Link

I gave a wipe over today and i include a gererous picture gallery so you can see, in not bad condition , there is one corner cast cracked, this is very common with polymoogs. Also included are chrome legs missing 1 cross member ,i have seen these new as a pair for very little online. The chrome is pitting on the legs. There are no leg braces though.I have tried on the mains and though you hear a hum no lights come on. I have seen the polycom cards sell for £20 each, thats those credit sized cards you see inside. Please call me for further details if you wish on 07989-780306.I may be able to help with the missing parts as i have a couple elsewhere in storage, but this sale is for what you see, no timewasters please , delivery is possible, i will discuss this with the buyer if sold.Sold as seen with no returns.” Link

The Polymoog Synthesizer (Serial #1127) & Polypedals (Serial #2598) are both in excellent condition. The Polymoog has recently been given a complete checkout and calibration per the Moog factory service manual, and is fully functional:

*All notes/keys functional (timbre, dynamics, touch)*

*All functions/modes operatable*

*All knobs, pushbuttons, and sliders smooth & operatable*

*All LED illuminate*

*Pitch glide operatable & linear (unique finger glide function)*

*Both Ramp & Square wave Oscillators Banks calibrated to A440*

(note: Moog factory mod for improved temperature-stable oscillators incorporated)

**Physical case condition in excellent condition, extremely clean both inside & out, clear lettering of functions, jacks, sliders and pushbuttons**

History: I purchased this Polymoog in 1983 and has been in my possession under climate controlled studio conditions ever since with no exceptions (no road trips or band gigs).

For those who are familiar with the Polymoog synthesizer, know that is was designed & engineered at the pinnacle of analog music technology, just prior to the wave of first digital CPU controlled synthesizers. It would be hard to find a nicer Polymoog with Polypedals, ready for immediate analog polyphonic synthesis enjoyment.

Bidding is for both the Polymoog Synthesizer & Polypedals (keyboard stand in pictures not included). Original operating & service manuals also included. ” Link

It currently powers up but the sounds vary In quality.
A rough example I can give is a Mark out of ten for each preset against the sound it should make;
Preset 1 0/10
Preset 2 4/10
Preset 3 4/10
Preset 4 4/10
Preset 5 3/10
Preset 6 3/10
Preset 7 3/10
Preset 8 4/10
Preset 9 6/10
Preset 10 6/10
Preset 11 6/10
Preset 12 4/10
Preset 13 4/10
Preset 12 4/10
There are a few scratches on the plastic and some uneven keys but I’d put the overall cosmetic condition at 7/10.
All questions welcome.” Link

This auction includes the keyboard, legs, braces and 285a Polypedal controller and copies of both owner’s manual and schematics. Cosmetically I’d rate this unit a 8 to9 out of ten. There is one slider cap missing on the bass filter section. Overall the finish is nice with very minor scuff marks and the keys are nice and white and the front panel is nice and clean and best of all the are no chipped corners. You can find slider caps at www.technologytransplant.com . The Moog liberation uses the same blue slider caps. I powered the unit up and all lights turn on and presets change and it does make sound. Some notes trigger and some don’t. My guess it’s the divider chips. ” Link

Also includes the Polypedal Model 285A Serial #1478PD, Moog roadcase, and Moog service manual for Polymoog Keyboard, Synthesizer, and Polypedal.
This unit was just serviced and is fully functional with no known issues. The service company went through this entire synth to ensure it is fully functioning and has a clean bill of health.
Physically it is in superb condition with minor scratches that are hardly noticeable. This is a very clean synth and sounds great! it would make a great addition to any collection or for any performer.” Link

Last week I took it out of the closet, fired it up and it worked pretty well for a Polymoog: a couple keys didn’t make sound and the Attack pre/var switch was a bit sticky. Of course today when I turned it on the lights came on but there wasn’t any sound, which is probably a simple connection issue, but, given the unreliablility of Polymoogs, I’m selling it for parts. Everyone has a Polymoog war story. This one was brought to life a few years ago by cannibalizing two other Polymoogs, swapping out boards until this one worked. The Polypedal Controller worked great last week. I’m throwing in an original service manual, because you need one if you own a Polymoog.” Link

The first true poly synth? A classic in anybody’s book!

Not to be confused with the preset only Polymoog Synthesizer.

This was working well before being put into storage a couple of years ago. However, powering up to photograph for this auction it made no sound. Actually, there’s a very faint sound – i can hear the touch controller taking effect very very quietly.

