problems. All keys work. This Prophet 10 has been upgraded with a Midi in and out. Serial #420. Currently running OS 6.1. Included is a good xeroxed and bound manual from Wine Country. ” Link
“I am currently in Denver liquidating some musical gear. I purchased this synthesizer new in April, 1981. It is in its original condition and has not been modified. I used it in the recording studio for a few years, but mostly it has been in storage. It has slight wear marks from removing it from the case. A few of the notes do not work properly, but in general it works well. It comes with the original flight case, 2 VCO pedals, 3 momentary switch pedals, and owners manual.
I am keeping the information brief because serious buyers will probably do the necessary homework. Item pickup can be arranged for the Denver area.” Link
“This is my Prophet 10 that im looking to get rid of. It comes with a nice case that has wheels on it. Its in pretty good condition but is an older Synth. This thing is a thing of beauty that im sure im going to be regretting getting rid of but im in need of a few things right now so my loss your gain.

“”Sequential Circuits Prophet 10, Rev 3 with the Curtis Electronics IC chips. Analog 10 voice polyphonic synthesizer serial # 91 manufactured 1981 in very nice cosmetic but not mint condition, it has the expected very minor scuffs/scrapes here and there for a 30 year old musical instrument ,but no dents/dings or other damages anywhere. The Prophet 10 has the early basic MIDI circa 1984 in/out only retrofitted by SC, according to updated addendums to the original SC manual updated through 1982,83-84. This classic analog synth also comes with 5 original SC foot pedals and a custom Ultimate A-frame type adjustable height stand to hold the synth, and original SC owners manual dated Sept. 1981, and a very nice custom made Anvil flight case with heavy duty casters which protects the synth and the pedals. Included also are several replacement rare HTF Curtis chips for extra backups, that came with this synth when I bought it from the original owner who owned this synth since 1982. No dead keys or voices, and there are no broken or missing knobs, buttons or controls anywhere The synth functions 100% except for the onboard poly- sequencer and obsolete micro-cassette tape drive, which may work fine but, I have not used them at all so I, cannot really verify that this section of the synth is 100%. I am not sure but I think you can also use newer modern MIDI compatible external sequencers with this prophet as well, again I do not use sequencers, but this version of the P 10 is more collectable because it came with the factory onboard poly-sequencer, whereas some of the P 10′s did not have them. The synth needs a few minutes to warm up and the autotune works proper. The factory presets on the synth are the original as far as I can tell but I am not 100% sure of this, though you have the option to overwrite the existing ones with a new cassette tape of the SC Prophet 10 original factory presets purchased from WINE COUNTRY, which still offers repair/support for the old SC synths. ” Link
“Sequential Circuits Prophet 10
~ 10 day auction ~
NO RESERVE
Very Good Condition
Original Voltage Control Pedals x 2
Original Foot Switches x 2
Original Operation Manual
Original ATA Road Case (with new foam)
Breamar Tapes x 8
I will spare you the specificications of this vintage synth, but will add that it lives up to its reputation = Good for studio, Not so good for going on the road
I am the original owner. I bought this about 30 years ago. The SCI factory MIDI interface was installed around 1983 by OmniTron located inside the BrookMays Music Store in Dallas (which makes the original Voltage/Gate sequencer interface on the back non-working). About that time I also had OmniTron update it to the Braemar Tape drive which removed the original front drive.
Then SCI was aquired by Yamaha =
In 2010 the keyboard keybeds (J-wire contacts) and audio interface were service by Audio Electronics in Dallas so there is good action/contact. In 2011 I had them send one of the internal boards to Wine Country for service to make all 10 voices excellent.

