The unit powers right on, and I really do not have a way to fully test it, and it is sold as is. The finish is worn off of the wood sides, and it almost looks like the previous owner was stripping it down to refinish it, and the edges are nice and clean. The AMT control knob tip isn’t original, and it is missing the VCF lever control. The top control area is nice and clean, with only light type wear, and no heavy type scratches. The keys are all in very nice condition, and are all nice and clean. I have taken a number of photos. Everything works perfectly on it. There are no missing or limited functions. All of the keys play. All of the voices work. I’ve cleaned out the dreaded “black goo” and reconditioned the sliders (cleaned & lubricated) so it should work hassle free for hopefully a long while. All of the slider caps are present and color correct for their section. It’s in incredible condition when you consider most of the past Opus 3′s on ebay are broken in some way.

The wood is in great shape with no cracks or gouges. In the picture you can see wear in the finish in the top right corner. It’s just the finish having rubbed off, not a break or cut in the wood. There is also some spots on the front piece of wood under the keybed where the finish has been rubbed off. You could very easily refinish the wood and have it looking pristine. The keys do not appear to have yellowed at all. They look pretty close to new.

I will include a printout of the user manual and service manual (neither are originals) and I can also email you PDFs of them. It’s always good to have the manuals handy.

Since it’s a very old synth, I have to sell it as/is. I don’t expect any problems though. ” Link

This synth is in pretty amazing condition for it’s age.
Everything on it works and sounds great.
The plastic on the front is in good shape, but there is one tiny indentation near the stereo output mixer.
Some of the adhesive under the plastic has come loose, but if you don’t pull on it the plastic lays flat.
Either the sides are completely immaculate or someone refinished them because there are very few noticeable marks.
All the keys and sliders work.
A couple of the selector switches make the tiniest bit of noise when changing settings but that can probably be remedied with contact cleaner, which I just ran out of.
I guarantee that you will receive this synth in great working condition. ” Link

Die fehlenden Schalter sind einfache Kippschalter und dürften sich leicht nachrüsten lassen. Very minor scuffs on edges of wood cheeks are the only thing that may keep this synth from being museum quality. Three basic sections – Strings, Organ, and Brass. Also has very nice adjustable chorus feature for the Strings and Organ section, and the powerful Moog Filter for the Organ and Brass sections. Pitch wheel, 49 keys, and modulation section. Designed by Herb Deutsch, who originally steered Robert Moog into building synthesizers, and later worked for Moog Music. This synthesizer is from my personal collection, which has been written up in magazine articles. I was personal friends with Bob Moog before his passing, and I worked as a consultant to Moog Music myself in 2008. Sold AS-IS, but was tested and 100% functional prior to listing. ” Link

All of the sections work including the Chorus, Modulation, Strings, Organ, and Brass. Some of the sliders are a little scratchy when moved, but work fine once you get them set. A little cleaning should straighten that out. I have not taken this unit apart.
Cosmetically the unit is in good condition with a few small dents on the wood side panels. There is one gouge on the left side panel near the top in picture #3 and that is the worst of the flaws.
One of the slider caps is missing from the string section, but does not affect the function whatsoever. I think you can find replacements on eBay and there are many sources on the web if you do a search on “Moog slider caps”. There are several sources on eBay for the manuals. I do not have a manual for this instrument, but I will ship it with the original power cord.
The VCF and FM modulation work perfectly as does the brass controls and attack and decay functions. The Brass is the classic Moog sound and can be manipulated very easily with the Brass controls. The strings sound best in my opinion mixed into the chorus effect.
This was one of the first stereo output keyboards and you can mix the Strings, Organ, and Brass in varying amounts across the L and R stereo channels. I never ran it that way in my rig though.” Link

It is fully operational, with the exception that the string section can sometimes be a bit lower in volume from the brass and organ sections. Also, the freq and res are a little scratchy sometimes. These are very easily reparable by any synth tech. It was never a problem for me while using it. Probably could use a nice cleaning on the inside. All in all, it’s a great sounding polyphonic synth and an excellent addition to any vintage synth collection! ” Link

The keyboard is in good condition but does have some scratches as you can see in the pictures. The on/off switch for the Stings section (in the Stereo Output Mixer area) is broke but you can easily use the volume knob to control. Lastly, there is some trouble getting the high C to trigger. I had brought it in for service but they were not able to resolve. I have to believe there is a service center more familiar with Moogs that could fix this. Other than that, they keyboard plays well and is a great addition to any collection. Power cord and original Owner’s Manual are also included. ” Link

“For your consideration is my Moog Opus 3. You will have a hard time finding a nicer example.

Functional condition: It was just serviced and works perfectly. All the black goo has been removed (this is a ubiquitous problem for Moog’s of this era) and any compromised components cleaned or replaced. All sliders were disassembled cleaned and lubed. Keybed is nice and level with even action. Glitch-y mono output jack was replaced.