All the knobs are present, the button LEDs work and the keyboard is level and not sticky. The preset buttons work and the numeric LED displays the correct selection.” Link

This is a very early eample polymoog as is still called a Polymoog Keyboard , Moog changed the name to a Polymoog Synthersizer later on , Moog then relased a cutdown verion called the Polymoog Keyboard , the serial number is 1185. This polymoog is in working condition however I would suggest that the new owner has it serviced before any serious use as it has been stored away for quite a few years. I plugged the polymoog in today and all the presets works as they should and produce the correct sounds. All the switches and sliders are in working condition( a couple of the led’s are out but the switches work), all the keys work as they should and are nice and claen with no chips or scratches. The bass section is a little lower on volume. The Polypedals work as they should but you do have to wiggle the main connector to get them to power on but once on they work fine. All four adjustable feet are present but I do not have the optional legs. The Moog is not missing any parts and is in pretty nice condition for a 30+ year old synth, please see the pictures. Some of the sliders are a little noisey but a good clean should sort that out. This is a great sounding polyphonic Moog and was used by everybody from Emerson Lake and Palmer to Gary Newman , it has a very distinctive sound. I am offering it here on a sold as seen basis with no return and due to the age of the synth I can offer no guarantee.” Link

Moog Polymoog electronic synthesier keyboard. Unit is in excellent condition. Cosmetically, there are some good easily noticeable scuffs and scratches on the encasing, keys, control panel, and rear connection panel. The whole unit is quite dusty from being in storage. Functionally, some keys don’t seem to work at all, some work intermittently, and some work fine; some of the sliders are very scratchy sounding and some don’t seem to do anything at all. These issues are known in this model.” Link

This keyboard was my Father-in-laws and I do not know much about it. I plugged it in and it lit up. I hooked up a speaker to see if it made any sound. I’m not sure that I had it connected correctly. It had a hum. I was able to get sound out of it when I pressed the keys but not sure if it was doing what it should. I’m sure it needs gone over and tuned up after being stored for so long. I know it worked well when he stored it 20 years ago. That being said I am going to say this unit is in non working order. Sold as is with no returns

Also included in this auction are the chrome legs, manual and the model 285a foot controller.” Link

VINTAGE POLYMOOG with POLYPEDAL CONTROLLER for sale.
Recently serviced, tuned, and cleaned. I had many of the contacts rewired by a professional tech who specializes in analog gear. Took over a month to go through all the functions and rewire components. I paid close to $1K to service. TECH made sure that all functions work 100%. All knobs, sliders, and buttons work. There are no scratchy sliders. Also the Pitch ribbon controller is in good-great condition. The condition of the body looks good. There are few body marks on the back, sides and 1of the keys but nothing major. The body looks great for it’s age.

THESE SYNTHS ARE RARE TO FIND, THERE WERE FEW THAT SOLD WITHIN THE YEAR ON EBAY BUT NOT IN THIS CONDITION. THE EARLY POLYMOOGS ARE KNOWN FOR THEIR TUNING ISSUES BUT THE TUNING IS ROCK SOLID WITH THIS ONE. ” Link

This is one of the last 100 made and has all of the factory enhancements and modifications that were made through the production run. It has also had all new divider chips (and sockets added) along with having most all the CMOS chips replaced along with most all the opamps. Replaced about 3/4′s of the transistors too. The dividers and CMOS chips were a major source of failure in the originals so I wanted to replace them all to make it much more reliable. All the LEDs have been replaced with ones that take less current (but look the same) so strain is taken off the power supply. The Ua726 reference oscillators have been replaced with brand new ones. Needless to say, a lot of work has been put into this polymoog and it is about 99% functional. Only issue is that the VCF filter attack and decay are not working correctly and one key needs a bushing (currently taped to make it level, as you can see in the picture. the key DOES work). It works, it just doesn’t sit right and level with the other keys. I will also throw in some spare parts including chips and polycom cards.” Link

“Here we have an incredibly rare Polymoog. These hardly ever come up and this is a rare classic. There are one or two people in the U.K who have loads of these things stored away which is why, essentially, there are not many of these in circulation. I thought it would be nice therefore to release one into the sales arena to give you guys a chance of owning one. It’s the only one I have and I don’t want to hog them as some do.

This one functionally is top notch and functioning absolutely perfectly. It has been recently overhauled and serviced by a top U.K service engineer.

This is the model 203a version and NOT the 280. So this is called the synthesiser. It has keyboard written on it. The reason I believe to be the case is that Moog named this the Polymoog keyboard when it was built pre-1978. They then launched the model 280 post 1978 which became the keyboard. This version was then renamed the synthesiser.

To be absolutely fair, some people and purists prefer the newer keyboard model 280 version because of its abilities to replicate the famous Garry Newman sound but this model 203a selling here isn’t a million miles away from replicating the same sound, it just isn’t quite as easy to do so.

Everything you need to know about this synth if you aren’t sure about it should be found on vintagesynth.