“This is an amazing Vintage Analog Synth. This came from Jimmy Swaggart Minitries in LA and has been fully tested. I was told he played it at the church over 20 years ago. It has been in the road case ever since and when we pulled it out to test it (it worked perfect). When I did research online it looks like this is a very valueable piece to own. It will ship via frieght in it’s road case to insure it shows up safe.” Link

I have owned this beast since the late 80′s. The serial number tag on the back of this instrument states it is number 253, with an “expiration date” of 8-6-82. I had this upgraded with MIDI when I first obtained it, and it has seen only studio use while in my care. The sequencer/tape drive section is not functional, as I recall, and this was part of the price one paid for having MIDI installed at the time – or at least, that was the way it was explained to me.
This instrument was recently serviced to take care of a voice that wouldn’t stay in tune. Everything now works exactly as it should (with the exception of the sequencer/tape drive, as stated), and this awesome instrument is in very good condition. Feel free to ask any questions, I will do my best to provide whatever info I can.
This instrument includes an Anvil flight case in excellent condition and an original CV controller pedal. I believe I also have a pair of footswitches which I will be happy to include if I can find them” Link
“Here for your consideration is a VERY rare synth. It is the Prophet 10 by Sequential Circuits. You have no doubt heard of the legendary Prophet 5? Well, the Prophet 10 is two Prophet 5′s in one! This particular synth is *almost* museum quality, I would give it a 9.5 out of 10. The wood panels are near perfect. The keyboards are straight, with great action. This Prophet 10 was bought from Wine Country, after they had restored it.” Link
“This is a Sequential Circuits prophet 10 synthesizer, needs servicing. Powers up no problem but after 3 or 4 minutes there is no sound. All keys work. No buttons or knobs are broken. Physical condition is very nice considering it’s age. ” Link
“p for sale is an extremely rare Sequential Circuits Prophet 10 keyboard. This synth recently had $700 worth of maintenance work put into it, making it FLAWLESS. It works great, and sounds better than any synth you have ever heard, HONESTLY. This is a rare piece, sometime along the way a previous owner had cut off the second tier keyboard, effectively making it a single tier Prophet 10. This modification in no way hinders the performance of the synth, in fact I think the single tier version is optimal. This synth works PERFECTLY, keeps perfect tune and functions day in and day out. This Prophet 10 has MIDI, although I am not sure how to engage the MIDI, or rather how to get it to function. The tech told me that the MIDI passes signal and should be functioning, yet it is not engaged, most likely a simple fix. Besides the MIDI, this synth is perfect inside and out. Looks great, every button and knob functions as you would expect. Nothing comes close to the Prophet 10 in terms of sound. If you are in NYC, local pickup would be amazing. I will ship globally. ” Link
“Here is a Vintage Sequential Circuits Prophet 10 with it’s Anvil road case that cosmetically is in great condition, but it needs quite a bit of repair. It was recently sent to a service tech who said it needs the following:
The P10 incorporates two voice boards that are identical to the P5 and a control board that is similar, but in this case. it has to control 2 voice boards at the same time. This particular unit has problems with the control circuitry for the lower voice board. Through swapping, I have been able to determine that both voice boards are nearly fully functional. The lower board has a problem with one oscillator on one voice not sounding, but that should be easily solvable. I haven’t taken the time to troubleshoot that particular problem because there are more serious issues that should be dealt with before that gets repaired.
As I said, the lower control circuit has some problems as well, but I think those are solvable as well. The part I’m having difficulty with is the patch memory, the Poly Sequencer, and the tape drive system.
I’ve replaced the memory battery, but have been unable to store any patches on the unit. I’ve found at least one defective memory ic, but even with it removed, I’m still unable to store patches. With the poly sequencer dead, the tape drive is automatically out of commission since it is a subsystem of the Poly Seq board. So currently, there is no way to load patches, and even if you could load them, the unit won’t store them. We have two functional voice boards, but the only way to access them is to program them on the fly, much like a minimoog.
One other issue is the state of the tantalum capacitors on board. These capacitors originally had a life expectancy of about 15 years…these units are now more than 30 years old, and indeed, I have replaced a number of them that were “dead shorted”. Unfortunately, there are other ways these caps can fail that wouldn’t be easily measurable, and they should all be replaced before we continue on with this repair. It may be that some of the problems might disappear after replacing the caps. It also might not fix anything, but we have to replace them to be sure. In any case, they are “ticking timebombs”.
That would be my next step if you wish to continue. There are about 60 of those capacitors in the unit, and the cost to replace them would be about $120.00/labor and about $60.00/parts. If you wanted it back now, I would charge you about two hours ($120) for the work so far, (far less than I have in it, but I feel like the last few hours are the only ones in which I have made any billable progress) and if you want to proceed with the cap replacement, we would be at about $300.00.
To fix everything we are probably looking at a total cost of $800-$1200 to:
* replace the caps
* repair the osc on the lower voice board
* repair the lower voice control circuitry
* repair the memory subsystem
* repair the polysequencer (and hopefully, the tape interface, as well)
This also includes several repairs that have already been made to the upper control circuitry and both voice boards.
To sum up: we’re at $120.00 now.
If I replace the caps, we’ll be at $300.00.
If that doesn’t fix any of the problems (it still has to be done), it could run as high as $1200.00 for a complete repair.
I have played the unit and it takes about 10-15 seconds for it to tune up. Only 5 voices play on the top keyboard only. All knobs and switches seem to work fine. This keyboard is being sold AS IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!’ Link
“the myth!! made in the US early 80s, this is the doublemanual model – the synth is fully functional as apart from some discoloration on the wooden sides, everything else is as it should be, that is, everything on the hardware is the original. there is plenty of information on the web. ” Link