Cosmetic condition: As can be seen in the pictures this is a very clean example. All correct color slider caps and knobs are present. The wood was stripped and refinished with walnut stain and 4 coats of satin finish urethane -only a few very small imperfections were too deep to sand out. The panel markings are nearly perfect with very little sign of wear from use. The keys are all bright white with no chips or repairs. The back of the panel where the output jacks are is slightly warped making me think it was dropped on the jack at some point which would explain the need to replace it as well. I was unable to get a good picture of this fault as it is so minor. I would call this a 9.5 out of 10. Due to the age of this item it is sold as-is.” Link

“This is a Moog Opus 3. Cosmetically it is in really good shape with just a few dings in the wood side panels. The keys are all perfect.
The brass section works great as does the organ. The VCF works well and the strings and brass mix with the organ as they’re supposed to.
The instrument is very stable and stays in tune once it warms up, just like most Moogs of this era.
The modulation section and chorus are not working and the sliders on the string section are in bad shape. I cleaned them and played with them enough to get the strings to work, but it was a challenge.
Some of the other sliders are a bit temperamental, but they work with a little effort.
This is an excellent synthesizer to have restored as most of the functions are working and it appears that replacing the sliders will make this fully functional again.
You could just use is as an organ and brass synth as it sounds great with everything mixed into the organ.
I played this instrument as it is for years and I have another one that’s fully functional. I am selling a couple of my old keyboards to make way for some new stuff.
Please don’t hesitate to ask questions. I will reply as promptly as I can.” Link

It has stereo and mono outputs. Sounds include strings, organ, and brass that can be individually mixed into a chorus, modulator, and voltage control filter. The keyboard has all the original knobs, sliders, and switches. Some of the sliders make static but only when moved. This can be fixed with a little cleaning. Also, there are only a couple minor cosmetic issues but overall it is in beautiful shape for an instrument thirty years old. Comes with power cable.” Link

The String and Brass section have dedicated highpass, lowpass, and bandpass filter to provide more variation when integrating the sounds. This was also one of the first synthesizers to feature stereo outputs for panning possibilities.
Very lush full textures you would expect from a classic Moog design. Produced in 1980.

This item has very minimal cosmetic damage and has been restored to full working order. Most notably is a cigarette burn in the middle of key A2. This is detailed in the photos. The wood sides have been painted black.” Link

“The condition of the synth is pretty good (I’ve taken a decent amount of images so you can draw your own conclusions) regarding the cosmetic condition of the unit. Only one slider head is missing, which is pretty rare among Moogs of this age (produced around 1980 so about 30 years old).

I’ve owned this for around 10 years (in which time it’s only been used indoors and with great care) but it’s been sat in storage for the past 2 years wrapped in bubble wrap and cotton cloth inside a storage box so I can’t imagine any deterioration has taken place. It’s fairly heartbreaking for me to sell this on but having downsized recently I can’t really imagine having the space or setting to use this with any real frequency any time soon.

This was imported from the US and accordingly you’ll have to pick up a voltage convertor before using it in a UK socket (if you”d prefer to rewire/convert the insides there are plenty of guides online explaining how to do so). The voltage convertors are cheap – under £10 for a low-quality one, under £20 for a good one so it’s not a significant expense in the grand scheme of things.

Frustratingly at the moment I possess neither the voltage convertor or a suitable amp to test this before sale but I can assure any potential bidder that this was in perfect working order before going into storage. However, I’m not willing to guarantee the operation of the unit given it’s been unused for 2 years so I’m technically selling this as for ‘spares or repair” and given the amount of hassle/expense involved in packing/posting I wont accept returns.” Link

It’s a nice little synth and is fairly straight forward. Has been tested for power and basic function with no obvious problems noted…Except that it’s missing the tone knob cover and there is some dust under the keys. The wood has a black tar-like substance on it…I’d sand and refinish it and it’ll look amazing. The wood is loose on the front right, but doesn’t affect function or appearance. Guaranteed not DOA: bid with confidence!

“This marvellous Opus 3 is now rapidly becoming a collector’s item. It is one of less than a hand full of poly synths which are affordable as most poly synths are well over a four figure some these days. As any Moog synth becomes rarer as time goes by, the only way is up for this synth.

In terms of its condition, we are stating very clearly that this synth works perfectly and has been serviced and cared for by a highly reputable service tech guy in England. What we also want to do in total fairness is be clear about its cosmetic condition. The great news to start with is that the wood ends have been fully restored and look and feel totally incredible. They may, when you get the synth look fractionally different to those in the photos as they have been restored since the photos were taken but that can only be a good thing and I want to play this one up, the wood ends are absolutely fabulous now. Now for the not so good bit. I want to say this with complete transparency and utter clarity so that there are no time wasters out there trying to catch us out. The front panel where the controls for the synthesis are found is not good. Its cosmetic condition is just about fair and it does have scratches. We believe that the ‘buy it now’ price reflects this scratching to the main panel as most opus 3 synths in the last 6 months worldwide have been selling at around £560 to £580. So just run that one again in case you glance over this and don’t read it properly, the panel where the controls for filters and envelops and so on are found, i.e. the part above the actual playable keyboard is quite scratched. The playable white and black keys themselves are average. I think this entire description is very fair and is a true representation of this synth.” Link

