“I bought this OB-12 used several years ago. It had a broken key and two missing buttons, but the operating system and audio were fine. Shortly after purchasing it I had the synth serviced to fix these issues. The only cosmetic issue now is that the new key is a slightly brighter white than the old ones (see pictures). This is barely noticeable from a distance and the synth looks and sounds great otherwise.

It appears the backlight for the LCD display screen is out, the screen itself still works, but you have to view at the right angle with direct light to read the display. “Up for auction today is an Oberheim OB-12, a synth you don’t see much on Ebay these days. This synth is fat and it’s heavy (both sound-wise and physically). With some tweaking, you can make some really awesome sounds with this board. I just find that I don’t use it much these days anymore and need to clean out the music room. “this synthesizer is in great cosmetic condition with only two minor flaws. one is a bit of paint chipped on the left end cheek and the other is a small nick in the paint above the ribbon controller ( both blemishes are pictured below). unfortunately the main display light is burnt out (was like this when i bought it) but the display is still readable and this wont prevent you in any way from using the synth to its fullest extent. also this is something that is totally fixable it just didn’t make a whole lot of difference to me personally so i just left it the way it was. the keybed sits level (as pictured) and is fully functional as are all other buttons, sliders, and knobs. this is an excellent synth to work with as the sonic possibilities are only limited by the user. anything from digi to analouge sounds are possible with this very hands on synth. the ribbon controller is a whole lot of fun as well” Auction ended. “This OB-12 has two issues, otherwise everything is in order electronically and cosmetically. Sound quality wise, this synth is excellent and has its own character – selling because I am reducing my inventory.
First issue are the 2 keys shown in the picture. I received it this way, in fact the seller hid this condition. The 2 keys function perfectly, but are blemished with slight cracks. Otherwise, the keybed is in good condition and operating as expected.
Second issue is the amount knob on the ADSR. The OB-12 has an overall volume (or Amount) knob next to the ADSR amplifier which controls the overall volume of that section. This issue is, if you change the amount after selecting the patch, the value floats slightly. The result is not so much the amount value changing but, the display’s response to that change. The dispay changes context to the parameter you are changing, so it thinks you are changing a parameter when you are not. The result is an annoying display changing context, while you are trying to alter something else. Luckily, this has never been an issue really. If you don’t change that overall volume during playback, the problem never occurs. The value on the knob must be set to zero, or 100.” Auction ended. Click here to browse on eBay.
