” Pictures are of the actual items in this auction. The item in this auction is in outstanding condition for its age and comes with the original case and documents, schematics. It’s an original Mark 1 unit. The only change made was to have an input to the filter section added. It needs some cleaning as some of the sliders are a bit sticky, but it’s fully operational. ” Link

“you are bidding on a vintage Arp Odyssey 2800 synthesizer seen in pics. this is the last arp that I am going to be selling. i bought it awhile back with plans on having it sent out to be completely restored. i never got around to it. i can’t see any reason to let this sit here for a few more years. in addition, i have two other odysseys – one model with the ‘illegal’ moog filter and a later MKIII version – hence the sale. this was the transitional model from the with the rotary pitch bend knob.

the unit is in decent physical shape. there are some marks along the edges of the metal and the schematics are slightly fading in some areas. the keys are in good shape. you can see by the pics, it’s certainly presentable, but not mint by any stretch.

the unit does play and produces sound. however, it is VERY unstable. at some points, it functions rather well and i can run down all of the keys. many times, it will take off and not play the notes correctly. it’s almost as if the portomento or the release on the adsr is stuck. other times it sounds like all i am trying to do is generate noise. i never had a tech look at it, so i don’t know the extent of the issue. a few of the sliders are missing the colored tips. some slide real well. others are a little sticky. a few are very sticky. from what i see, most seem to function. it’s hard to tell exactly because of the instability to hold a sound and manipulate it with the sliders to test.

just bid knowing this will need some work and bid accordingly. do not expect a flawlessly functioning, perfect looking unit and there won’t be an issue. ” Link

“FOR SALE:

ARP Odyssey MK II 2813 “Black and Gold” Synthesizer.

PLEASE NOTE: 100-130 Volt Power (original USA Plug).

This Odyssey is in AMAZING (almost flawless) cosmetic condition and very good functioning order. It has never left my smoke free studio.

This version of the Odyssey has the Pitch Bend knob and Trigger, Gate and CV in and outs.

It’s recently had a basic service and a clean by a tech but as with all vintage synths from this era a complete calibration is recommended to get this unit back to perfect playing order.

I don’t know a lot about the ins and outs of this complex synth and to be honest I’ve only played with it a handful of times since buying it a few years ago. It sounds awesome but I found it way too complicated to use on a regular basis, so I can’t justify keeping it as it has become just a great looking piece of studio furniture that simply doesn’t get switched on enough.

As far as I can tell and according to the technician I had it looked at by, all of the sliders are clean sounding and function perfectly and most are smooth moving (only a couple have a slight stiffness to them). All the keys are triggering perfectly but there are tuning quirks on certain intervals when played duophonically.

I am selling this synth ‘as is’. ” Link

“This classic pre ‘75 two oscillator analog synthesiser is externally in good condition and comes complete with rare inclusions from the original purchase.

A technician has recently given the synth a basic service, cleaning all pots and switches but a complete calibration by an experienced synth tech familiar with the ARP is required to bring this unit back to perfect working order.

Electronically, even after a good clean and lubrication, several of the slider pots are functional but still a bit scratchy (probably due to the extended storage) and need some additional maintenance. If required t

This ARP has never been “on the road” so cosmetically it has only a few small marks/scratches and some wear on the facia from normal use. I’ve included close-up photos of the top panel showing the worst flaws.

The gold paint in some areas is a bit dull from use. This ARP has had only one owner and has never had any rough treatment so there are no major dings, but there is a small, shallow dent on the back panel above the logo (visible in the rear panel photo) which was probably caused by the power plug. Overall it presents very clean for it’s age and use.

Please check out the detailed photos to get a sense of the external condition yourself before bidding.

Included in this sale with the ARP Odyssey MKI synthesiser:

* ARP Odyssey Guide
* ARP Odyssey Model 2800 Service Manual
* Front Panel Facsimile
* “Perform on the Arp Odyssey Synthesiser” by Roger Powell
* Patch overlays
* Padded carry bag

Please note, as already mentioned, this synth requires a service by competent technician before it could be considered to be in optimal playing condition. In this regard it is sold on an “as is” basis.” Link

“For sale is a vintage Arp Odyssey MkI rare white face version analog synthesizer. It is in excellent condition, fully functional. The keys are level and trigger nicely. The sliders are mostly smooth, some are still a little stiff but all are readily usable, they certainly aren’t impossible to move like some old Arp Odysseys are. Missing a few slider caps. It sounds incredible, lovely Arp tone.” Link