It includes a stand and a custom made case for storing and transporting. I powered this instrument up and it is in working condition. Cosmetically, it is also good. There are no dings, chips or dents. The varnish is peeling away and there are some surface scuffs on the control board. There is also some dust trapped under the keyboard area. The stand is in fair condition. One leg is missing the adjusting knob and another is missing a rubber stopper. It folds up and is completely functional. The case is very nice and was custom made for this. The inside has foam, and this is wearing from age and has a slight “old” oder on the inside. There is minor scuffs on the outside of the case. ” Link

Not working….
However, I can tell you this…..A while back I plugged this in for a while to grab some samples, in working order. I went back a week later to do the same, and it wasn’t working….There’s no rhyme or reason to it’s demise, but leads me to believe that perhaps it can still be salvaged ! No electrical sparks or smells, just plugged it in, and no power.
As you can see from the pics, it’s a bit rough. The right wood panel is missing ((lost in a move some years ago)), and the Organ/Bass VCF switch on the output mixer is broken…..Also, the low C key is broken, and there’s residue on the back MOOG graphic, which could clean up fairly easily.
Bring this back to life, or use it to bring another back.” Link

It been in my studio for years and now I have decided to try something new, so selling it.

It’s in great condition, a few knocks here and there which I will detail but essentially I consider it ‘Used’. I am sure it’s been gigged in it’s lifetime but not by me.

All keys are good, no broken keys and the action is as even as it ever was. The end cheeks are good no big knocks or scrapes. The wooden facia underneath the keyboard is scratched and chipped. The bottom is as new really, all feet are present and it sits level on a table, so not warped.

The front panel is in very nice condition showing little sign of wear, all knobs and switches are present and original, no peeling sticker or transfers on this one. There is on switch missing, was missing when I got it, it’s the ‘Final Decay’ switch (pictured missing).

The panel above the keyboard, where is says Moog Opus 3 is scratched on the left hand end (pictured).

Sound quality is as it should be.

This is a used Moog, not a Moog that has been refurbished or serviced at all, a genuine keyboard.” Link

There is a loud hum while it is plugged in. Probably needs a cleaning and a check up to see if the ground is ok.

Outside wood is in good condition. Bottom has scratches.

There is tape residue in a couple of places.. ” Link

Unlike its brethren, the Moog Prodigy and Rogue models, this synth is polyphonic. The interior has been cleaned and the black foam that turns into black goo has been removed. All the switches and sliders have been cleaned and lubricated. It’s missing one slider cap (resonance of the String section). A couple sliders rub a little (not surprising for a 30-year-old synth), but they all function properly. All sections, controls, and keys operate normally. The synth is in very good condition, it’s only the wood ends that have taken some abuse (before I bought it). There are a couple chips out of the right side, which you can see in the photos. Included are copies of the Opus 3 Owner’s Manual, and the Technical Service Manual. The power cord as well.” Link

If you don’t know exactly what this is, do look it up.
There is plenty of info on the net.

This is in such silly great condition, I just can’t keep it.

I have gone through over looking for issues.
These are the ONLY things that are not %100…
a) the 1′ slider on the organ section is a little touchy/scratchy
b) the emph slider on the VCF is a little scratchy
c) the wooden dressing bar (on the front under the keys has a slight wobble/looseness on the right side
d) there are a few nicks on the left end cheek (see pic)

Other than those minor things, this is killer.

ALL KNOBS are original and present.
All the original paperwork (including schematics) are here.

I have NOT taken this apart or delved into the inside.
You will be able to see that all screws are untouched.” Link

Unlike most Opus 3′s on the market, this one has had the nasty degraded foam professionally removed from the control board, it has 100% new control board switches and every slider has been replaced except for one. The pots and the single remaining original slider have been cleaned as well. Everything works as it should right down to the nice Moog filter and noisy chorus. Cosmetically the sides are pretty worn and there’s some small lacquer drops on the unit which I’ve seen before but overall a clean machine. Check out Synthwood.com if you want to replace the wood, otherwise it has a nice, road-worn look and a nice front panel.” Link

For further details about the opus-3 the internet is not too far away. Please note ,the moog is COLLECTION ONLY from Synthrestore in Bedford, full contact details will be given to the buyer.I prefer bank transfer or cheque as payment, however keeping in ebay rules paypal is fine .All sensible offers will recieve a swift reply and i can understand you will have to travel , and i have taken this into account.Any questions please ask. The moog is in good condition with obvious wear to be expected here and there, all sliders move fine and all sliders have their correct colour as to the function. There are no modifications on the Opus -3, The user manual is a good fresh copy, spiral bound showing basic operation with soundcharts at the back.In the 2nd picture on the listing the rear photo the user manual can be seen top right of the synth next to a Roland sh101 gig bag.” Link