Cosmetically, to be absolutely honest, this is not fantastic. Its ok, you know pretty good for its age kind of stuff but it would be very wrong to suggest it was excellent or mint, it is good, probably not even very good, just good or maybe fair. I hope I have been reasonable in spelling this out.” Link

FULLY INTACT EXCEPT FOR ONE SLIDER TAB, ONE BOTTOM RIGHT COVER SCREW KNOB, ONE LEFT BACK COVER SCREW & TWO SMALL STRIPS OF PLASTIC WHICH CAME OFF FROM INSIDE THE COVER. (THE SLIDER TAB CAN BE REPLACED WITH ANOTHER SLIDER TAB & THE SCREW KNOB & COVER SCREW CAN BE REPLACED WITH SUITABLE HARDWARE THAT WORKS. THE PLASTIC STRIPS CAN BE RE-SECURED WITH GLUE OR DOUBLE BACK TAPE.) NO LEGS OR FOOT PEDALS COME WITH THE SYNTH. A COPY OF THE ORIGINAL OWNERS MANUAL FOR THE POLYMOOG KEYBOARD WHICH IS SIMILAR, REPAIR MANUAL, PATCH SHEET & 4 FUSES (2 IN THE UNIT & 2 EXTRA) ARE INCLUDED. BASED ON THE SERIAL NUMBER OF THIS POLYMOOG 203A IT WAS NEAR THE END OF THE PRODUCTION OF POLYMOOG 203A’S PROBABLY AROUND 1980. WHICH IS A GOOD THING!!!

THIS IS A GOOD CHOICE OF A POLYMOOG SYNTH TO RESTORE AS VIRTUALLY ALL THE INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL COMPONENTS (EXCEPT FOR THE AFOREMENTIONED) ARE PRESENT AND HAVE NEVER BEEN ALTERED IN ANY WAY. THIS IS A GREAT POLYMOOG SYNTHESIZER FOR A RESTORATION PROJECT AS IT IS IN GREAT PHYISCAL SHAPE. THIS POLYMOOG DOES NOT POWER UP!!! THEREFORE THIS SYNTH IS OBVIOUSLY BEING SOLD “AS IS”. SO YOU WILL HAVE TO REPAIR IT IN ORDER TO USE IT. FIX IT OR USE IT FOR PARTS FOR THE POLYMOOG YOU ALREADY HAVE (PARTS FOR THE POLYMOOG ARE SCARCE AND VERY…VERY… EXPENSIVE AS IT IS GETTING HARDER AND HARDER TO FIND OEM PARTS. ALL OF THE EXTERNAL BUTTONS, KEYS, KNOBS, SLIDERS, SWITCHES, TABS, INTERNAL BOARDS, CHIPS, WIRING AND ALL OTHER PARTS ARE PRESENT AS NOTHING HAS EVER BEEN TAKEN OUT OF THIS UNIT. ALL 71 KEYS ARE IN EXCELLENT SHAPE AND DO NOT STICK. THE CHASIS OF THE UNIT IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AS WELL AS THERE ARE NO CRACKS. JUST A FEW MINOR SCUFFS ON THE BOTTOM OF THE SYNTH. THAT’S IT!!! THE UNIT DOES NOT POWER UP!!! THERE’S A GOOD CHANCE THE POWER TRANSFORMER IS NO GOOD AND WILL NEED TO REPLACED. I HAVE SEEN THEM GO FOR FROM $50 to $100. The part numbers for the power transformer are as follows:

The Prior Moog Part # was 43-160

The Most Recent Moog Part # is 954-041170-001

Another possible cause may be a faulty power supply circuit board. This is even more of a common problem with Polymoog’s from what I understand.” Link

Link

This one is of the latest generation of Polymoogs, serial number 3795. It actually bears the name Polymoog Synthesizer on the front (instead of Polymoog Keyboard).

This machine has been overhauled extensively. The overhaul includes:

Repairs: this Polymoog has been fixed. It is one of the few around that are 100% functional.

Keyboard contacts have been cleaned and aligned. All seventy-one rubber keyboard bushings have been replaced with brand new ones. All thirty seven indicator LED’s for the pushbuttons on the front panel, as well as their current regulating resistors have been replaced with new ones that are less energy consuming and thus put less strain on the power supply.

All the capacitors on the power supply have been replaced with new ones in order to reduce chances of burn out.

All fifteen hundred solder connections for the polycom and balance card slots on the three motherboards have been re-soldered to reduce occurrence of fuzzy or dead notes on the keyboard.

All eighteen opamp IC’s LM3080AN on the top left and top right circuit boards have been replaced by their modern day equivalent NTE 996. The old LM3080AN is a common cause of failure in polymoogs. The NTE996 is more durable.