“Arp Odyssey in great physical condition. It is a black and gold Mk I as far as I can deduce with CV/ Gate in and out and audio input. Looks incredible for its age. Could stand an internal cleaning and calibration, though. Seems to keep in tune, but has some scratchy sliders. Upon thoroughly checking it over I found that its biggest issue was that the LFO sine wave would not modulate VCO 1 (square wave worked fine). All other mod sources/ destinations seem to be fine. Sounds Mean As Balls. ” Link

“This Odyssey is fresh from SynthGuru Kevin Lightner. Someone had modded it before and added some jacks to the rear to give it some modular capabiliies, but it has been restored to spec, and sounds incredible. I have the Oddity virtual synth, and while it sounds good, this thing blows it away through the PA. Believe me when I say, nothing beats analog! That is a fact. Anyone who tells you otherwise, has never heard real analog. It is time for me to move on to other things, so I am selling my vintage synth collection. Keep watching for some more cool goodies, coming very soon! When is that last time you have seen someone rock out on stage with one of these bad boys? Probably, Gary Numan. Why settle for a Phatty or Nord Lead, when you can have REAL old school analog for about the same price, and you can not go wrong, this has been restored. This is some kick booty analog goodness, I just ripped some bass on this about 10 minutes before I listed it. You can even ad MIDI to it, if you want to.” Link

please note: this unit will need some work. it powers on as seen in the last pic but will not produce sound. it could be something simple or something complex, i do not know. it has never been to a tech to test or diagnose. several of the slider tips are broken and will need replaced. the kybd gate switch under the adsr is missing as seen in pic. the unit has some scratches and general wear but is in pretty nice physical shape as seen. i am selling it ‘as is’ and as seen with no returns. bid as a restoration project. ” Link

“Up for auction is an ARP Odyssey MKIII. As you can see, it’s in great condition cosmetically, except for one minor flaw described below. I bought this used back in 1987 and since that time it’s been kept in my project studio and has never been on the road. Having said that, there are a few things potential buyers should know before bidding on this item. First, I just recently removed all the original slider caps in order to replace them with a new set. I have yet to put these new caps on; however, I’m including these brand new caps (34 in all, and corresponding to the original color schemes found on all Odysseys) in the current auction. These will be shipped in a small bubble mailer alond with the ARP itself. To put them on you’ll require a good pair of needle nose pliers, a few hours and a little patience. Secondly, the C4 key sticks when pressed down, but the key sounds the note perfectly. Thirdly, some of the sliders (perhaps about a third of them altogether) move roughly, though none are “scratchy; the sound outputhowever, is not affected at all. Lastly, the right leather side panel is slightly bent inward–this is virtually the only cosmetic imperfection on the synth itself. This model has the XLR out and CV ins/outs.” Link

“For sale is a vintage Arp Odyssey MkII rare black and gold version analog synthesizer. It is in excellent condition, fully functional, recently serviced by a professional tech. The keys are mostly level and trigger nicely, though in duophonic occasionally the notes will hover inbetween the two which I believe is due to the build type of the original keyboards. The sliders were lubed up and move well enough. Some are still a little stiff but all are readily usable, they certainly aren’t impossible to move like some old Arp Odysseys are. Even has a quirky but cool matching colored gold keys. One slider cap is missing. It sounds incredible, lovely Arp tone. See pictures below. Don’t miss out !” Link

“RP Odyssey with expression pedal and portamento foot switch. I bought this new in 1974.

Modified/upgraded with standard CV/gate/trig 1/8″ ins and outs. Later Odyssey’s had this as standard. Connects to other ARP gear with same. Also connects to external MIDI box (not included) for control from any MIDI keyboard.

Also modified to accept preamp’d audio input for processing by filter and ring modulator. Filter can sweep audio input via LFO, pedal, sample/hold.

Switch the toggle (near the pitch bend knob) from “VCF” to “RM” and the ring modulator compares the pitch of VCO2 to audio input and produces a third tone. VCO 2 pitch can be swept same as the filter for modulation FX. Great for those clangorous guitar tones ala Jeff Beck.

Mods were done in the 70’s by John Viera of (then) WAVES, in San Francisco.

XLR output added, no direct box required!