“For sale is a rare Sequential Circuits Prophet 10 vintage analog synthesizer. This is still one of the most ultimate synths ever made, and is like two Prophet 5′s in one! Not only that but it has a few unique features as well, including built in graphic equalizer and on board sequencer. The synth is in excellent condition, a few scruffs here and there but overall front is very nice. Only major scratches are on the bottom which you normally can’t see. It works great and stays in tune fairly well after it’s warmed up for a bit. There may be a couple features I never got around to testing out (not sure what the thing on the left wood cheek is), but it’s basic features are functional and all ten voices work. See pictures below.
Don’t miss out on one of the most legendary synths of all time!
*Note: no power cable is included, though any standard three prong cable should work. If I find an extra cable I will revise the listing and/or include it with the synth.*” Link

“Hallo,
on sale my vintage Sequential Circuits Prophet-10 dual manual analog polyphonic synth.
The synth comes from the Pet Shop Boys studio: they bought it new and used it to record the first 4 albums of their discography. They never gigged with it, as it spent all of its
life in their London based studio.
This is one of the very first Prophet-10, without MIDI nor the Polysequencer.
The synth comes with the original custom flightcase, both the user/service manuals and some original spares I recently bought @ Wine Country (formerly Sequential). The spares
include a master volume pot, a modulation wheel (the onboard one comes from a minimoog) and a kit of nearly 80 J-Wire guides, as I wanted to fully replace both the keyboards
kit just before to put it on sale. I didn’t have the time to do the job but the winner, if he wants, could do that or could keep them for the years to come.
Of course, all the spares are 100% new and original.
At the moment, the lower keyboard J-Wire contacts kit is disconnected (hence the new kit present), so that all the 10 voices are playable from the upper keyboard. In case
the new winner will prefere to have it connected again, he’ll find the new guides kit very useful as they guarantee a brand new keyboard action for many years to come.
I just fully checked the synth after a couple of months I didn’t play it, and everything is ok. All the 10 voices are tuned (the “autotune” option is installed) and every switch
and button work troublelessly. Everything works and sounds perfectly, and I didn’t notice any issue or problem playing it.
Because of the huge size and weight of the synth and its flightcase, a personal collect here in berlin would be highly welcome. Otherwise I can arrange a shipping with UPS,
but please keep in mind it will end up being quite expensive even though the boxing won’t be necessary.
Please consider the shipping cost I put as purely indicative.
If you need any further infos please feel free to ask me.
This is a lovely and powerful synthesizer, a real pleasure to play; and because of its “royale” pedigree, it represents a safe investment for the phuture too.” Link