All internal adjustable parameters have been tuned and calibrated.

It has been serviced with durability in mind. This is not a guarantee because the Polymoog remains a sensitive instrument that needs care and attention, but the chances of survival for this one have certainly been improved.

Cosmetically it is in pretty reasonable shape. It does show some wear and tear but overall nothing too outrageous considering it’s age. The worst thing in my opinion would be some curling at the corners of the stickers on the left hand side front panel. See pictures.

The Polypedal Controller, model 285A, serial number 1898 PD is working 100% as well and is in good cosmetic shape.

Included with this sale are five spare Polycom cards and three MM5823N frequency divider IC’s to further increase the potential lifespan of this machine.” Link

Untested and sold as seen, there is very little electronics inside these pedals as they are for the 2 versions of Moog Polymoog being 203a Synthesiser and 280a Keyboard. These pedals can make great change to some of the preset sounds to these now classic Analogue Synthesisers, they can also open up the filters to awesome effect, i understand they can be used on the Minimoog if you are fortunate to own one. In good condition and intact, sold as seen with no returns, pick up only if possible, delivery / meet possible , will courier at last resort , i will set £25 for the service, these pedals are about the weight of a Micromoog quite heavy and good packing will be needed.” Link

Works well, some controls may need to be cleaned. It does NOT come with Pedal/Controller Model 285A which is Made in the USA, if you would like the Pedals as well they will be on a separate auction. All of the Note Keys are working(they produce Sound). All of the Sliders seem to be working, and are not making any static noises, although one knob is missing. There are (37) control buttons above the keys, each with a red indicator light, (4) of these lights are not working. The pitch controller bar is working. The Serial number is #1111, and it was made in Buffalo, Ny . This keyboard has Line, Level audio output. You will need a Amp(such as a guitar amp or PA Amp for sound) I have a separate inexpensive amp if you are interested. This is for local pick up only unless the buyer arranges there own shipping. This is located in Phoenix, Az 85016.” Link

I believe the model was constructed around 1975.
The beast is in working condition and playable but it is in need of some TLC which I can’t afford to provide. It has various
ailments due to its age, noisey, crunchy faders at times and has variable volume response to keys and presets. It works much better if you
let it warm up for about an hour, seems to hold its tuning better then. All the keys work, nothing in particular is broken
though some buttons are more responsive than others. The foot pedal box is included and this isn’t working very well.
There was some response with the swell but nothing from the other parameters. If it was a house this synth would be advertised
as a “renovators dream”. All 4 of the original screw in legs are included but I have only one of the cross bars (i’ve seen
replica’s on ebay overseas) – I never used them myself preferring to have it on a heavy duty keyboard stand.
It is heavy, you can carry it yourself but its better to have two people. I don’t have a manual for it but you don’t really need one.
Years ago on the net I saw that you could buy a copy but i never got around to it, so if you look you might find.” Link

These are from my Polymoog Keyboard, which I had been working to restore for months, but the synth has too many issues to sort out. This set of twelve Polycom cards, an entire octave’s worth, has been tested, and were playing just fine. I cannot guarantee how they will perform in your machine, since I was unable to totally sort out all the issues with my Polymoog. However, in every aspect that I was able to test them they performed very well. Also included in this listing is a working balance card.

This auction includes only the twelve Polycom cards and the balance card, and nothing else.” Link

This one is unique because it came from Sony Music recording studios in New York City when they were closing their doors. Unfortunately, I am not sure what artists may have recorded music with it. I had it serviced last year. Serviced meaning it was opened up by a technician that fixes keyboards, amps, and everything was cleaned, etc. All the keys work, but I am having some problems with the bottom row of sounds (6-9) Sometimes they worked and sometimes not. Lately it’s more like “not”. It’s missing one knob (see photo), otherwise it seems to work ok. Case has some scratches, but nothing terrible. Please see photos for full details. It does not come with any accessories, you get JUST the keyboard (and I have a new power chord that fits and works fine). I am not an expert on these, or repairing them, so I am selling it “as is”. I tested it to the best of my knowledge, but am not sure if I missed something or not, besides a few of the sounds not working.” Link

I dont think this polymoog needs too much work to get all working , but selling as is with no returns, and yes once all working if Vox Humana is played through direct output the Cars/Airlane sound is there ,i understand its a raw sound with no filter. Altogether a now scarce classic Moog synthesiser still quite capable of making electronics that modern gear cannot. I will include spare polycom cards to replace the dead ones and a high quality copy spiral bound operation manual. Pick up only,i prefer cash on collection or bank transfer however i will leave the choice with you.A free still sealed CD of The Pleasure Principle will be included in the sale to demonstrate the sweeping filtered electronics of the Polymoog.” Link