All parts functional, but needs some real TLC. Sliders and switches are noisy, keyboard action sloppy (see photo). VCOs could use calibration. Cosmetically OK, better than many other 35 year olds I know.” Link

You are bidding on: my beautifully well preserved (in great working condition–everything works) Arp Odyssey 3 collectors item. This was manufactured in 1976 or 77 (as far as I remember) and is definitely museum grade. It looks almost new. If you need a different payment method, please contact me first.
Odyssey Mk III (Model 2820)

* The Mk III featured the new 4075 filter design. The rest of its specifications are virtually identical to the Odyssey II except that the overall look and quality are further updated to match the look of the latest ARP synths with the orange and black “Halloween” color scheme. It also used a unique ARP pitch-bender design called the PPC (Proportional Pitch Control), where three pressure-sensitive buttons are used to control bend up, down, and vibrato; older Odysseys used a simple knob for pitch bending.
* Mk III Odysseys have XLR outputs, in addition to unbalanced 1/4″ outputs.

I am selling it, because I have to. That’s that!” Link

is in pretty good shape. It has had the following modifications that are all working fine:
* CV and Gate IN
* CMS Blue Meanie Filter ( moog filter )
* high level output switched to 1/4 jack

It has the following imperfections:
While ALL SLIDERS WORK, 3 of them have the tips broken off:
* keyboard CV
* sustain
* freq cutoff
( They move and work fine with at the tips of your fingers )
* the 3 position octave switch is physically broken
* one key ( the low D ) is intermittent
( when using as a CV slave, these 2 things are not relevant )

Please ask me anything you like before you bid. I’ve had this piece since 1983 and would be happy to relate my experiences with it.
Perhaps you’ve even heard it on some 90s techno records, I’ll tell you if you’re interested.

This item is in excellent condition as it has barely been played since purchase in the early 1970s and has been sitting in the bedroom ever since. I now need to sell due to retirement. Everything seems to be in good working order and I have it fixed up to my amplifier and all the sliders seem to be working although a couple are slightly “scratchy” which is probably due to lack of recent use. “L’ARP Odyssey est un synthé analogique mythique, conçu pour concurrencer le Moog Minimoog qui était probablement le meilleur synthétiseur analogique sur le marché.
Celui-ci est en état moyen: -Quelques bouchons manquent sur les potars (mais on peut tout de même les utiliser)
-Une révision et un recalibrage des oscillateurs sont nécessaires afin de pouvoir profiter de toutes les fonctions de ce synthé.

Duophonic!
Modded with CV in/outputs, by an expert in NY, whose name I forget, for a patchable ‘Poor Man’s 2600′!!!

2 Oscillators-syncable, 1 sub-sonic. FM and PWM modulation on both.
Low-pass resonant filter

This is a real fun piece to collect and the rarest and best sounding odyssey, I love the 12db filter a lot it’s super nasty. Unit is fully working and will arrive working to your door, but sold as-is no returns.” Link

odyssey “This Odyssey is quite beautiful! and has seen little use over the time we have had it, having been stored in the loft for the last 18 years. 5 of the slider caps are missing, but does not in any way affect the performance of the synthesiser. The PPC buttons are as white as new, I’ve seen on other Odysseys these go yellow but my Odyssey looks new as does the control panel. This Odyssey has been recently serviced by synth centre in Acton London, full recepit will be given of the servicing after auction. It looks and sounds amazing! I have recently purchased a brand new flight case for the ARP. I hope the Odyssey goes to a good home where it will be keept safely and looked after, sad to see it go but I am now a parent :/ Buyer can collect in person and pay cash. I don’t really like the idea of shipping but will offer it with insurance.” Link

2800 “Once again school has me strapped for cash, so my loss is your gain. This is a blackface ARP Odyssey 2800 synthesizer, with the SEM style filter. Picked it up from a fellow VSE member a few years ago, after which I installed brand new sliders and key bushings. 100% functional, it plays and sounds fantastic. It doesn’t have slider caps or rubber feet, so if you’re a purest you can pick some up from synthrestore.com; I never cared for them. Sold as-is due to age of course; guaranteed to not be dead on arrival and will ship insured. All of the old sliders and caps are included as well.” Link

1 “Professionally restored to full glory with several non-invasive modifications in spectacular condition!

This Odyssey MkII is like taking a time machine back to 1975– if you’ve been waiting for a super clean, near museum quality restored player that has been well-cared for and ready for modern use in the 21st century, this is your ARP!

This synthesizer is simply gorgeous with just a few minor scratches here and there and just a few blemishes if you look close. The sliders are smooth and all work great with just one or two minor scratchy spots, the legends are all crisp and clear showing near zero signs of wear, everything is clean, clean, clean and beautiful– it’s a truly a one-of-a-kind gem.