“I bought this keyboard in 1996, have not used it at all and kept it in climate and humidity controlled storage inside its flight case ever since. What did not work then still doesn’t: One voice (out of five) in the ‘lower’ synth does not sound, neither does the middle A key in the lower manual. The rest of the key contacts would benefit from cleaning but they all work. The sequencer does not run, it might be that I just don’t know how. I don’t think the tape drive is operative. The OSC A pulse width pot has a broken shaft, missing knob and seems stuck. Everything else works fine. The foam inside the case is coming apart, though I think it will sufficiently protect the keyboard during the trip to its new home.” Link
“For your consideration is the Sequential Circuits Prophet 10.
The synth is in excellent cosmetic condition, the only issue being some separation in the wood of one of the side panels.
Please view the detailed pictures to accurately determine the cosmetic condition.
UPDATE:
The Prophet 10 was just received back from a professional synth tech who did the following repairs/service:
Replaced Osc A level pot, recapped CPU board, power supply, 2 voice boards, output board.
2 keyboards: replaced bushings, cleaned j-wires & buss bars.
Replaced battery; loaded factory patches; tuned & scaled.
Installed MIDI
The tape drive board was found to be faulty, very common to these, so I had the Wine Country MIDI retrofit installed.
You won’t find another Prophet 10 in better operating condition, but then again, you probably won’t find another Prophet 10, period.
Auction includes Sequential Circuits Prophet 10 synthesizer and original manual.
Local pick-up AND payment ONLY.” Link

“RARE and legendary – Sequential Circuits Prophet 10 Synthesizer with MIDI and the latest (and last) available software updates – completely restored to better than new condition by Wine Country Productions in May of this year. Dual keyboards, both completely rebushed, incredible playing action. This unit is cosmetically and electronically perfect in every way – with all original factory patches, sequencer, and MIDI. ANALOG PURISTS rejoice – if you have dreamed of owning one of these MONSTER synths – THIS is the one – nothing better available ANYWHERE in the world from any source at any price. Units selling for $4000-5000 are NOT workable, reliable, or playable – all require extensive work before they are actual working instruments again. Months of work went into acquiring and refurbishing this machine to the original factory specs – by the original SCI technicians who built them in the first place. Serial number is shown, you may contact Wine Country to confirm their substantial and passionate involvement – these machines are very special, invoking intense emotional responses from their owners. I have several other SCI units – Prophet 5s and Prophet T8s – and another Prophet 10 – the previous owners of these instruments still call and email to ask how “their” machines are doing.
Looks and plays as if BRAND NEW. Spectacular sound, incredible flexibility, nothing like it anywhere. Comes with original factory manual, memory diagnostic ROMS (which contain the factory patches, the micro-cassettes originally furnished with these machines – 29 years ago! are no longer available) power cord, and the original factory-furnished Anvil flight case, which will be refoamed for the winning bidder at no charge. There are no pedals with this unit, they are quite rare, but may be available (and if not, specs for building them are) from WCP. And no, I don’t work for them, but they deserve the accolades they have received – they care deeply for this gear, and it shows.” Link

“I have been the very proud owner of this Prophet 10 for nearly 15 years now and it’s time to let it go. It is great condition. I just had this very rare beast repaired by a tech to get it ready for sale. The front LEDs weren’t coming on and the tech replaced a couple chips and now it’s all good. The keyboard comes in its original road case.
Condition
Due to the age of this keyboard it is being sold as is. Having said that……
1) There are some very light and small scratches on the keyboard but over all it is in excellent condition. There are scratches on the bottom of the keyboard.
2) Some of the keys are “klacky” when you play them. They could use new bushings. It won’t keep you from playing the keyboards, but it would make them play nicer.
3) There is a ding about the size of a pencil eraser on the wood on the right side. It is very small and not very noticeable. See the picture on the web page I posted.
4) I am not sure if the tape portion of the sequencer works. I don’t have a tape to check it. I have been told that a lot of these don’t work.
5) My tech told me that when you open the top of the keyboard, a note sounds and stays on. He said that it is the ribbon. This should not be a problem if the keyboard is not moved around a lot. As big as it is, you will probably not be gigging with it.
Functionally it is sound. All buttons and knobs are there and working. Watch the youtube video below and you will see it in action. I didn’t bother trying to get the sound right. If you have ever heard one of these in person, you know it’s a sonic monster. “ Link