The restoration work was performed over the course of 6 months in 2008 by the world famous Kevin Lightner, aka synthfool in California, an expert technician and the preeminent synth restoration master to the stars. The filter board and power supply have been recapped, new old stock transistors have been installed on the envelopes, the synth is tuned and calibrated, sliders lubed and/or rebuilt, new old stock screws and rubber feet, as well as even NOS slider tips as well! The key contacts work perfectly, it triggers beautifully, works great over CV, and the synth truly plays like a dream!

As for the modifications, the 4075 filter has had the frequency extension mod that corrects the infamous 12khz frequency limit fault from the factory and the result is a sound that’s absolutely amazing, able to sound both vintage or modern. Also, there is a 3-way switch that extends the available ADSR times to double speed, normal, or half speed for both extra long times and snappy, snappy short times. Other useful mods include the top toggle switch which applies the LFO modulation slider on VCO1 to both VCO’s simultaneously, acting as a defacto ‘mod wheel’ for adding vibrato to both oscillators under a single control, a feature unavailable on a stock Odyssey and indispensable to playing classic leads. Add to this, the second toggle switch turns the keyboard into a ‘monophonic’ low-note priority response just like the Moog Minimoog for playing classic synth basslines, etc. as opposed to the characteristic but limiting ARP duophonic sound. All of the mods are extremely useful for the widest variety of performance styles, and they have been safely implemented without any drilling of the case, making them easily reversible because the original CV inputs are still internally connected and safely tucked away inside the synth.

A tremedous amount of time, effort, and money have been invested to make this the ultimate ARP Odyssey 2813 and it is most likely the best overall example you will ever find!

To provide a bit of context, a stock Odyssey 2813 in the UK recently sold for nearly $1900US and it had sat mostly unused for 10 years which is not a good thing to be sure, as the vast amount of electronics in these machines need to be exercised regularly or they will fail! My 2813 is sure to be the crown jewel of your electronic music studio as it has been for mine, and your friends will be so very envious, too, just like mine have been! :)

I have personally owned five ARP Odysseys over the years, everything from a fully restored 2800 to an orange face Mk3, and this one truly beats them all hands down. I had fully intended to keep this particular 2813 forever and have invested in it accordingly, but regrettably, circumstances dictate that I offer it up for sale to one lucky new owner to enjoy both it’s sonic power and physical beauty as I have for all this time. You will be hard pressed to find a finer ARP Odyssey on eBay or elsewhere any time soon!

I always try to take the highest quality photographs possible and disclose any/all known issues with the gear that I sell so that you the buyer will know exactly what you’re purchasing and be satisfied in the end. Rest assured I’ve sold many vintage synths to many happy buyers over the years, and please feel free to check out some my feedback comments for further assurance.

The ARP Odyssey 2813 serial #1015 is sold in the condition described as-is, and will be expertly packed for shipping anywhere in the world.” Link

oddy “This is a working unit, one of only 3000 made. It is a mdl 2800 (very early) and comes with the case. The foam in the case needs replacing. Otherwise a very good unit. Some of the faders can be a bit rough but have been cleaned and work. A few “knobs” are missing off the faders as you can see in the picture. No reserve. No returns.” Link

odyssey “For your consideration and with great regret I offer my original Arp Odyssey II blackface synth. I purchased this on 11.28.79 from Coliseum Sound in Raleigh NC and I am the second owner.

It is in outstanding physical and electronic all-original condition.

All switches, knobs, and sliders work. Most of the sliders move easily..a couple are a little ‘sticky’.

Original knob for pitch control is off in a couple of pics but is included

I have had it hooked up to an amp for a few hours with no pitch drifting.

All of the keys are intact and play fine…as you can see from pics a couple are uneven

I am also including the original ARP case…it’s kind of beat up, and has stickers and a hand-painted Arp logo..but it has been recently re-foamed and will protect your expensive vintage synth!

You also get a custom made padded dust cover , and a bunch of hard-to-find original documents: Odyssey Owners Manual , Odyssey Patch Book , a handful of blank patch sheets, warranty card, list of authorized Arp Service Centers dated April 12, 1976. all of these docs came with the Odyssey and are NOT photocopies.!” Link

odyssey “here we have my vintage arp synth. these are becoming harder to find and this one is in very good used condition. it all seems to work as it should. played with it today and got some great dr who type sounds from it! there is plenty of info on the net about these synth’s.
i would prefer collection on this as i would hate it to be damaged in transit, although i will post at the buyers expense.” Link
